  1. Ragetail shad worked for me this year under those conditions.
  2. They are great baits. I love the silver/black,bluegill, baby bass and have some suprising success on the parrot color also. They are well made baits and have run pretty true right out of te box for me too. I haven't bought the DT-3's yet. I have used the 4's, 6's,10's and 16's though.
  3. Rapala DT6 in a bluegill color
  4. Learned to use a baitcaster Overhand casts, sidearm casts, underhand casts and feathering the spool. That's just from one post I read on the forum. gained the confidence to bounce crankbait off cover and structure and suppress my fear of losinf them and in the process caught a 32" flathead in the process. Learned to use a topwater bait and catch fish off it. Learned to swim a plastic worm and drag it through cover. The biggest thing I learned is no matter what technique you're fishing is that confidence is a main ingredient. Next year I hope to learn to flip/pitch, drop shot, and maybe fish my first tournament.
  5. IMHO Texas rigs will never come close to the versatility of a jig. A jig is one of those go to baits that every fisherman, not just bass fisherman, needs to get comfortable with. My first introduction to bass fishing was with a jig. There's not much you can't do with a jig except top water. You can drag it, hop it , swim it, jig it, bounce it off cover through cover. You can work it fast, slow, steady, erratic and anyway you want. You just have to get comfortable fishing it, and the only way to do that is with practice, practice, practice.
  6. He's telling the truth. When that happens I come prepared with a spare spool and some sharp scissors and a small plastic bag to make sure I don't litter the ground with my mono clippings. ;D
  7. Nice memory for you and him. It's sad to say he has one more dropshot bass than I do. ;D
  8. What power and action and legth of rod do you fish your jigs with if I may ask. That's a beautiful fish.
  9. 1. Be prepared to adapt your fishing to the conditions. The fish decide what works, not you. 2. Even if you're not confident in a particular technique or bait learn to use it. It could salvage your fishing outing. 3. Safety First wear eye protection especially with shatterproof lenses. Went out to my buddy's pond this morning with a friend and starting using the old reliable Ragetail products and no luck. Mind you this is the pond where I caught 21 bass in three hours about a month ago on Ragetail Shads and Toads. Well no luck, so my buddy ties on a plastic worm and proceeds to catch the next 4 fish before I catch my next bass. It was in those next 4 hours I relearned a lesson every fisherman should remember. The fish dictate what works not the other way around. Even if you feel uncomfortable or not particularly confident in a bait or technique, there's no better time to try it than when you're on the water. I started fishing plastic worms also and proceeded to catch 6 of our next 8 bass. I also had a bait unsnagged come flying back towards my head hook and sinker attached at a high velocity once at my head and once nailing me in the leg. Thank goodness for long pants.
  10. Good fisherman - check Great choice in sports teams - check Great father who takes him fishing - check Seems that that young man is well on his way to success and happiness. Keep up the good work. That's a very nice bass by the way.
  11. The Rapala DT Series has the Dive to depth stamped on the bills. They're what I use, don't other tackle manufacturers do the same.
  12. Topwater and unweighted is the way to go. They should should gurgle when fished.2 sundays ago my buddy and I caught 31 combined on nothing but Ragetail Shads and Toads.
  13. How many rod/reel combos are gonna be enough. What types should I take crankbait/dropshot/flippin pitchin. i plan on making next year and wanna know what I'm gonna need to pack. Not looking for models and makes yet but lengths and line test would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Thanks for the advice.
  15. I just broke mine out of the box today and was doing fine until the third hour and then it started making a screeching sound at the end of long casts. Other than that I like it.
  16. Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. The quantums go back to the store. They were on sale at academy and the bait monkey had me in a serious death grip when I bought em yesterday. Atleast I won't have to explain em to the missus.
  17. I have now come into posession of 2 Calcutta 200's and 1 Calcutta 100 and 3 Quantum Energy E760PT's but I can only keep three. The Calcutta's are used but in fine working order and the Quantum's are brand new. I'm still getting used to casting the Calcutta but have already owned 2 Quantum's before and have no problem with them. So what would you do in this situation. Which would you keep in my place, the Quantum's or Calcutta's.
  18. Need suggestions for a pair of polarized eyewear for fishing. I need a pair and plan on asking for them for my birthday. Needed Specs Lightweight frames Shatterproof Lenses Price Range 50 to $200 Would appreciate any helpful tips and suggestions.
  19. Will it fish on top if you rig it weightless?
  20. With baitcasters it's not really about distance. In my own amateur/humble opinion it's about " accuracy, lure placement, and line control" when using a baitcaster. As a lifelong spinning reel fisherman who made himself learn to use a baitcaster this summer. It might seem easier to cast farther on a spinning reel of comparative cost than a baitcaster. That's only because you can get a quality spinning reel for $59 dollars while you don't seem to seem to scratch the surface of quality baitcaster until you start to reach the $100 pricepoint.
  21. Went out again this morning at 6:45 with a buddy and all we did was fish Ragetails. Didn't use braid but paid more attention to the strike and set the hook with alot more authority. I caught 20 and my buddy caught 11. Hooked alot more than I miss. I will definitely use braid now after losing 1 fish after it dove underneath the lilypads and broke off my 12lb mono. Needless to my buddy was buying Ragetails after we got done.
  22. I bought a Calcutta 100 and a Calcutta 200 that should be coming in on Wednesday what rod would you pair with the Calcutta100, price range 75 to 150 dollars. Does anyone have any braid reccomendations.
