About the only technique specific rods I would purchase are A-Rig and Swimbait rods. The requirements for those are so outside the norm that you have to buy them.
I didn't use a bait caster till I was in my mid 30's. I think back to 1984 when I tried to use my first baitcaster, it backlashed horribly. I didn't pick one up again till 2007.
Added the rods. I'm short three reels. Thinking of Metaniums or Exsence DC's for the Cumaras and Curado I for the frog rod.

I buy what I buy because I have no kids and can afford to splurge every once in awhile. That being said I don't begrudge anyone for the gear they buy. We all have economic priorities and people buy what they can afford. Fishing is for the enjoyment not a status contest.
Shimano till I die or until someone pays me to fish with something else.
Fortunately for you, this condition is harder on those around than you. It is wrong to call it a problem. But if you feel you are about to od on all this stuff, send it to me I will bear your burden.
