We caught 19 yesterday. Found a mega school in housen but they were really hard to fire up. An Arig was the only thing they’d bite. Today was a little better but it was WET! It rained most of the day. We fished mid lake and caught about 30 and had some good ones. Biggest fish came on a 6xd and the rest were on an Arig. 15-25’ on secondary points.

The Big Bass Splash is going on this weekend so I’m staying far away. An 11 something is leading right now. The lake is fishing good, but should get better in a couple of weeks when the weather stabilizes and the post spawn bite gets hot.

Go to San Augustine and throw a frog?

The crappie fishing is as hot as ever. We are catching 50-100 everyday right now and I expect it to be that way through the month of June. Great time to go load the boat. We are fishing piles in 18-25’ with shiners suspended over the top of the pile.

We have started to see a small Shad spawn and are catching quality fish on frogs and chatterbaits around them. We are also finding post spawn fish in 18-23’ on the main lake and catching some decent fish out there on crankbaits and swimbaits. I also caught a giant off my dock before putting my boat in the water Monday lol. It was dark and I was in a hurry to pick up clients so didn’t get a weight but she was pushing DD

Hey man, I’ve been on Rayburn the last few weeks. I’ve been fishing from deer stand down to the Black Forest. It seems like the fish haven’t been in the bushes really thick. The fish I’m targeting is more in the 8-12’ range on grass lines and hard spots. Dragging a Carolina rigged creature bait and throwing a crankbait or arig is hard to beat.

No free launches in Negreet. Shadows is a much better ramp than Turtle Beach IMO though. The road to turtle beach is terrible

What part of the lake were y’all fishing?

We have been from six mile up to San Patricio. The lizard has been on a light weighted Carolina rig and the senko has been weightless. Best colors seem to be something not too flashy. Regular ol watermelon seed and green pumpkin.

We have been smashing them in the dirt in lizards, senkos, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and frogs. Now is the time to be in the lake!

Hey Jeff, Sam Rayburn is on fire right now. For Kayak fishing you will want to keep an eye on the wind forecast to decide where to launch. Monterey Park is a great protected launch with close access to the Canyons which is always a good area this time of year. You can also launch at San Augustine and have a lot of good grass nearby. The grass bite is good right now on a lipless crankbait, chatterbaits, and senko. Good luck

For sure, but once that suns comes out for a couple days they will move way up shallow to get some warmth

Water the varied between 52-54. I’m sure it will continue to fall with the cold temps we have coming.

Well, the weatherman was wrong again Friday. It was no rain in the forecast and a high of 56. It never got above 43 and sleeted on us for an hour. We called it quits before noon because my clients didn’t have their rain slickers. Ended up with 29 around Six Mile on drop shots and Arigs in 26’.

I haven’t heard, but I wouldn’t doubt it. The lake is about to be putting out some big fish! We caught 44 Friday morning mostly all on a dropshot and a blade bait. We found fish on prespawn stops, but also had some better fish still in a winter pattern in 34’ of water. Give it a couple of weeks and it’s going to bust wide open.

The fishing has been pretty tough the past week. We are spending well over half the day idling looking for fish before we even make a cast. Then once we find them, they aren’t exactly jumping in the boat. You have to work hard to get bites. The arig and spoon are still our two biggest producers. Best advice I can give right now is to stay near creeks and if your not seeing fish, go deeper. We caught the. In 50’ Saturday.

Yes I’m a humminbird guy. I’m waiting to see what mega live looks like before deciding what to do. We have livescope on all of our pontoon for crappie fishing, but I’d like to try out the mega live on my bass boat if it’s as good as thought to be.

It happens every year. The later into the winter we get, the bigger our average fish gets. I think a lot of the big females have been shad/bait oriented suspended in the creeks and river since post spawn and in January they begin to move into prespawn areas in catchable water. This time of year the big fish begin to group up. That’s why you see January and February tournaments usually take the heaviest weight of the year to win.

Our numbers went down this week, as expected as we move into the winter months, but our size increased greatly! We found a school of probably 50 fish and the majority were over 4lbs! The only problem was that there was so much timber down there and they would only hit an Arig. We caught 3 big ones, broke off 2 big ones, and got hung up about 25 times lol. We had to keep getting on top of them to untangle our baits and spooked a lot of the fish. I really think if we can fish it hard and with a little luck there is a 30lb bag sitting on it. They are on a channel swing in 22’ around tons of timber. Hopefully they stay put.

Was back on Toledo this week after being on Rayburn last week. We caught 33 and 47 Monday and Tuesday. Still fishing deep schools with Arigs, wing dings, spoons, and drop shots.

You will be fine with the 704 as well. Dobyns rods are pretty consistent no matter the length.
