As everyone stated above, it can't be stressed enough to upgrade your trolling motor to 24v and maybe increase the trust a little, including charging system while the boat is still on order. It will truly pay for itself in useful time on the water and reliability over the years you own the boat. JB

Welcome to the Forums Spencezilla, and have you thought about a float tube? If you don't have to worry about gators and snakes this could be an economical option. And if you like trick worm's suggestion, there are many good examples in "Show your ride..." RoLo mentioned golf course ponds (with permission), ponds or lakes with shore access which are great options until you're able to tow a boat. Good fishing, JB

Here is my PB, and I caught her on what started out as a cold, rainy, windy April day. For some reason, I picked up the rod that I had an AC Minnow tied on and after catching a 5lber, I didn't put it down. And man, did it pay off! Nice fish chubaka, but I ran out "likes" for the day and had to give props!

Thanks bma3, spell check issue which I corrected. By the way, the deepest part of Lake Chabot is along the buoy line and is no more than 60 feet. I used to have a portable fish finder a long time ago and I was surprised it wasn't deeper.

bma3, glad to hear you've discovered Lake Chabot! Most of the fishermen target trout, but big Florida strain largemouth and slab crappie are also in the lake. I know "eastbayanglers" have posted several videos fishing from shore for bass using different techniques. I'm not sure if you're able to rent a boat or have access to an electric trolling motor, but Alder Point, Half Moon Bay, and the area east of the dam can be really good. Good luck, JB

FrankN209, right now the Delta is fishing REALLY tough with all the runoff pushing more water into the system. Water is stained with temps predominately in the high 40's with very few areas making it to 50 degrees in the afternoon. There is more rain in the forecast starting Wednesday (Feb 1), but the big girls gotta eat sometime in preparation for the spawn. And when that happens, a jig is probably gonna get you the bigger bites.

Went out Tuesday in between storms, 41 degree air temp, 49.2 degree water temp and didn't get a bite. Took this flick of the competition who's been working the area in front of the dock for at least three weeks now.... and I know he's on fish. I did get to watch another sea lion feed on a 6+ pound bass. So I for one appreciate the photos of what everyone's been catching. Continued good fishing, JB

FishOnLMB- Since you ruled out Kastmasters and a cast a bubble with a fly/leach pattern. From shore I'd go with a black Rooster Tail, behind the boat- Rebel Wee Crawfish or fly lining a threaded night crawler. Good fishing in 2017, JB

iceintheveins, this has everything to do with a water grab by big Ag in the Central Valley and Southern California water interests that has been 50+ years in the making. I believe this bill is the precursor to implementing the building of the Twin Tunnels, Jerry Brown's SECOND attempt to complete his father's legacy, and is now using the "how do you eat an elephant" methodology. Environmentalists, fishermen, and delta farmers have been trying to prevent this visible decline of the SF Bay/Cal Delta ecosystem. The petition 2016-011, which called for changes to recreational fishing size and bag limits for striped and black bass was withdrawn by the petitioners who championed the species eradication. The petitioners were: The Coalition for a Sustainable Delta, California Chamber of Commerce, California Farm Bureau Federation, Kern County Water Agency, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Northern California Water Association, San Joaquin Tributaries, Southern California Water Committee, State Water Contractors, and Western Growers. (Ref. Keep America Fishing, August 24, 2016) Almonds and pistachios are wonderful snacks, but most (67%) are exported. It takes 1.1 gallons of water to produce one (1) almond, and there are 276 almonds in a pound, which takes 303.6 gallons of water to produce that pound of almonds. By 2020, the California almond industry is projecting to harvest over 3 billion pounds of almonds, opening a new market for almonds in Mexico and expanding markets in Europe...... riverbasser, your questions are similar to those of every new perspective bass club member. Some clubs will be more competitive than others, as will members within the clubs themselves. Some clubs the boaters and non-boaters compete against each other. In other clubs boaters strictly compete against boaters and non-boaters compete against other non-boaters. And some clubs include a combined boat/team weight. Clubs members understand work, family commitments, and financial situations might affect how many tournaments members can fish. The most important thing is you are gonna learn to be a better fisherman, which I believe we all want to be, and why we as a group contribute to Bass Resource. And to answer your last question, you'd be asked at the end of the meeting.. "You want to fish as a guest next tournament?" Good fishing, JB

On Friday, December 16, 2016 President Obama signed the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act into law. Section 4010 of the bill (pg 648) "directs the Secretary of Commerce, acting through the Assistant Adminstrator of the National Marine Fisheries Service, and the districts shell jointly established and conduct a non-native predator research and pilot fish removal program to study the effects of removing from the Stanislaus River- (A) non-native striped bass, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, black bass; (B) other non-native predator fish species" Additional language.... " The pilot projects under this section shall- (A) seek to reduce invasive aquatic vegetation (such as water hyacinth), predators, and other competitors that contribute to the decline of native listed pelagic and anadromous species that occupy the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers and their tributaries and the Delta; and (B) remove, reduce, or controlled the effects of species including Asiatic clams, silversides, gobies, Brazilian water weed, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, crappie, bluegill, white and channel catfish, zebra and quagga mussels, and brown bullheads." Among the removal methods...."consider using wire fyke trapping, portable resistance board weirs, and boat electrofishing." I was one of many in the local/national sport fishing community who signed petitions against a proposed bill (HR2898) which aimed to do exactly (almost verbatim) what this bill intends. My fear is if this "pilot program" is successful, it will complete the decimation of the SF Bay/Delta fisheries and it could be further implemented in lakes across the state.... JB
