  1. The problem is that they are going to train it in a month or two. It's a federal refuge pond used for flood control. We had some bad flooding here in the midwest and they about hit disaster stage. So now they are going to drain the pond and rebuild the dam to a bigger size. The therory is the watter will drain into the near by Crab Orchard lake but I'm not so sure how many fish will make it. This pond has been built as a trophy body of water. The average fish I pull out is over 3lb and they are all FAT. That one in the last pick didn't even hit the 20 inch mark and yet he was over 5lbs!!!
  2. I've come to the conclusion that photos lie They can but I've caught enough 2lber to know what they look like. IMHO that fish is more like 1.5lbs. Now if he weighed it and it's 2 1/4 lb I believe the man but if he's guessing that's another story. It's bigger then anything I've ever caught on a fly rod though! The only reason some would say anything about the weight is how crazy some "quotes" of fish weights are. This year I bought a couple decent scales and a tape measure to get solid info. I now measure and weigh almost every fish over 2 lb. It's a neat extra hobby I like to do and I've learned allot about fish weight. Pics can be decieving but I think that fish is closer to 1.5lb then 2 1/4.
  3. When I read your post the first thing I did was check you location LOL.
  4. Well after being frustrated by the low hook up ratios of other frogs I bought a Rojas Spro frog and haven't looked back. I love these things ang I can't stop buying the different colors(I'm up to 3 in less then a week)!! Anyway here are some pics of this last week with the frog and some other cool pics.
  5. I bought some recently and while I wouldn't campare them to a MattLures swim bait I have caught some really nice fish on the sunfish model. You don't always have to have a $30 lure to catch fish. Right now in my area bass are gorging on sunfish/bluegill and the storm sunfish works great!
  6. Yeah I stocked up on that deal at dicks. I bought a couple for each depth range and I've caught nice fish on each range. BTW S I G M A I love your avatar ;D,
  7. I'm sure most places in NA are like that. Bluegill is a main source for food in my area as well. We often take my 9 year old nephew with us and set him up for blugill and he hammers them while we bass fish. As far as colors I was thinking of getting a black one as well. I have the "Natural Green" patterned frog and on the belly it has white and yellow with some black spots in it. They all look so pretty I don't know what to choose :'(. Rainforest Black looks good but I'm trying to figure out if some of these color patterns are meant to catch fisherman or fish ;D.
  8. I use them in moss with a 5/0 EWG GAMY hook and haven't lost a fish yet.
  9. I'm sure it won't take long for it to happened. I've got a couple great bodies of water that are perfect for frogs. I'm one of those guys who love top water and if I could I would fish it all day lol. I usually stay on top as long as I can and then go straight to a sexy shad crankbait. The spro frog just blew my mind on it's quality compared to other frogs I've used in the past. Now I'm just trying to decide what other colorers I should buy. ;D
  10. Yes I did but no longer!!! I switched my main baitcaster that is a 7ft HM rod to braid a few days ago. I used the Skum frog tournament edition and landed my first bass with the lure but still lost several others. I ended up lossing that frog and decided to see if I could find the Rojos Spro frog. I was lucky enough that one of our sporting goods stores has about evrey color you could want in the Rojos Spro frog. At 9$ a pop I bough just one to see what the hook up ratio would be. The first thing I did was trim the tail to get it to walk better and then set out to go fishing. After 2 hours with it I can tell you I may never buy another frog brand again. This thing has the greatest hook ups. I landed 3 fish in about 2 hours of fishing and the only time I didn't get the fish was when it just plain missed the frog. I was ;D because we were fishing at one of our favroit ponds (it's really a small lake) that produces huge fish. Were are usually alone but today we had several outher fisherman along the bank and they weren't catching crap. Then I think they about lost it when I went back and fished a area they had just went bye and landed this solid 19inch 3lb fish.
  11. Well I've put them to use on a couple outings to a very large pond (more like a small lake) and have had some nice fish with it. Here is a pic of one of them and they seem to slam them!! So far I'm very happy with them. The key seems to be to fish it iratically. I like to jerk it up and down left and right pause a few seconds then give it some speed. Don't just reel it in a machine like manor. BTW I just picked up some AWESOME looking 6 inch Wildeye swim shad on sale for $2.77 a pack at dicks. I'm serouis these things look amazing and can't wait to try them out! They even have the hologram thing going for fish scales and I can even see veins when I hold them up to the light!
  12. I've just recently went to fishing non buzz style frogs the last week or two. My results are 10-15 strikes on two trips and 0 fish!! I've been reading like crazy for tips and I've now turned my hooks up and added a trailer hook. My concern with a trailer hook is the added snags but if it gets to bad I'll thrown on a piece of a old senko texas style to lower snags. I've also trimmed my skirts some but does anybody else know any good tips?? My main frog I'm using is the Scum frog tournament edition. The other frog I have is the Snag Proof Moss Master Tournament Frog but I haven't used it yet.
  13. It's no go at my local Wal Mart. I hope others find them on special.
  14. I think this is a better representation of what the action would be in the water.
  15. Has anybody used these??? My local walmart sells them and crappie versions for just 4 bucks. Three come in each package and they are pre rigged. They certainly have a great paint job but I have no idea how well they swim.
  16. You do know a WW LB was caught out of Georgia right? So don't set your sites to low . Personally I plan on going with a hudelston trout swim bait at local lake that has some trout in it and possibly a blugill swim bait from matt lures for another lake. I plan to go after some monsters this fall after I save up the cash for the lures ;D. So check out matt lures for some swim baits.
  17. My fishing buddy loves to slow roll the single tail Hula grub and he gets great results with it. The only problem is he looses TONS of tails!!
  18. Then he just plain missed it and must have had the hook foul hook him for a second. I use the chug bug as my go to top water bait and I wait a full 2 seconds before setting the hook. I can count the times I've had the hook flying at me on one hand. The times it does is usually when the hook bends on me. I know many people replace the hooks on the chug bug for this reason.
  19. RW I've got a very similar set up as you when fishing the Fat IKa but I'm using Power Pro 20lb moss green braid. I've noticed in another thread you recommended using a leader for braid on even top water. Do you really feel braid is that visiable?? The 20lb braid I have is the diameter of a 6lb mono and it doesn't "look" that visiable to me. I haven't went to flurocarbon yet because of the talk about it being tough to cast and the high price. I picked up the braid only a couple weeks ago and it seems to be preforming well so far. I did a google on Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft and it seems to be some type of hybrid fluro/nylon line and it's certainly priced well. What draws you to it?
  20. I hear that it's rough! It's to bad gas isn't made from fish oil ;D.
  21. WOW if I fished where you do I'd never take off my chug bug ;D! So far this year I've had good numbers with crankbaits in the 10-15ft depth along flooded timber. I've also had some good numbers with senkos along shady rock drop offs.
  22. I landed the exact same size fish but possibly a tad skinner three days ago and it weighed in at 2lb 3oz.
  23. I bought a pack of these this week to try them out and they have found a new spot in my tackle box. I took them out a couple morning ago and they produced several fish and some big strikes. I made the mistake of starting out with a 2/0 or 3/0 hook and it was just too small. The first fish slammed it and I had him for 5 secs or so before he just plain come off the hook. I moved to a 5/0 and it provided the room for it to slide down the hook. I also LOVE the way it casts! I often call it the fish bomb. It just looks like a bomb falling from the sky and then the noise it makes is like a diver just sliding into the water. Does anybody know a good place to buy them online with a decent color selection?
  24. I love the Storm Chug Bug!! Mine is about the size of a Zara but it weighs more and I can cast it great. I'd say this is my #1 confidence lure! With that lure I know I can haul in numbers and big ones with it. That said I love the strikes on the ribbit frogs and my dad caught a 24inch+ on my Cavitron buzz bait.
  25. I use the Stanley frogs alot at a pond with tons of vegitation. In fact it got me this decent fish.
