  1. Well, i'm not from WI but at Cave Run in KY I hear alot about inline bucktail spinners. I've never really been musky fishing but have heard some talk around the lake. Crash Mullins, a guide on Cave Run, speaks very highly of super stalkers.
  2. Thanks for the advice guys. Walleye fishing is something I'd like to do more of. Went out last night for some bass fishin...caught maybe 3 or so small ones but my dad decided to troll flats along the way back to the boat ramp. Caught this little 3lber at the edge of a large weed flat that rises from 50 or so ft up th 12-15 ft. Caught it on a series 3 strike king bleeding shad.
  3. As far as hook size goes I use 2/0 - 4/0.....I think my finesse hooks are 2/0 and 3/0. I had read that the finesse hooks needed no hook set...I really don't have a hard hook set to begin with but alot were coming off once I got them in close. It could just be inexperience, I didn't give them much of a chance and have heard alot of good about them so I was just asking opinions.
  4. I've been wacky rigging stick baits for about a year now and was wondering what everyone thought as to the best hook for the job. I usually use various EWG worm hooks but have tried the Gamakatsu finesse wide gaps and felt my hook-up % suffered with their use. Any other suggestions?
  5. I've never hooked a bird but my dad hooked a beaver while catfishing with chicken liver one night
  6. Man, I do alot of the things already said. One day me and a friend (Big Tom) spent probably 2-3 hrs deciding what we were each going to say when we hooked into a fish. I also created a dance type maneuver that is reserved for the release of a keeper.
  7. I like that.....may have to put it to use
  8. I live in KY and live but a few miles from a small lake that was, once upon a time, stocked with walleye. I don't quiet know how to explain the details of the lake but it tends to get deep, up to 80 ft in spots. My dad and I have caught walleye both trolling deep cranks and on live minnows (mostly while crappie fishing). Just wondering if anyone could help me with other techniques. If any other lake info is needed just let me know, Ill try to answer the best I can. Here is my personal best caught a few years ago. 8 1/2 lbs while trolling a chrome/blue back Norman DD22 over about 30-40 feet of water at night
  9. Your dad sounds like mine, if it's of legal size, it goes in a cooler. But everyone's right, I enjoy the time I spend with my dad on the lake and I think that really is the reason to go fishing with him. Luckily, my dad isn't a bass fisherman, he's a fisherman period, if it bites, he'll catch it and prefers crappie, bluegill, catfish, and walleye over bass but he still keeps a limit of what he calls "eaters" (12" and under slot at our local lake) if they're biting good, he says they taste better than the larger ones. I have, however, made some progress as to the fact he's been releasing larger ones after I expressed my opinions on catch-and-release.
  10. I've really got into fishing them but my selection is limited. I currently fish Kinami Flash, strike king zero's, Tiki Wave Worms, YUM dingers, and NetBaits version (name escapes me). Anyway, I was just wondering about some of your preferences with these baits. I've not tried senkos but I hear they are fragile, much like the flash. Are there any other brands worth trying? At the moment price is an issue as I'm a college student with little funds. Any advice or help is appreciated.
  11. That's what I'm sayin
  12. I'm not an expert, but have done a fair share of night fishing with my dad. No matter what the species, his favorite fishing is usually launching around 6-7 pm. We actually went last night with some success. While still light we I caught 3-4 undersized fish with a weightless Kinami Flash in green pumpkin wacky rigged, at dusk a wounded zara and manns waker provided some topwater action, and after dark the flash rigged texas weightless produced. from my experiences, flourescent line and a blacklight are almost a must after dark. It allows for easier detection of light strikes. as for the fish, the bites moved from 10-15 feet during the day to 1-3 after dark. with many bites so shallow that they could be heard just inches from the bank with the fishes backs out of the water. but that's just my experience, take from it what you will
  13. I'm pretty new too but as far as I can tell this is the place for some good info.
  14. Yeah, was a bad Idea but I'm 23 and I guess just got a little stir crazy. Tried to stick to his orders: sat, no bending or heavy lifting... did do some twisting to which I attribute my pain, well, that and that from casting and such.
  15. I have been a member for a little while although kinda inactive. I just had back surgery Thursday so I'll probably be using this board for my fishing jones for a little while, even though I went out last night for a few hours against Dr.'s orders for a quick fix but paid for it in pain this morning. Anyway, this is just an introduction to everyone.
  16. Well, I don't know how it goes for bass but my dad has harvested many catfish that, upon cleaning them and opening the stomach to retrieve his own hooks and leaders, have had other hooks within in them. Many had appeared to have been there for quiet some time, some were whole and some partially rusted off, so it may not be to big of a problem. Again, this was for channel and flathead catfish, bass may be more sensitive.
  17. This is not funny but last year during my lunch break at work I was reading the local paper and read about a major mistake. A guy was apparently bluegill fishing at the marina of the lake near my college, hooked a musky, and had it bite his finger almost completely off when he tried to lip it. Luckily, I believe, it was reattached.
  18. Man, I would love to go up there with you guys. It'd be neat if you could get your uncle's boat for a trip up there, assuming it could handle it. To tell you the truth, I was excited to just call and find out how each day went.
