  1. I had a custom rod made for that purpose using 6'6 lite power/fast action st croix SCIII blank. Purchased 5+ years ago for $150. I have mine paired with a Stradic 1000FH. If I were to buy the reel today I would go with the CI4 in the same size. There are board sponsors that could build you a great rod in your price range.
  2. The same thing happens on this site and all others that I have been to. "New rod/reel is amazing, so light and balanced. Much more sensitive then all my *insert previous favorite company here* rods. Best bang for your buck. Will purchase more. Cant wait to fish with it...." Then you get "rod broke on first cast, cant believe it. I emailed the company 5 minutes ago and no response. I wont purchase ever again. I will purchase something that matches my reel next time." Thats why I like this site. Even though posts like that still exist, there are enough people that participate on these forums to give you a good idea overall of just about anything.
  3. I have one and will probably purchase more. A little expensive but I have no complaints.
  4. ^^This^^ Couldn't agree more.
  5. Whatever shade of green my braid is at the time. If I'm river fishing I use http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Excel-Monofilament-Line-Jumbo-Spools/product/13308/-422427 in clear blue. It is a lot easier for me to see as it floats down the river.
  6. I'm not puckered at all. When you claim other people have motives and your sig and avatars clearly show yours, you bet ill call you on it. You dont think mocking something or someone is deragatory? "Showing a critical or disrespectful attitude" hmmmmmmmm....
  7. You would be one of the few pros that would not switch brands because one company offered to pay more. Won in a tournament or from a sponsor, money spends the same. When sombody asks a general question like "what reel is best for me" they normally get asked about its intended use , price range, etc....I guess we have you to thank for that.... How can you see through their motives? Im sure this will be usefull to all of us. If the advice here is free and like you say, "you get what you pay for", what use is this site? Im just trying to see through your motives. I never said you commented about the smoke, but read the thread, its there. You are right about one thing, it was my fault I bought the Quantum I spoke about earlier in this thread. I havent made the same mistake since. But hey, thats just my experience. Like you said it was "cash consuming" I guess I need the the special glasses you own to see thru all the bs. He did return it to the vendor and tried to exchange it. They all looked like his. He ended up getting his money back. You cant make it one day without mentioning of Shimano or its "possee" in some derogatory way. It made it into your avatar. It must eat at you that so many people use and are happy with their "blind purchases". I question your motives. EDIT: I no longer question your motives. "Unapologetically Abu!" "Shimanobot deprogrammer". You are very transparent.
  8. http://www.basspro.com/Gary-Yamamoto-Custom-Baits-Yama-Tubes/product/10200809/-1545357 Not that brand, normally whatever the local stores have in pearl/white.
  9. If I'm fishing for money there is no way on God's green Earth I want tackle that's got the potential to bind, break or otherwise screw up my chance of getting every fish that bites into my boat. Replacement after the fact does me no good after I lose a that could have won a tournament for me. The feeling of the masses? The same masses that blindly purchase Shimano because a tackle fan boy flash mob says so? Or Loomis? Or Ragetail? Or any of the other pet products on any given forum? In almost 40 years of serious bass fishing I've used a truck load of products, some good, some great, most average, very few terrible. You want the best recommendation for what's best for you? Take the time to research which reel, rod or bait will suit your needs. It can be time and cash consuming but in the end, you will have what you want and not what other people think is best for you. So you would trust a Pro that is paid to sell you something over your peers on this forum? Why do you bother posting on these forums? When you say "take the time to research", what are you refering to? If everyone here, and on other forums are blindly purchasing things and then recommending to others, where do you get your info? Id does a disservice to members here to say things like "The smoke is the best bang for your buck out there". Where is the proof? Years of people using them? You can get a great idea of which company and their products are better by reading on these forums. I find it odd that you would participate in a forum you believe is full of lies. I spent the money to do the research myself. Was very dissapointed and broke. All I had to show for it was sub par equipment. Then I found this place. Its the reason I share my experience, not because I'm getting paid to.
  10. Nothing you said was offensive. I think your experience with snowboarding is different because safety was involved. I am guessing bad bindings would be dangerous? I do not think it matters that much to the sponsored pros because if they are fishing and experience rod/reel failure they just grab another out of the storage compartment. Now if all pros were given 1 rod and reel to last them all season we could get a better feel for what the pros think are the best quality rods/reels. When a person is getting paid to promote/use something, I am skeptical of what they say. Id rather get a feel for what the masses think. Thats why this site is so usefull.
  11. You think he did that to his own reel? I dont see why its so hard to believe that every company has isolated issues like this. Just like your Curado. Do you think anyone would fish with with a reel that performs the way your Curado does? Yet tons of people continue to suggest it to others and spend their money on new ones. As far as pros using Quantums or any other company that sponsors them......they are paid to use those products. They also get them free and probably get them replaced regularly. You think a sponsored pro cares about the warranty? I do not have that luxury and I am sure a lot of people on this forum do not. We spend our hard earned money on something and want it to last. Having a proven track record matters to a lot of people that do not have the luxury of a sponsor.
  12. That is not true. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewtacklewarehouse.html
  13. not true.never happened to any pfueger i owned. Only problem with that , your experience might not be the same as everyone elses.
  14. Was just a link to a video did not think that would be a problem. Try that.
  15. http://www.***.com/Rod_Care_Maintenance__Storage_/catpage-RCMS.html Free shipping when you spend $50 http://www.another site/fishing-videos/rod-wrapping/
  16. http://www.***.com/Falcon_Rod_Sock/descpage-FRRS.html Mesh rod protectors do not seem like much protection to me.
  17. So where is the balance point on the dobyns that make people claim dobyns superior?
  18. That makes sense. Because a rod is not perfectly balanced to begin with, doesn't the weight of the real become a factor at that point?
  19. The goal is a balanced "combo", where the pivot point falls in the center of the reel. In reality though, most combos are tip heavy, and oddly enough, when we buy the lightest available reel we exacerbate top-heaviness. Roger. Thanks for the explanation. I understand the idea of a balanced combo. I was just wondering what people mean by a balanced rod, since they would all be tip heavy. I hear people claim a certain rod is tip heavy but, like you said, if you get the lightest rod and lightest reel how could it not be tip heavy? "I'm getting a Dobyns Champion 735c soon that is supposed to be exceptionally balanced" I do not get this at all. would it not depend on the reel he paired it with? With Dobyns, not necessarily. They're known for great balance. I'll either put a Citisaurus or a Zillion on it, so it shouldn't be a problem. I would like to know the balance point of Dobyns that makes it different than other rods. Care to enlighten me so I can compare them to other rods?

  21. Wouldn't a balanced rod be butt heavy once the reel is added? What are you people claiming a balanced rod is?
  22. Just purchased the two Cumulus rods I did not have. Now what will I spend my money on? :-/
