  1. Cold was the last thing on my mind lol. It was about 10:30 so the sun was shining and water was high 70's so it wasn't bad. The worse part was watching he fish swim away, knowing along with her went $3-4K The gen3's are faster and clearer. They also are touch screen and have buttons, where as the gen2's just have touch screen. They are both great units. If the onixs are out of your price range, atleast give the Humminbird helix a look. They are very affordable, are great units, and support a lakemaster chip, which to me is a big advantage.
  2. The new lowrance scare awesome, but may want to consider Humminbird just for lakemaster chip. The lakemaster chip will not work in a lowrance and IMO it's the best chip for the south end of the lake. I've got 2 Onix 10's and I love them!
  3. Fished Champs yesterday. Wasn't our day for sure! Started out with a boat cutting in front of me and when I let off the gas, the nose fell and caught and grew me a complete 180. Scared my dad pretty good lol. Got to my first spot and hooked up with one over 5 on my 5th cast and she threw it. Caught a 5 and a 4 and about 50 1-2lbers. Then my dad hooked up with a good one. Got her inches away from the net and the hook just popped out. I dove in the water after her. Didn't get her of course. She was easily over 7, might have been closer to 8. Should have had 24-26lbs, but instead finished up with 15. Caught 60 or so fish and had fun, but was frustrating to say the least. My dad said it took a month to sink in that we won the first one on Rayburn, but only took a second to sink in that we lost this one as we watched that big one swim away.Congrats to Will Walker and Stephen Mitchell. Good guys and a heck of a sack. Sucks to catch 30lbs and come in second. Congrats to the winners also
  4. Well guys, I'm just now recovering from a long weekend of fishing. Went up to Toeldo Thursday at noon to prefish for the best 6. By 3:30 I had 12 fish for 52lbs. 8.07 was my biggest. Caught her on a Carolina rig brush hog. Friday, we caught about 75 fish, no nothing over 3lbs. Saturday the tournament begun and we caught a 5.5 and a 5 and a bunch of 2-3lb fish. Probably caught close to 100 fish total and our 12 we weighed went 37lbs which put us in 6th going into Sunday. Sunday we caught 75 fish or so, but no big bites. Only weighed in 28lbs and finished up in 10th place. Got a check to cover the weekend and had a good time, but big bites were few and far between his weekend for me. I caught one 6lb fish on a crankbait Thursday and never got another bite on it the rest of the trip.
  5. There are many good option in the $150 range. My advice to you would be to buy the best rod you can afford. When I was younger, I bought a lot of $60-100 rods and since then I have replaced them all with better rods. Go ahead and get one quality rod rather than 2 or 3 budget rods. Then save up and buy another quality rod later on down the road. Take good care of them and they will last you forever. For $150 I would look hard at a Poweel Max 3D or an Irod Genesis II. You can buy the Powell for $100 right now at sheltonsclothing.com. As for the Irod, look at e 7'4" H rod. It is sweet!
  6. I throw a 10xd ALOT! I use a Dobyns 806cb, but for the money, the Irod Fred's Crank Launcher is hard to bear. It's rated for 1.5oz but will handle a 10xd just fine. Also, the Irod Bama Rig Special would work great. I have the Bama Rig Special and it's a very versitale stick. I've thrown Bama rigs, 10xds, and big flitter spoons on them and it was perfect. Won't find a better rod for $150
  7. Sure. I caught my fish from 18-30 ft on the end of flats and ridges. I had 20 different baits tied on and just rotated through them to get the school fired up.
  8. I fished yesterday from daylight until 3. Ended up winning my club tournament with 20.51lbs. Caught tons of fish and had a blast. My biggest was 6.89lbs.
  9. Finally got back on Toledo today. Found big groups of fish, but couldn't get them to fire up again. We ended up catching 60 fish but nothing over 3lbs. Couldn't make them eat anything moving, had to drag something through them and even then they wouldn't eat it right. Hey would slam it hard and then drop it. Hey would fire up for about 5 minutes and we would catch 15 or so real quick then have to leave to find a new school. Overall, a fun day, but no size and frustrating being on literally hundreds of fish and not being able to make them bite.
  10. I'm catching them on both secondary stuff and main lake stuff. Just go out and fish the deep stuff you like, there will probably be fish there.
  11. Both 6lbers had spawned out. I'm not sure why I was breaking off. I guess I got a bad spool of line. I was using 20lb floro for my mainline and 16lb for my leader. I know for sure 3 of my break offs were on big fish, but the others just broke on the hook set. One fish turned, pulled drag, and broke me. Sure wish I could have seen her!
  12. I caught fish from 12-25
  13. Fished from 10-7 today. Caught a little over 50 fish. Had 22lbs. Two fish over 6 and broke off 7 fish over the course of the day. Never broke off that many fish in my life. Found tons and tons of fish, but just couldn't make them bite.
  14. You should have been down here with me Friday. I boated over 100 fish and had 20+ over 4lbs.
  15. I was fishing a ridge with a lot of brush on it in 25ft. They were eating the Arig pretty good, but I hung it up a lot. Ended up breaking off 5 of em and 4 10xds all in the same stretch of brushpiles. As for the rod, reel, and line, the reel just started making a bad sound and then I cast, backlashed terribly (ruining the tatsu), and it wouldn't even reel in anymore. It was a Abu revo stx. I then put another reel on the rod (Powell endurance 775) and the top 6" broke off of it. Not a good day, besides the fact I caught 23lbs off those piles.
  16. I figured I lost $120 in Bama rigs, $60 in 10xds, $200 on the reel, $160 on the rod, and $45 on line. That's $585...just another day in paradise?
  17. I've lost 5 Alabama rigs, 4 10xds, broke a rod and broke a reel in the same day. Not to mention the ruined 25lb tatsu
  18. Water was still too dirty to sight fish. I literally caught fish on everything I threw. Don't think you got to do the same thing as everyone else to catch them
  19. Sure wish I could have fished up there today too!! Had a good time eating with everyone last night and glad I got to meet y'all this year. I ended up catching over 100 bass yesterday. My big one weighed 7.4 and I had over 20 fish that were 4+lbs. Also had one about 11lbs throw a crankbait 10 ft from me. The lake is on fire!!
  20. Caught well over 100 fish yesterday. Had 20+ over 4lbs and my big one was 7.4. Had one I figured was 11+ come off about 10 ft from the boat. Still sick over it!
  21. I fished the mounds from 10-3 today. Got 8 bites and nothing big. 4 flipping and 4 on a trap. The wind was brutal. I planned on running to mill, but couldn't even round the mainland point at the mounds. I think we could have thrown a trap in the very back of creeks and catch a few more, but we were looking for a DD!
  22. I'm fishing for a few hours tomorrow. Gotta bring my old Puma to Toledo fiberglass to get the gorilla hull tweaked for the buyer. So if you see a black/white/red puma with 1 pole come by and say hi. I'll be somewhere between the mounds and buck.
  23. I've fished them a few times. I haven't heard, but I'd guess they are both closed right now due to high water.
  24. Awesome job! I'm going to be on lake Monticella in the morning to shoot the Basschamps tv show, but plan on fishing Toledo Saturday on my way back home.
  25. Who is going to the get together and when is it? I will try and make it for a day or so if I can.
