  1. I'm thinking waterproof camera
  2. Great pics. Now you can clearly see the "sweet spot" Chris spoke of. The jig is dead in the center of it. The soil is different color than the surrounding soil within the bed. I'm going to swing for the fences and say that's where the egg gets deposited. I love the way he is 1 eye down to the bait, keeping watch outside the nest at the same time. Look at how perfect the different levels of bottom material are. From the grass bed to the silt bottom, to the spot that has been cleared away. A great example of why we see Bass with war wounds and tails worn down to the bone. There's a clean 3" of bottom material removed, to make that nest. Granted, it's an accumulation of yrs of spawning, I'm sure that spot gets cleared out every spring, but still,...there's a lot of man hours or should I say Fish hours, of work there. Again, great pics
  3. A good point. This was shot after we had been fishing these beds since they very 1st appeared at the beginning of the week. The majority already had a sweet spot established and in our lake, with that clarity, it's pretty easy to pick out the sweet spot (it's a grey-er color than the sand/gravel around it) Aim for that sweet spot every time. f you are in the nest but not in the sweet spot, the can make all the difference some days. Some days, they'll come out and meet the bait b4 it even gets in the nest. (Like they were on day 2 when I was fishing the rage Tail prototype) Pay attention to fish behavior on every bed and they will generally follow suit for the period you are fishing as long as they are all from the same "wave" of the spawn.
  4. Those were part of the raffle and yes,...you DO need to get on the next one!!
  5. Shoot, grandma had a Reliant K and my b/f had a grn Pacer w/ wood panel doors!
  6. Close, lol Guy driving the boat is CJ (Chris Jones)(Taken), young blonde guy next to him and graciously working the net is Senko77 (Ryan Lamb)(single and couldn't BUY a date) and I am the one working the camera. (Russ Thetonia)(will date anyone)
  7. Thanks, but I couldn't have done it w/o Burley. About 1/2 the pics came from him, seriously. Happy Shackleford?
  8. Here you go folks! Under a month, as we hoped for (no thanks to windows movie maker, ugh) This is the official 4th Annual BR RoadTrip Video from Kentucky Lake, Ky April 2009 If I forgot anyone, I apologize or didn't have a pic or etc, etc. It just means you have to come again next year. Point out my oversight and I'll cameo you in 2010, PROMISE!! lol Enjoy 4th Annual BR RoadTrip Video
  9. I use more tongue ETB-Not sure what's up with that, one other person said the same thing, I'd have to assume it's your internet browser. What are you using?
  10. Same here. Especially if you plan on jigging where most don't have the nads to. Nothing worse than getting the bite and then not having the tools to bring it home. Open water and in grass, 12-17lb will work. Pick a brand, only one I would avoid like the plague is Vanish.
  11. a good point. WHATEVER you fish it on, over or near,...make sure you try bumping it off these structures and covers. Like Hammer said for grass,...bump the tops,....in sticks,...bump the sticks, ...rocky flat, bump the rocks. This causes reaction bites which can be violent,...hold that rod tightly.
  12. if you're a mayor - "Anyone know where I can score a quick fix?"
  13. That's funny to me. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc, etc, all make fine vehicles. To say one is all good, and the rest are crap, is just plain silly. It really all comes down to personal tastes. and the respect grows Fishing pirate- I'm a HUGE fan of German engineering, HUGE, but I think you'd be biting off more than you could chew putting a 330 up against that!! Maybe an M series,......
  14. 12"- 4.8oz crankbait?
  15. ok,...now you're REALLY confused. Let me elaborate Fish #1- Caught on split grip spinning and *** watermelon swirl trick stick. Rod in frame on deck is Crucial w/ Calcutta and a Working Girl swimbait. Fish #2- caught on revo combo with prototype bait. Rod in frame on deck is same crucial with chocolate Altoids tin leaning on it. (My best friends since quitting smoking) What am I missing here?
  16. I fish 80% of my time at night but don't throw anything under 10" anymore. That aside, it would depend on where you are fishing it and how the bass are set up. If they are belly on the bottom- real slow roll suspended- slow roll but in the desired depth range subsurface to top- rip it Now that's for flats and humps, etc open water fishing (where you really want to be at night anyway) If you are beating the bank with it, try everything including , ripping it while in the weeds of the shoreline and killing it as it leaves the wee3ds and hits open water. Mix it up, try everything, but most importantly, pay attention to what you were doing when it worked, and duplicate that. Establish a pattern.
  17. yea,....she's nothing like you,...... did you adopt her?? : ;D Glad you had a nice Moms day and I'm glad you were successful in your mission of honor. Very nice touch to a special day.
  18. I'll have to disagree with you there Matt. I stayed in Hawaii for 6 weeks once. Went fishing with the locals to gather food for the luau that weekend, one of the guys sisters was getting married. We speared lots of Octopus, smaller reef fish and I got me a huge moray (took 2 of us to wrangle it, we were using elastic loaded hand spears). The only thing I ate at the luau that weekend was the calamari and the BBQ's eel. It's almost like a dried meat when they are done with preparing it and it was actually delicious. I was surprised. I also learned that night that chickens like to sleep in trees, craziest thing I ever saw. :-?
  19. I imagine you'd also be liable for any laws you just broke by removing it if you did bring it to a state certified scale. Don't look at this as a negative thing though, most "catch & release" or "closed" seasons are implemented by state agencies to protect the species during the spawn. TO ME, this is far more beneficial to the state of your fishery than having the chance at a record is.
  20. I'm with you 100% crestliner. the confusion comes because the paddletail/shad body manufacturers aren't dumb. With "swimbaits" being the big craze now, they realize that by calling these baits "swimbaits", they can mooch off of the search results (google etc) Just like that "other" forum, who's name is AWFULLY close to ours, did. But for me, and many, many other folk , I'm noticing, your definition/opinion is dead on.
  21. The bed is a depression or a "cleared away" circle, usually found between 2ft and 8 ft of water (although there are some deeper and shallower) The male "clears away" all the loose gravel, sand, silt, debris, with his tail and mouth to make an attractive nest that might entice the female to lay her egg in. Much like humans, the better the real estate, the hotter the chick, lol. Let me see if I can find and video showing a bed..... ok, in the clip below, as the boat gets closer to the rock wall coming out from shore, you'll notice 3 beds at the foot of the right side of the wall. 1 is occupied, 2 are older and abandoned (the Bluegill will conveniently use these in another week or so for their spawn) You can see them better as the clip nears the end. Those are examples of beds. If you see one that's well cleaned like the furthest one in this clip, there IS a fish nearby or directly on it. Don't be fooled if you don't see him,....he's close by. Short clip-BEDS Typical drop shot weights. yes, hook thru the head
  22. my mistake, I thought that was only for line classes. I thought the state and world records needed to be done beforehand but for a line class, you can join after, or alongside the submission. I already was/am a member when I got mine so I'm guessing.
  23. No way man,...I just called your dad to make sure the batts are on the chargers, lol, I'm going back tomorrow around 11. I figure it will be the last day of solid bed fishing like we've seen all week. Man, did we pick the right week again....dead on!! 4" Strike King Finesse worm on a drop shot has been the ticket this week, pick a color, all have worked. BIG BAITS are back when this stage is over, STAY TUNED
