  1. @billmac, sounds like cheap insurance to me and one less thing to worry about

  4. Hello @Norcalbassin530 from Northern California! Welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums! I understand Lake Almanor is a pretty good smallmouth fishery on top of the trout fishing. I’ve got some fond memories of fishing the N fork of the Feather and Deer Creek.
  5. After the Labor Day weekend, I figured it was finally time to get out on the water and do a little fishing. I wasn’t the only fisherman with that idea, and we only had to contend with a couple of yachts heading back to their berths signaling the end of their season. I got bit on pretty much everything I threw, breaking off a good one on a senko. I’ve had everything to throw a Neg rig in the boat for a couple of years and decided to break it out today and go for some numbers. I just find it ridiculous how that thing works, and coupled with light tackle it sure is fun! Here’s my best Ned fish of the day, a pretty little river bass.
  6. @TroyCopeland05 you can have deceit trout fishing in the Truckee River throwing Panther Martin or Mepps spinners. Check the regs, if I remember correctly some areas are barbless or fly fishing only. The evening bite can be pretty good. Have only fished Donner and Stampede for kokes. The bridge where Lake Tahoe dumps into the Truckee might give you an idea of the size of the brown trout in the lake/river. Have a great trip, it should be fun...

  12. @JK Jake I’ll start by saying enjoy your day with your father and family friend and I’ll assume you’re going in a boat. I and all BR members share your concerns when it comes to putting friends and family on fish. Wacky or T-rig a 5” stick bait (senko) or a spinnerbait is a good starting point for basic fishing experience and any age level. Good sandwiches and cold drinks or a place on the water to get a good burger will help put the focus on the company and conversation, that fishing was convenient excuse...
  13. My winterization consists of a little Stabil in the tanks in the event it’s over a couple of weeks since my last fishing trip. The only time in the winter I’ve encountered “hard water” I was able to break through it with the trolling motor...
  14. Called the “Zlinky”, TW currently stocks 10 colors and it comes in 5” lengths. I’ll pretty much stick with the GYB original, cause IMHO if it ain’t broke....
  15. Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend with family and friends. With the weather report saying temperatures near triple digits pretty much means everyone is headed for the water. I’m fortunate enough to have a pool to enjoy and can look forward to when everyone is back at work to get out on the water.
  16. @The Fisher, I really don’t believe there is a set time to do a little preventative maintenance on ones equipment, which includes rods, reels, and tackle. For some there is an “off season” where you can’t get on the water and that’s when a full tear down of your equipment is done. I don’t think the heat will severely affect your reels which a few minutes and a couple drops of oil wouldn’t cure before this January. I’ll put a couple drops of oil on my spool bearings when changing line and I’m pleasantly surprised at the “new found” distance I get and the minimal effort it took when casting.
  17. Agreed, a very nice headline and story
  18. My poll response “sometimes” was due to when it’s required by law. Here in California that would probably pertain certain waters where you’re probably after salmon or trout. Of course, when I find myself in the situation @haggard provided, I wished hook I’d just stuck myself with was barbless!
  19. Two days after this post, I got a phone call from Dan that he just got the part in a shipment of reels. To my surprise, today it arrived in the mail. The help I received procuring reel parts from James at DadsOleTackle and Dan Issac is very much appreciated....
  20. Looks like a Lake Trout (Mackinaw) that had its tongue cut from its jaw and managed to survive....
  21. @12poundbass, A band from the People’s Democratic Republic of Berkeley, and a nice blast from the past! And welcome @TroyCopeland05 to Bass Resource and the Forums. I’ve never fished Lodi Lake, so unfortunately I can’t offer any insight to that particular lake. If you’re fishing from shore Troy, maybe try a 5” stick bait (senko) in green pumpkin, watermelon w/red and black flake or a spinnerbait. And as @WRB suggested, fan cast an area then move a short distance and repeat the process. Good luck and good fishing
  22. @Wizzlebiz, 3/4oz Rattletraps, either chrome w/blue or black back seem to work best for both species, especially if the strippers are running in the Delta. For top water, consider throwing a Super Spook, Pencil Popper, or Lunker Punker. In the fall when water temps start to drop, trolling a jointed 6-8” rebel spoonbill or the Rattletraps would be productive. Good luck out there
  23. Practicing for the Louisiana Water follies
  24. X2, not to mention the Skeeter has 25 more ponies attached to the stern
