So my buddies and I are trying to plan a place to have our fantasy football draft next August. We usually go away for 2-3 days. I've suggested renting a lake house near Traverse City and most of the guys are pretty excited. I had a bit of an ulterior motive though, wanting to do some smallie fishing. Anyone know the best spots up there for smallies? The bay or inland lakes?

Hey guys. My friend and I have next weekend Friday-Sunday free and want to have a short fishing getaway. We are looking to go to a lake/river within 6 hours of Louisville (so in Tennessee, Northern Alabama/Georgia, maybe the Carolinas) but aren't sure where to go. You guys know of any places that are on fire right now? Big fish potential would be a bonus, but we mostly want to catch numbers, even if they're 2 pounders. We've tossed around Guntersville, Pickwick, Chickamauga, Holt and Bankhead. Any one got any updates on how those places are fishing now or anywhere else we should consider?

Make sure you are closing the bail manually instead of reeling right away so how do we prevent them? periodically taking the line off the spool and reel it back in?

Aww man, you let the secret out. A big football jig with a white spider grub works well for this.

Make sure you get amber lenses if you are wanting 1 good pair. There are different tints for different situations but I have found amber are the best all around.

I have always heard on cheaper crankbaits to switch out the factory hooks. Most crankbaits i lose very few fish but my favorite shallow cover, squarebill crank seems to cause me to lose a bunch. I have always been stubborn and not put in the effort to switch the hooks. I have decided to do the right thing and change em out. I think I am going to buy some Owner Stinger trebles but my question is, what size trebles do you guys like for cranking shallow wood and would you recommend another replacement treble hook?

I would not get the Ninja. I have never fished one but the reports of when Kota used it on Amistad said that fish tore them up pretty fast and for $20, I would want a more durable bait. Just my 2 cents.

Classic: Horton ill, withdraws (updated) 2/21/2009 Tim Horton withdrew form the Bassmaster Classic today after falling ill with a kidney stone. A BASS official issued the following statement: "Tim Horton withdrew from competition. He was not feeling well, and we wish him the best. It's not believed to be serious." another site spoke with Horton, who said: "I had a severe stomach flu and dehydration caused a kidney stone. It started at about 3:30 in the morning and my wife took me to the hospital. It's very frustrating, because I was looking forward to getting back out there today and trying to catch up." Update: Horton was released from the hospital at about 4 p.m. Saturday. He said he was feeling much better and should be fully recovered within a few days.

I am dying to get confirmation. Did Glenn actually SEE the laser lure in action. Either practice or competition or his he just blowing smoke. I love IKE but I realize he gets the marketing game. I could see him saying 1 thing and doing another to help the people who help him, but it seems to be truthful that he did use one.

Just because Ike didn't catch any fish on day 3 using the laser lure doesn't mean that he doesn't use the product. Pros fish the conditons, not fish their primary sponsors. I truely believe Ike thinks there are situations that the laser lure will outfish another crankbait. Also if you look at the pictures on Bassmaster.com from day 3 launch, tere is a a picture of Ike messing with a crankbait and it's hard to tell but it appears to be the exy shad knock off of the laser lure

Hey Glen, Did the topic of Laser Lure come up with Ike on Wednesday? I would love to know what he said about it off camera. Or was he throwing 1? Any input would be great.

For all those that doubt the laserlure, go to Bassmaster.com and read the article about boyd duckett, the guy leading the Classic. Find the 1 line in there about what he was doing today and tell me what it says.

If I had to pick just 1 it would be the Anaconda in green pumpkin and if I had to pick just 2 the next would be craw in green pumpkin and chartreuse. And if I had to pick just 3 then I would go with the shad in smokey shad or green pumpkin.
