  1. My second baitcaster was a Quantum code that I still have and fish with occasionally, I also have an Energy that I really like. I've had 2 Revo Ss, an Sx, and a Premier, all of which I have rid myself of and unless Abu steps it up, my Toro will be the only revo I'll own. Of all the revos I've had, the '10 SX was the best. I'm not a large fan of either company but I'd have no problem buying another quantum.
  2. for the palm side, press the logo and turn. for the crank side, take off the handle and remove the screws. I've not taken one apart before so there may be a hidden switch somewhere. the cross bar will unscrew to allow the palm side to swing away
  3. first things first....round or low profile?
  4. LP for smaller hands, WLP for larger. The LP has plenty if line capacity and is my preference. The WLP was a little big for me.
  5. I used to wonder the same thing, I have 5 Curados and a Citica and recently bought a Chronarch D7. While the Curados are great reels, the Chronarch is so much smoother and refined. Casting is similar but the retrieve of the D7 is much better. I agree that the price difference is hard to swallow though.
  6. It's a toss up between shimano and daiwa for me, but I chose shimano.
  7. I really like Pline, I prefer CXX for it's strength, I use it mostly in 6-12lb, CX in higher lb tests for manageability and I've never had trouble with it breaking. A leader isn't necessary, the visibility is very low with the moss green.
  8. The 7'MH-F is a bit tip heavy but it makes one helluva spinnerbait rod. I tend to put a heavier reel on mine, it helps balance it out a little better.
  9. I recently bought a 7'2"M-XF and was blown away by how light, balanced, and sensitive it was. The Cumara was a rod that was always in the back of my mind when choosing a new rod. After only fishing it a few times, it is easily at the top of my list.
  10. I wouldn't worry about it, if it gets damaged in transport BPS will take care of it. If there's one thing they do right, it's returns. I would try BTD or TW before BPS if the rod is avaiable there though, free shipping on orders over $50 is a no brainer.
  11. I've had a gold for almost 3 years that I use for shallow cranks. It has been fished hard and other than the paint chipping and the tip guide grooving a bit, I haven't had any major problems, and no problems horsing in an 8lb drum or any of the 3-5lbers I caught at Guntersville in April. I really like them, in fact, I bought two more golds when TW clearanced them and have a new Wild spinning rod. I've never been concerned with the build quality, other than the guides which seems to have been corrected on the later and newer models. Mine will stay in rotation until they break, I've never had second thoughts about them, even after all the stories. Quality issues happen with every rod maker, especially on first runs, you don't hear about Dobyns problems much anymore but the first run champions had lots of breakage issues. Now they make a mighty fine rod. I really like the golds for moving baits abd the wild is a great rod for the price.
  12. There is no wat a 703 is "comparable" in power to a St Croix M power. The 703 is a MH, it is a little under the SC MH but the 704 is more powerful.
  13. I'm not sure but they are a very good rod for their price. I try not concern myself with IM ratings, as others will tell you, there's no standard, so one makers IM 7 can be another's IM 8 or 10. It really seems like a crutch to add appeal, like a $50 baitcaster that has 11 bearings, just there to impress you but 11 cheap bearings can't stand up to 5 well machined, quality bearings.
  14. That's cheaper than on eBay...a really good deal.
  15. haha....some how they succeeded.
  16. Had a minor toothache Sunday....now I've got a dentist appoitment for tomorrow and half a wisdom tooth. Took a bite of corn and crunch. It was cracked at my last appointment but I never followed up, now I have too. The good thing is it doesn't hurt anymore but it's cutting my tongue to shreds.
  17. who rides the train anymore
  18. I've had one for a few years. Designated it my spinnerbait rod at first, don't throw them much so it wasn't fished at first. Even though I still think it's a great spinnerbait rod for me, I also fish t-rigs and lipless cranks on it every once in awhile. I like to put a heavier reel on it because it does seem very tip heavy, have had a Supreme and Energy on it, and now use a Citica. It's a very versatile rod once you get it balanced out.
  19. I have three cranking setups 6'10"MH carrot stix gold/daiwa sol for shallow cranks 7'MH Lucky Craft/ shimano curado e5 for mid-deep 7'10" 7'10"M carrot stix gold/daiwa sol fishes everything well from baby 1 minus to fat free shads Being graphite, the carrot stix are ver sensitive but no longer available. I'd give the Lucky Craft rods a look. They are $150 at Tackle Warehouse.
  20. The citori is a good reel. I fished with a few older ones that were very good. I haven't fished the new ones but I love the new stylings and profile. I don't know about the KVD reel, I prefer not to buy signature series stuff, it never seems to be of very good quality, no matter who makes it. Id say the Citori would be a good buy.
  21. Crappie tube with a 1/16oz jighead. It was with a pixy spooled with 4lb copoly on a 6'2"M carrot stix gold. Didn't get much distance out of it but I got set to cast it.
