  1. Mine came in last night, and it looks awesome. Man that Gammi hook is sharp. The wife said it looked good enough to be a christmas tree ornament.
  2. I don't think the words I want to type about Tims fish, will get through the curse filter. That must be a huge fish considering how large the kid is. I should be getting mine in the mail today. I guess I am fishing this weekend.
  3. Great Thread, but it raises a question in my mind. If I have a lure that comes equipped with a split ring, is there any benefit to using a loop knot also? I do, but would prefer to just use a clinch or palomar.
  4. This is Awesome.
  5. One response from Atlanta, just sent.
  6. I have to give another Vouch to the yozuri Pins Minnow, definitely my go-to confidence bait. It might not catch the biggest fish, but i have caught my PB Large mouth on one at 5#'s.
  7. It is definitely a small spool, not necessarily shallow for it's size.
  8. Thanks everyone, I will have to try a variety of things.
  9. I don't where you are in Atl., but the Sports Authority next to the Northlake Mall had a couple Daiwa Regal 1000's on clearance last time I was there. They had them marked down to $29.97 with an additional 30% off. That's a great deal on a very nice little reel. Thanks for the heads up, and d**n if I wans't just up at perimeter yesterday, and did not even think of stopping at SA. May have to check out that deel.
  10. Instructions? you must be confusing me with the more intelligent gender. Just kidding, I did not refer to the reel manufacturer instructions, if I even have them. Your response certainly raises the question of how to spool a spinning reel. Today I have read, on this very site: line off the bottom - assuming I am looking at the narrow edge of the spool Line off spool Counter clockwise - assuming I am looking at the wide side of the spool (and my kids can maintain proper pencil holding technique) supply Spool on floor - coming off in some specific direction? Do those line spooling tools make this agonizing riddle any more clear or easy? (was that a monkey voice in my head?) Oh, to answer your question, I believe I had my wife holding the supply spool so that the line came off counter clockwise from my perspective at the business end.
  11. Thanks, I definitly think oversspooling may have been one issue. I was using the second of two spools filled and it likely had the extra few yards off a new line spool that always seems to go to waste. Line weight should not have been an issue, as it was only 4# test. I tried to keep an eye on the spool holder I enlisted to help, but if I yell at my wife about properly holding the line, she gets upset. Who am I kidding, I am just trying to justify the monkey on my back who keeps telling me to buy a new UL Reel for trout season.
  12. I have a 4'6" UL ugly stick that I have had for 10 years or so, purchased as a combo with an appropriate sized Shakespeare reel. I recently replaced the shakespeare reel with an inexpensive BPS UL reel. I feel like I am experiencing a higher than normal occurence of loops on my spool. I assume that this is caused by line twist, and I am doing what I can to prevent that (closing bail by hand, drawing line tight to bail, trying to make sure that line goes on spool properly at initial spooling, letting line drag behing canoe periodically) Sunday it caused me great consternation because of the frequency. Do you pros have any input as two what I can do? Is it a guarantee that I spooled the line improperly (just done the night before)? Is it just a fact that an inexpensive spinning reel will do this more often than a higher quality one? Please help me with this, as this is the primary set-up I use for the upcoming trout season.
  13. the bait monkey attacked me at Wally World on Saturday and I bought a pack of these too. I took one for a swim on Sunday but did not really see any motion to it while casting and retrieving. I sure would like to know how to present these too.
  14. I can't offer any specific advice, but I do know that there is a lot of farm pond fishing in that area. Good fun from what I can tell.
  15. I am not going to say why, but that last post made me laugh.
  16. I am no expert, not by any means, but in my feeble mind I see it like this: Flat bottom Jon boat =greater initial stability V-bottom = greater secondary stability
  17. I recently read about a tournament on another fishing website, primarily devoted to river fishing & kayaks, where they simply used lengths instead of weight. Using those ruler stickers, you snap a digital pic of each fish caught, clearly showing head tail and measurement. Longest cumulative inch total for a 5 limit won the tourney.
  18. That looks like a simple enough knot to tie.
  19. Don't be so sure about that Rob. there are plenty of bass in the Hooch around Atlanta, but don't tell anyone.
  20. If I get mine today, I will definitely try some odd arrangments tomorrow.
  21. I don't have much exerience fishing for bass in rivers, but do spend a fair amount of time trout fishing in them. One section of river that I fish, holds not only trout, but Shoal Bass and Striped Bass, as the water warms. Although I have not caught a striper, I have caught shoal bass, and they seem to be in the same places as trout. Those places being current breaks, eddys, pushwater and shoreline structure. I only know this because I catch the occasional shoalie while trout fishing. As far as casting up stream or down stream, I do it both, but more often than not, I am casting cross stream, quartering the current. This lets me keep pressure on the lure, allowing for a cross current / down current drift. A lot of hits come on the sweep, where the current changes the lure presentation from primarily cross current to primarily up current. I guess I would try to identify fishy spots and try to time the sweep so th lure swings through those spots.
  22. I am not much of a soft plastics guy, but have you looked at Rubber Eels? I think they are typically used for SW Striper fishing.
  23. Thanks All.
  24. Nice to see some fish coming out of that lake. I have never had any luck there, but have not really given it any pressure. I may have to splash my canoe in there, since it is only 5 minutes from me too. Looks like we have a few from Brookhaven & Sandy Springs on the board.
  25. I wanted to say hello to the forum. I am new here and fairly new to Bass fishing. I look forward to reading, learning and hopefully adding to this site. Tight Lines.
