  1. looks good
  2. I think it means STARTING at 59.99 which is how much the triumphs cost because I saw this too. But I own a premier crankin rod and I love it. I have the medium power moderate or moderate fast action? Either way its very flexible and can cast the lures I want very well. You nailed it. I failed to be observant when I looked at the ad at 5am this morning before the GRE studying began. I am still going to see what the deal is, gotta drive by it anyway. Might as well let the monkey have at me.
  3. It says "St. Croix Premier or Triumph Rod" so I figure that means anything they carry in the line. They are also giving a free sweatshirt with the purchase. I know the Avid is a great rod but for an extra hundred bucks, not sure I want to swing that.
  4. These rods are in the current Dicks flyer for $60 and I am thinking of picking one up. I am looking for a crankbait rod. Are any of you fishing the crankbait models? Or glass crankbait models? If you have fished both would you recommend one over the other? I am looking at the 7' M models in each. Thanks
  5. Saw someone throwing a line into Keeler bay on Thursday. I almost had to stop and join him. Considering he had about 30 feet of open water before hitting ice again I decided to keep driving.
  6. It is an old method that a few guys use for a very short season. It was banned but enough people complained and got the season back. Personally I have to agree with you. Bowfishing for carp is legal in VT too.
  7. You would be surprised how many of those fly guys are tossing trout beads. Rapala dt4 got me one on the first toss, as did a 4" slim senko.
  8. Those look great for a first try. I just started this winter, and notice I haven't posted any of mine. You know I mean it. It's amazing how blowing some paint around makes you respect the guys you see on here even more for what they do.
  9. Thats killer, I would just throw it on the fly rod though. Can't see any reason that wouldn't cast just fine on the 8wt. I have been using those hooks to tie topwaters that ride with the hook up(small dumbell underneath at the 90 degree bend. the one on the left), as well as some streamers. Have not put any soft plastic tails on though, that is a great combo. I have been trying to concoct a better weedless option for the fly rod than a mono loop and that just might be it. If anyone wants to clue me in as to how to link to a photo I would greatly appreciate it. PM me.
  10. Don't worry guy it's over...we are all moving on to sexy sunfish now.
  11. I am so ticked > I was just there and did not realize that it was for any excalibur hardbait, thought it was just the lipped cranks. I didn't need anymore of those bout would have bought some lipless. By the way, and not to hijack, anyone know the difference between an excalibur fat free shad and the bombers?
  12. This is exactly what I thought. I really enjoyed learning how to baitcast with this one so I don't regret the purchase, just didn't think it was a $140 reel. The quantum is the saltwater model I guess (from another thread), and again probably a good deal at $80. Interesting marketing tactic anyway.
  13. Wondering if you guys know anything about the reels that only Dicks carries? I have a Daiwa capricorn that I bought last year for $55, and just bout a quantum energy for ~$80 that has orange accents. Both reels said they were originally much more expensive, but Dicks can price them however they want they are the only ones that sell them. I can see that the energy is supposed to mimic the energy that you can buy everywhere, but does it have the same components as the reel I would get at a different shop? I really like the capricorn, it has been a great reel, and I think the quantum will be decent too, just wondering what the story is behind them.
  14. Nice. I epoxied wood to a drill bit and tape my drill on at a low speed. Works for now.

    More Cranks

Really like the brown over yellow combo.
  16. Thanks guys, I can tell by looking at the tying area I am dying for spring.
  17. Realizing this is why I put a pause on putting anything new together. Ice on the pond means I cant see it swim' I have a bunch of different lip, weight, position models to look at once the ice disappears. Figure I better stop building stuff that might not look anything like I want it to in the water.
  18. I got the urge to dig around in the materials bin to see if I could put some sexy shad'ish flies together. Still auger deep ice (18") on the lake outside my door, gonna be a while before I can see how they work. Pardon my lack of photo technique.
  19. You don't give yourself near enough credit with your thread titles. Pretty much just put awesome in front of cranks every time you make a title and you will be describing the thread properly.
  20. Looks like one. You should definitely think about noise with these things also. I don't know if that one will be running all the time while you paint but if it is, and it is loud, your housemates will hate you pretty quickly.
  21. That bottom pattern is awesome Marty. Would be a killer perch pattern up here.
  22. Go catch a fish on it. That is if Central FL puts you south of this snowstorm that seems to have hit everyone else.
  23. Only one wader I know of has a lifetime warranty. LLbean. Their flyweight breathables start at $60. Never have to buy another pair again until you decide to upgrade.
  24. Just the name as far as I can tell. Someone cuts strips of mylar and calls it flashabou instead of christmas tree tinsel then sells it for a whole bunch more.
  25. Packing tape I can see that. I use the swiss straw coated with epoxy to make wing cases on trout flies, they look very similar is why I wondered if that was it. Whatever they are they look great.
