  1. I think I better sign off, I keep coming off like a jerk tonight. Sorry to all.
  2. John_Cullem- I've never "skimped" on anything I purchase but what I look for is "value". Bang for the buck. I have a boston whaler because you cannot sink it. It costs twice as much as any other 15 ft boat but the quality and craftsmanship are a great value to me because I won't be spending money down the road to repair badly executed workmanship. Now If there was another boatmaker that gaurenteed these facts as strongly as whaler and had a cust service support base like whaler, I would certainly buy it instead. Yamamoto does not offer a $4 advantage to me over another bait. Granted, some knock-offs suk, too stiff, etc but the one I use is YUm's dinger and I outfish or at least hold my own when up against a yamamoto freak like my main partner is. This is a fact. I outfished him 20 to 11 this morning w/ dingers. If it were the other way around, on a consistent basis, I would probably spend the money for them, no doubt. It's not a money thing, it's a value thing. I'm not saying he doesnt beat me using GY's now and again, but theres certainly no major trend there. Either way for that matter. Not cheap, never was, just an educated consumer looking for the most value for my dollar
  3. Sorry, really didn't mean that to sound snotty. Not my intention, it's getting a bit comical though how dedicated some people can be. The name brand is like a crutch or a life vest for some anglers, I swear. IN SHORT Whatever you use, I hope you have success and by success I mean, no matter how much you paid for whatever you are using, use it well, use it often and wear a big smile.
  4. Dude, $20/ bag, god bless ya! I outfished my partner this morning, 20 to 11. I used dingers. Know what he used? Let's just say,...too much money is what he used. See ya at the scales ;D
  5. Like dustin,I've caught cats on them but for bassin', I just use them as dinner. ;D
  6. Lakeman- Pike covered in "other species"
  7. I usually just let the 6lbrs pull my boat!! ;D
  8. I'm the same as RR. 4a-8 or 9 then back out by 5ish till 10-11 Sat and sun and any day I can get off in between (which has been alot lately!)
  9. Dustin- this is your 4th reply in this post. :-/ Not slamming you but it's a bit hypocritical that the main person saying to drop this post is the same person re-newing it. You've made your point, but everyone here has an opinion and they are entitled to it.
  10. Fireand ice- your friend is in the 420 club and doesnt even know it.
  11. Raul, If I ever saw anyone drop a tire in this place,....it wouldn't be pretty. This is a gin clear reservoir. Used as secondary water supply for an entire state.
  12. Some good ideas flyrod, thanks. The xmas tree thing is out because I don't live on this lake, actually about 40 mins away. However, they just did some clearing on a lot where they built a house this year. Tons of cut branches shoreside right now. I'm actually thinking of finding 3 or 4 cinderblocks and buying a clothesline and doing somthing today while the materials are there. I'm sure if I ask the owners, they won't object to me taking some of the branches. The place I want to drop them is also close to this lot. I like the pvc tree idea. Nottoo expensive and tough to get hung up on. Thanks again.
  13. Anyone have any input on building brushpiles? I was thinking my best bet would be to tie up a bunch of cut branches and tie them tight to a cinderblock. Also thinking the best way to launch them would be to drag them onto the ice this winter and wait for it to melt. Are there other types of structure I should look at? I saw on bass tech how they used pvc but that would cost too much and I think tree branches would hold more fish. Opinions?
  14. My partner has a 1236. No problem standing, but space is limited. Although those are incredible prices (cheapest 1236 in RI is $830) I would go with the 12 if you are looking to make life easier. The 16 definately needs a trailer. My partners 1236. Yea, that's snow and ice,lol
  15. EVEN BETTER!!! lol
  16. Fluke, I like it!! Has a cool ring to it,..."I'm gonna go spend a couple hours on the other woman",...lol
  17. 3 greatest advantages -sound reduction -flat floor, no ribs to trip on -all boats get a bit a water in them from the fish you bring in or the anchor, etc. Floors keep your gear out of the puddle.
  18. I've never thrown one of those, please keep us posted as to your results. How well does that weedgaurd work? The thought of pulling somthing through the pads with the hook pointing down seems impossible to me.
  19. standard outdoor short-pile. It has a rubber backing. Go to any carpet store and tell them what you want it for and they'll show you. Only 1 store (GCO) carries it around here. Actually, they all carry it but only 1 keeps it in stock. You may have to order it.
  20. Fl fisher. If you get one of those I sure would appreciate a review. Thanks.
  21. I would rebuild it just as it was personally.Coat whatever you use with polyurethane or fiberglass resin and you'll never have to do this again. Good luck!
  22. Somewhat related. I used to live on Barrington beach. Only a couple houses at the end of a public beach. The bluefish use the whole cove to corner huge schools of baitfish and when the bite is on, it's actually"loud". Bluefish boil on bait in football field size schools. Anyway, I was awoken one night about 4-430AM by the fish going nuts. I went downstairs, grabbed a rod off the wall and made my way down to the beach. I waded out in my underwear up to my waist and started nailing fish after fish. Next thing I know, my watch is beeping(wake up alarm) It's 7:00 and there are about 50 people all around having morning coffee, walking dogs, fishing,etc,...AND I'M IN MY UNDERWEAR!. Had to high step it up the lawn, laughing to myself the whole way.
  23. I agree with everything above PLUS you'll want to bring a huge bag of luck, maybe some offerings for the gods and a 4-leaf clover, because even if you do everything right, and have all the right gear, you still stand a good chance of not getting them to the boat. Just the way it is.
  24. I've recieved 3 emails asking how to make the floors that are in my jon boat. I just want to post it here so I can reply by sending link (easier) and so anyone else who might be interested, can look. ***************************************** make cardboard template of floor area. (basically to mark where ribs are) trace to 3/8 cdx plywood Cut plywood on INSIDE if line(leaves 1/8 in for carpet to roll over edge) coat in polyurethane or resin, let dry Lay carpet on ground and lay board on it upside down. With marker, mark where corners are(just a rough idea of size for gluing) lift board and spray wood and carpet(not too far outside of corner marks) with 3m 99 spray adhesive. Let sit apart for 1 minute and then lay board back down on carpet aligning w/ corner marks. Trim carpet 2 inches away from board all around. pull over and staple (stainless steel staples only) Flip it, lay it in boat and do next one. They just lay in boat. works great, removable for cleaning and winter storage too. Make sure when aligning carpet with boards that carpet pattern has been given some thought. Mine is lines and they all run side to side. Questions? shoot
