  1. I bought a 7'4''H during the BPS Spring Classic and really like it so far. Haven't had it out much yet but I plan on breaking it in at Guntersville in two weeks. I did take it out a few times with no luck but it feels like a pretty sensitive rod, it's not the lightest I own or the best balanced but better than most in it's price range. I mainly got this rod to try a micro guide rod, I was gonna look at the micro Carbonlites but they were all gone and I can't stand the W&M Tessera rods . Honestly, I'm not sold on micros but it's a really nice rod, it's got some minor additions that just do it for me like the small band around the butt that says the power, just a neat little thing that ramps it up.
  2. From my personal experiences, I beleive I would look at either the Carrot Stix Wild or BPS Pro Qualifier for $100 rods. The Powell Max may run you a little over with 4 but if that's ok....do it, they are great rods for the price. Now if it were me, I'd drop a spinning rod and go either 3 Dobyns Savvys or 3 Pinnacle Perfectas. I throw most senkos, jerkbaits, and tubes on M casting gear and use a spinning rod for shakey heads and drop-shots.
  3. You should really like it. I have two casting rods, one I preordered and the other I ordered before I got the first one. Now, I'm not one to do thatbut my rationale was that Gary Dobyns help to develop the Powell Max rods, I like the Powell rods, they are a great rod for the price. If he heped design a rod that I like and then creates his own rod to rival that rod, my thought process says it should be just as good if not better and I was not let down.
  4. I have a '10 SX and 5 Curados Es. I prefer the Curado, it casts a bit easier and the SX mag brakes are just a little to finicky. The SX is probably one of the smoothest reels I have ever felt and Shimano sure isn't gonna win any awards in that department. Both are good reels though.
  5. They already have one, FLw College Fishing.
  6. Honestly, you should have at least looked at it and gave the handle a few turns before buying it. I never buy a reel in person before at least looking it over and making sure it feels ok. I would say that was a demo reel if i had to guess but there's no way to know. It's not just Quantum that has rough spots on their record, they've all had flops and things get missed. Before e21 moved the warranty center to OH they wanted me to ship a rod to them in Canada and pay for return shipping on a replacement + $40 for service...it would have come out to close to twice the price I payed for the rod....some warranty :
  7. I use 2 7'M-XF Damiki Dark Angel, Stradic CI4, 8lb Red Label 7'2''M-XF Pinnacle Perfecta, Pflueger Supreme XT, 8 lb InvisX
  8. Did Mann's come out with a new snake? I had a pack when they first came out and they didn't float but had to be retrieved pretty fast to keep on top.
  9. honestly, I don't notice a difference between the Copoly and FC lines I use when it comes to casting. With my shimanos I use two brakes, my Daiwa and Revo mag brakes are usually around 60-75% and I adjust my spool tension according to conditions.
  10. either a 7'M-XF Zillion or 6'10''MH-F Carrot Stix Gold.
  11. Dicks has some cheaper combos like the lightening rod combos and they have the Tech Spec rods which are great rods for around $50
  12. I bought one a few weeks ago and don't really mind the knobs. I've not been fishing with it though, I'm gonna try it this weekend but it didn't feel rough at all. I would prefer a rounded knob like the CI4 though.
  13. As much as I like to read the reviews on TT, there's very little uniformity or consistancy to their ratings. The Skeet Reese (which, according to most of the reviews I've read, feels like a piece of junk to just about everyone who handles it) gets a 8.08, but the Patriarch only gets a 7.5? : Thier patriarch review really annoys me the olny real negatives are that it's too heavy and doesn't come in a Lefty. 8.4 for the widespool is still lighter than an Zillion, Advantage, Revo S, SX, and STX, and the LP is 8oz, The fact that "Has all the "clickies"" is a plus, eventhough the "clicky" drag star was inconsistant with lots of play, just makes me doubt the review. When a major amount of your score depends on whether or not the adjustable parts click, you're really throwing personal preference into what is supposed to be a non biased review. It really seemed they didn't have much good to say about but really strectched it, the fact that it comes with a reel cover and its good for accurate casting, aren't most reeels in the right hands? There are about 5 different reels I would choose over one in its price range. I hate the color and how it feels, I tried one at a local tackle shop and I'd rather fish my old Quantum code.
  14. I've not had any experience with the PG line but I did buy a Wild spinning rod at the BPS spring classic and am really impressed with it except for the hook keeper, why they switched from the small clip type to the mess they have now, I'll never know. If you can find a 6'10"MH Gold on sale or for a good price, >$150, I'd suggest snatching it up for a crankbait rod. As for the ones you have, I'd go opposite and say use the 6'9" as a spinnerbait rod and 7'3" for contact baits but those are my preferences
  15. old blue reel or the new chrome reels. If it's an old blue reel just tighten the drag, press in the star, and turn the handle backwards. I'm not sure about the new one but they look like any other handle with a cap and screw but i could be wrong
  16. Well, to the OP, I have used both the Powell and Savvy in the 704. Both rods are very similar in feel but the Savvy is a tad lighter and better balanced. The sensitivity is pretty even with the Savvy having the upper hand but the Powell very close. Either rod is a good choice, the Powell is a little cheaper but the Savvy is more refined.
  17. The now ones do nothing for me...the Slop Craw just looks laughable for some reason. I bought some of the Devil Spears and am going to get some on the pit boss'. Great prices but some of the baits lack appeal but wait....NO SCENT???..How can berkley make a bait without the Powerbait scent :-? ...most baits I use aren't scented anyway though. JJ's over powers most scents anyway
  18. just got mine the other day....can't wait to give them a try...
  19. Top: Stump Hopper Bottom: Okeechobee Bruiser
  20. those some mattlures blue gills? yep...the U2 gills
  21. TW has them on sael for $7.49
  22. from BPS Spring Classic 7'4''H Quantum Smoke PT 7'ML Carrot Stix Wild Pflueger Supreme XT 30 ...the Citica on the Smoke isn't new...that's right...a Shimano on Quantum ;D came in the mail Wednesday
