  1. Well I just spent a arm and a leg and got a iPad. In fact I'm using it right now to type this. That's probably what I'm most impressed with. The typing works fantastic and I could not be happier in that respect. I've been wanting something highly portable and light weight but still having a ton of features. I was at first looking at getting a high end net book with a HD screen but the more I looked it seemed the iPad could offer everything I wanted but frankly at a price. For the longest time I couldn't see myself paying 5-700$ on something that didn't even have DVD or blu Ray. Then I thought about the fact that I hate the DVD drive on my older laptop. The thing eats up a ton of battery and always pops open and I never use it. All the video I watch is streaming on the web now. So net books and iPad overcame that hurdle. What was causing me to lean toward a net book over iPad though was price and flash. The ipad doesn't support flash and frankly that's just dumb! Steve jobs can say whatever he likes but it was all about ego and control IMHO. The iPad was also almost double of the net books in price so why did I get it? Well to start off I found out all the sites I wanted had a free video app and then hulu announced their new app. So I can get all the video content I want and don'need a huge hard drive. Btw the abc video player offers amazing HD for streaming video. Netflix is also amazing as well. This thing is multimedia machine! Second is the form and weight factor. I wanted to be able to take this device to work or anywhere and it not weigh me down. My laptop is just to big and heavy. Sure it has a great big screen but the boot ups take 4ever and it wasn't a very portable device. I played with some net books and was surprised by the weight of them. It kind of turned me off on them. The battery life is also awesome on the iPad. Something like 10 hours! All the apps are also amazing. I even set up a remote desktop to run my pc from my iPad. All the iBooks and ebook readers are also pretty amazing. I can see myself starting to use that. I also bet the newspapers love this thing. It seems like the iPad was made to save the newspaper industry. There are a ton of other things I love about this thing but i've went along long enough. I just hope hummingbird comes out with a side image app next! ;D ;D ;D
  2. I experienced that same issue I believe my first time with the Citica I upgraded. I was lucky in hat I had multiples of the reel. So I can always have another to examine if I'm having a issue. I always have to remind myself to slow down think it out and don't get frustrated. It's when I'm frustrated and rush stuff that I make a mistake. Personally I'd encourage any avid angler to learn to break down there reel and do the maintenance that it needs. I think you learn about the quality of the reels parts and you more apt to keep it n better shape then if you just paid a guy to do it Case and point one of my buddy hasn't ever broken down a reel and his Citica hadn't seen a drop of oil since he bought it probably. I encouraged him to at least drop some oil on that thing once every few trips. Even a quality reel will break down with out some attention paid to it.
  3. Well that depends on allot of factors. I had one with 8lb fluro and a 6ft rod for jerkbaits this spring and it threw some pretty light stuff with no problems.
  4. I have two and my dad has one and so far they have been great. When it's windy out they are my go to set ups.
  5. Well after all the hub ub about peoples carrots breaking on them it turns out it's my St Croix rods that have a breaking issue. I guess that's if you call what happened to me as a wide spread issue but I'm betting it's not. Last weekend I was out on KY Lake throwing a Bomber fat free shad when my 7ft MH mojo cranking rod snapped while loading for a cast. My thought was this sucks but at least it's under warrant and just 20$ plus shipping to fix it. Then just a few days latter my 6'6 M St Croix premiere glass rod breaks or rather splinters by the handle while casting. The rods have always been well taken care of and used well with in the lure rating. I was more in shock when the second one broke. Now I've got to send these guys in to be replaced and I just know St Croix is going to be looking at me funny. I hope they treat me right and I don't end up having to buy a couple more carrots!
  6. Went into a local tackle shop today with every intention of walking out with a Vendetta spinning rod for my dad. The poor guys been using a 20$ dicks special for his shacky heads! Anyway I went over to the rods and held the Vendetta in my hand but noticed they had some mojo's on sale for 75$. So I picked it up and compared the two. Both were 7ft meduim fast action. I was surprised that the so called top heavy mojo was flat out lighter and alot better balanced then the vendetta. So I walked out with a Mojo and plan to give it to him as a early fathers day gift tomorrow at KY lake.
  7. I would suggest some mono backing to prevent slippage. Chances are if your fishing around big fish with thick grass it's going to happen but mono backing IMHO helps.
  8. Glad it helped. Keep a close eye on it and if it starts to have problems again rather soon you might want to break it down again and clean the bearings out. You don't want to have a dirty reel or bearing and have oil provide a quick fix but end up causing a very long term problem.
  9. I only care about BASS and World's Greatest Fishing Show only because it is the Worlds Greatest Fishing Show. I'd rather have a full seasons of WGFS then Zona on Bass!
  10. The Curado's come with another pamphlet that has the schematics. However I believe Shimano's website also has them so you can download them. Sounds to me like you might have a dry bearing making some noise. I broke all my Curado's and Citica's down this year and while I dedicated a evening to it. I made sure to lay everything out in order to help the process. While it took some patients with the right tools it's not that had IMHO. However if you don't feel like doing it, Reelmech should be able to help you out. He has a site and lots of guys have nothing but good things to say about him.
  11. I haven't spent alot of times skipping but I used my spinning outfit with a fat ika yesterday and I skiped that baby a mile!! I would have been even happier if I could have caught a fish LOL!
  12. Ok so I got a local guy who is selling a 797C2 SI for 500$ or a 798SI threw strech pay with BPS for a 1000$. Do you guys think the 798 is worth the extra cash? I notice off the bat the 798 has a higher res at 640x640 vs 640x480 and it has slots for two memory cards.
  13. +1 Exactly Same here let the fish and conditions tell you how to fish it.
  14. When does the Rage Tail Lace come out Big O? I"m not sure stinky shoe or coffee scent would work better! HAHA ;D
  15. I could use some RAGE TAIL Thumper worms and some Luhr Jenson Hot lips for my KY lake trip June 5 and 6!
  16. For me I use braid on a spinning rod because it handles SOOO much better then mono or fluro. However most of the time I use a leader because I''m often in clear water conditions. When it's muddy I"ll go straight braid.
  17. It's topwater, the fish are not going to see your line. Why choose a fluoro coated mono for a topwater line when you don't need anything clear and the coating of fluoro is going to make it sink faster than regular mono (which isn't a good thing with topwaters)? Stick with a good 12lb or 14lb mono. Sufix Siege for a Baitcaster. Or Sufix Elite if you prefer a softer line. Clear or green, either will work. Like I said, with a topwater the fish are not going to see your line. Well somr of the rods that I use for top water also serve as cranking rods for me. So I need to worry about visiblity and thickness of the line. I have some Yuzuri Hybrid and honestly I'm not a huge fan of it. I've had some breakage issues with it and I don't like the memory in it. I was hoping for a line that's clearer then mono but still floats like it. How are some of the copolymer lines out there?
  18. Had a couple questions for you guys who are throwing fluro coated lines. Does it sink??? Right now all my crankbait/top water treble rods have fluro on it. Now that topwater season if FINALLY here I need to move to something that floats like mono. I fish at times some clear water and fluro helps with that. So I'm considering something like Fluroclear if it floats like mono, but I'm betting the coating causes it to sink. Any suggestions??? Also I don't want braid on these rods BTW.
  19. I agree in the long run this is the best option but I also understand I caught a TON of huge fish on frogs on a cheap Field and Stream set up for a summer. So I'm going to sugest you pick up a 7ft or longer MH to H Field and Stream Tech spech rod for 60$ and do a search for some dicks coupons (that's where these rods are sold). You might be able to find a 20% off Field and stream purchase coupon. I know I got one in the mail the other day. Then I strongle STONGLY suggest you look in the Flea market for Quality used real perferably in the 7.1 ratio. People here are always buying new stuff and selling there QUALITY old stuff. Keep an eye out for Citica's, Curado's, and Revo's and you would be in great shape. One last thing BUY SOME BRAID! In the long run it will save you a ton of cash and it help so much with the hookset on a frog.
  20. I'd say of the rods listed this would be my budget option rod. The mojo cranking rod is nice but the flipping models weigh a ton. I had a chance to play with a Vendetta and was very impressed with it for the price.
  21. Black and Blue Mop Jig with a Rage Lobster is killer at night.
  22. I totally looked at those pics first and saw that Rage tail and flipped out. I was like somebody stole Big O's design!
  23. Because my experience with my Gold beside the guide issue wasn't bad. Yeah I didn't like the guides but I loved everything else about it. IMHO the Gold was the lightest most sensitive rod I've held and that includes G Loomis IMX's. We all have what we like and I like the feel of the Carrots. Now I had held off for a period of time from buying another because of the issues I laid out. However they have all been answered to my satisfaction and the new Fuji Micro guides look like they will be fantastic and are exactly what I wanted. I mean in fact I had a great 7ft MH Rod in that price range that I'm probably going to sell because I prefer the Carrots.
  24. I don't like the guides on any of them except the Micro version. My flipping rods grooved up and so I had to replace the tip on my Gold flipping stix/ Beside that I love my CArrot Stix, but then again I don't have a cranking version.
  25. The spinning Vendetta I held had me impressed I must say. Also yes you can mount any reel you want on it. What they did was factor in the weight of the Revo when designing the rod. So if you get a reel heaver then a revo then it will move that balance point back further. While getting a light reel will more the balance point forward some. Personally I'd advise you save up and get a Citica 200E for it. They are a fantastic reel for the price!
