  1. I found that if you can find which pond is used for irrigation, you can find a gold mine. First of all, they usually used the biggest or bigger ponds to drain from for irrigation. Around this time of year, many of these irrigation ponds are about 1/2 full and it's like fishing in a barrell!! A fish every cast, and you'll catch some of the same ones repeatedly. "Poaching rods" are recommended if you're fishing an elite course with security. THis rod was made from the tip of a 7weight fly rod,..works perfectly. WHat I do is find a place where you can stash the rod quick. Fish near a bush, rocks, any place where you can stick this real quick. If you get approached, stuff rod away and explain that you are late getting home so you tried cutting through the course and now you're all lost and confused cause it all looks the same at night. Definately lots of fish to be had on these golf course ponds tho!
  2. Idle screw is located on the carb. Usually just above the bowl. It will be a small screw running through a tension spring.
  3. greetings, welcome aboard.
  4. Biggest little state in the union-Rhode ISland
  5. best bet is to experiment with both. Make sure you try to add sound or vibration wherever applicable.
  6. The board is what we make it. With Glenn moderating, this should stay as an educational/tutorial site.
  7. Actually, when I started, my girlfriends dad had gotten me a fly tying kit for christmas. They have them from $49. I think mine was the $79 one and well worth it. I got a vice, all kinds of materials, marabou, deer hair, chennile, etc. All other tools for basic stuff which is all you need for jigs. Also included was a book. Here's one I just googled, first hit http://www.jsflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/item/OF-901060-0000
  8. I love wind!! Drift anchors are a plus, or "drag bags" as we call 'em.
  9. Raul- After a few months of enjoying your posts, I was just wondering if I could inquire as to who you are. "What's your story" so to say. I think I read somewhere that you are a VET? In Mexico? Where you born there or a transplant because although I know a few of us get a kick out of some of the "raul-ism's" (new words only Raul could create),we all know exacly what you mean and when my g/f pointed out, English is probably your 2nd language. Wen you think of it that way, you speak English better than 75% of this board. With that said, great posts and thanks for all the researching you invest in your answers. Very infomational.
  10. Would it make sense to manufacture a lure that emits the same frequency as an injured baitfish? I remember seeing a shark special and they used such a frequency to attract them to the area. Does this seem far fetched or sensible?

  12. Best bet is to buy a beginner's fly tying book It won't tell you how to tie a jig but would explain all the steps of tying, knots, wraps, etc. It will explain the tools and dfferent fibers, hairs, and their charachteristics. Then apply the knowledge. Not very hard to do, I could answer any q's you come up with but you really need the pics and stuff to get a good understanding.
  13. I let the gods guide my thought process. I just get a feeling of when I should change up and somtimes I get the same feeling to switch back reeeeal quick. It's not so much a time thing. I don't say, "I'll give this 45 minutes and I'm switching". Instead, As I fish I continually assess the game that is layed out before me and try to plan my choices accordingly. This more so applies to whether I will change 1 of 4 rods that are constantly rigged. Doesn't happen often because 4 choices for the day can usually get you pretty close. If I had difficulties that day, I might try somthing different on 1 or 2 of the rods the next day. Smartazz answer would be- I fish with a lure till it's lost or broken.
  14. Dumpster is a 9 yr old male. I recued him from a neglectful owner. He had been left in a 90 degree tank for an unknown amount of time but when I got him, the fins were gone,he couldn't swim more than a foot before gliding to the borttom and he had a slime coat that was thicker than flu snots! Now he's healthy as can be with an apetite like a bass. He's on a strict feeding schedule so as not to have a messy tank.
  15. regardless of size,...always re-enter a jon boat from the bow, never from one of the sides.
  16. Young man,.....you need to learn that jig. You'd be deadly. Sept.,...you'll see. I'm gonna force you to throw it.
  17. God bless, AMEN, and Praise the Lord!! Free man on the loose, fish beware.
  18. correct. His name is"dumpster" and he's an Oscar which is in the cichlid family.
  19. great posts nwgabassmaster
  20. I use sharpies also. Clear coat over it wouldn't hurt but if it gets worn out, I just color it again. I only use red or black.
  21. Ernel, sounds like the genetics are certainly there, maybe the pond needs a little protection or perhaps a bit of managment to get it back. My biggest in a pond was this one. Saw her under a log at first but eventually caught her in the pads on a topwater. j/k,lol
  22. that's his pet. Here is my Oscar. My brothers mastiff ate a whole loaf of bread and when the bag was showing itself, the vet said to let it go naturally, pulling can do damage.
  23. Never, ever. I like to keep hardware to a minimum and I have no practical use for a swivel. I use them in current for certain types of saltwater fishing, 150lb flouro and up only however and only if using a live baitfish, in which case I use a spro (250lb) swivel. Even then, It needs to be a larger baitfish like a bluefish or a mackerel. You don't see alot of baitfish swimming around with chunks of metal an inch in front of them and I've yet to see a worm wearing jewelry, lol
  24. If repairs can be done from "inside" the boat, water weld, alum epoxy, all work well but I would not recommend these for repairs on the exterior, especially the bottom of the hull, especially if it ever gets dragged across land.
