  1. LM 7lbs on a Spro (Dean Rojas) frog!!
  2. I'm sure that isn't the first time KVD has cut a boat off either. ;D
  3. Smart alec Hey I had been watching a 27" so it feels like I'm wearing binoculars! With the sick kid I had to make sure it fit the budget so I kept it under $700 Ppphhhh and to think I spent over a hour on my post in this thread. :'( Well as long as your happy and at least plan on hooking up HD. Way to many people buying a 50inch HDTV and hooking it up with Red, White, Yellow.
  4. My Way-Frank
  5. I must protest where is Mark Zona??? Somebody who invents the phrase "Man Bear Pig" to descibe a bass must be on this list. Then again I am a young guy and the HD production is top notch. So maybe that's why I like it so much? I also love Dance and consider him part of the family.
  6. Daniel and myself worked it out via PM were good. I even invited him to go fishing at my honey hole. Unfortunately for him he's a busy guy and couldn't go but I caught two ~5lbers,.a 6lber, and my ffirst 7lber on my next two trips. So I plan to always invite him now . ;D BTW good idea to post the length because your right it's a very long fish compared to the 7lber I caught.
  7. I hate to post this for the fear of him seeing this but my dad is like this. The last time we were on a boat together he literally said "That should have been my fish!". I couldn't believe it and I remembered why I had actually stoped fishing for several years. I love my pops and I'm glad he is fishing again now that I started back up but there is a reason he doesn't get invited to go fishing on the boat very often. We go fishing at ponds all the time but there I can be half way on the other side of the pond from him ;D. While on the other hand my sisters boyfriend is GREAT to fish with. We respect each others space and are actually happy when the other catches a fish. We talk about whatever we want and discuss what spot we want to hit next. He also seems to prefer to have me to be up front running the trolling motor and you have to love that in a partner . While if I or both us take my dad fishing and he runs the trolling motor he positions the boat thinking about HIMSELF only. Maybe he just fished alone for to long or in tournaments to much when he was younger. >
  8. Well I'm not fishing this one. I'm not a member of the club because it's only for his university and I'm not a student there. I'm just the monday morning quaterback , but I guess I am part of the team considering my truck is toeing the boat!
  9. I bought some of the original Yu Zuri when I was at bass pro and it has bad memory problems. So is the "ultra soft" that much of a improvement?
  10. I like the way braid feels and if your not fishing clear water I'd use it. With that said light baits usually work best with light line. I've used the 20lb braid with a 6lb diameter on a baitcaster and I don't recommend it ;D (backlashes).
  11. My fishing buddy is going to be fishing in his first tournament tomorrow and I'm trying to think what this cold front and rain will do to the fish. It's just a one day tournament for his local university club but I know he's excited about it. The lake he fishes has a power plant on it and it's usually a little warmer then other local lakes. Local lake temps have been about 79-81 around my neck but we just had a cold front come threw with temps being in the low 60s for most of the day with the highs being 75 or so. The rain has pasted and the high tomorrow is going to be 79 or so with clear skies. I'll be honest in saying I'm not sure what this cold front has done just not enough experience to know. What I do know is fishing was usually awful at one of my local ponds after a big storm this summer. The only think that worked was putting up my frog and getting out a worm and punching thew the grass mat. But he isn't fishing my pond lol and this storm was calm 2 day set of rainstorms not thunderstorms. I'm sure the water temps have drooped up they are dropping into a more comfortable temp range for bass. His plan was throwing a frog plus red rattle traps around docks and grass. Now I'm wondering if he shouldn't slow it down and throw some ***/fat ikas around the docks. I also wonder if he shouldn't throw something in the chrome color because it's suppose to be bright and clear skies. He's using the red "red eye" strike king rattle trap lure because a local friend said he won a tournament on this lake with it earlier this year. The other thing is my gut also tells me topwater would be slow early with temp being in the high 50s tonight. How would you guys approach this situation and no neither he nor I have ever fished this lake ;D. So expectations aren't high for victory just a boat load of fun for him and me talking his ear off with ideas. ;D BTW the weather lady just said it is suppose to be fogy in the morning. So maybe red wouldn't be so bad to start out with.
  12. Don't they also have the longest running yard sell around this time as well??
  13. I'd say maybe 2lbs but I bet this thread is going to be moved shortly.
  14. Thanks for all the great words guys it means allot. I'm starting to hear one of the local bass clubs is trying to organize something to get the bigger fish out. I'm going to try and get in touch with them and see if I can't volunteer my time to help in whatever fashion they might need. So it's great we can get some of these hogs out for sure and I guess the plus side is Crab Orchard lake should recieve a shot of good Bass genes. The bad side is obvouisly this pond has the perfect conditions to produce monster bass and even after being refilled and stocked it may never get back to this. Meanwhile I'm goint to fish it until my thumb falls off!
  15. That water can feel great on a hot summer day can't it?
  16. Dude I must be on a Lake Fork quality school!!! Today my nephew gets to spend the night so after he finished his homework I took him to my honey hole with the plan on getting him his first quality bass. I usually fish in the morning but was just to tired this morning so it worked out great with taking him this evening. When we got there somebody was there fishing (shockingly) and I saw three trails for fish in a spot that used to produce well for me, but as of late had slowed. I looked down the trail and see him where I landed yesterdays haul. My nephew and I worked our way down the trail with no bites and we stoped at a location that I use as a meet point and gear drop off. I was very focused on helping my nephew today, and I was trying to help him cast and plain just not hook himself sometimes (I'm sure we have all been there with young ones). Then the gentelmen starts walking back to the location he caught the other fish. He stoped and said hi and he showed my nephew his bass that he'd caught. I told him about the draining of the pond and he was shocked as well. We went our seperate ways and to myself I'm thanking the lord he has left this spot with only fishing a buzz bait there. Not to mention see the bass busting up about 15 yds north of his former location. So I went over to the spot I caight the fish yesterday and threw 3 casts and couldn't stand to stay there any longer because pf the action 15yds north of my location. So I have my nephew come and take my spot and I top him throw at these spots with that buzz frog over and over again. I made my way to a spot that with a VERY VERY long cast (thank god for braid) that allowed me to reach to where the action was and get 6-7 yds of open watter until it hit the moss mat. It took one cast I repeat one cast and I saw a small little splash and after a 2-3 second count I set the hook. The fish was a tank and I just started running backwards because I just plain had to so I could get it on top of the mat. I get him in and I'm yelling at my nephew bring the CAMERA it's a big one. Then the next thing I know the gentelmen from before comes on over to the fish as well . Who I then refered to this this site of course. Then the only problem came when the camera was foggind up due to high humidity. So I did put the fish on a stringer (not threw the gills) with the hope of taking more pics. I would have never done this but they are DRAINING it I keep telling myself. Plus my nephew doesn't seem to understand the catch and release idea yet. So here are the photos of this one. After this guy I took my nephew right to a point that was 15 yds further north that I thought might allow him to be able to work with his spining reel (with braid). He just couldn't cast far enough and that's my fault because it wasn't spooled up all the way. After some time passes I keep seeing fish blow up at the same spot i was just at. I then put on one of my other spro fogs on his rod and tell him to throw it as far as he can and bounce the rod tip up and down to get some action. I was REALLY hopeful he'd land something and I worked hard trying to get it set up for him. I finally couldn't stand it any longer and went back to that spot that only my long casts could reach and on the very first cast back at that spot I had another small splash. The light was low and I looked reel hard for my frog because I thought me missed if and I didn't want to yank it away and miss a follow up strike. Then I FEEL the fish and set the hook hard!! I did the same routine running up the hill and landed this puppy!! Then the great hope I had and part of the reason I went ahead put the other on stringer (again not in the gills). So wow it's been a great two days and now my right hand is killing me!! BTW the first fish was just over 6lbs and the second fish is going to be called a 7lber by me. I have a 50lb analog scale (my friend and I share a digital in his boat) and it's hard to get a great read on. The right most part of the dial was hitting 7lbs and after measurements I had taken the weight caculator here said it was a little over 7lbs. So I'm happy and now I just need somebody to hold my fish for me the next couple weeks any volunterrs??? ;D ;D
  17. This is a great tip I don't know many times I've had this work!
  18. IMHO buzz style frogs catch more fish and the Spro "Rojas" style catch bigger fish.
  19. I'll have to have my six year old niece hold up all those 10lbers I catch. ;D
  20. I hate to tell somebody this but I'm sure that fish is more in the low 4 or if your lucky maybe 5lbs. The one in my avatar was 5 for some perspective on size. Did you by chance measure him? Either way that's a great fish to be proud of!!
  21. I know some people like even a stiffer rod, but so far I've been very happy with it. I steped up from a meduim 6ft rod so this was a big change. I just picked up a free 6 1/2 m rod from dicks because of their specal on reels right now. So can't see buying a 7ft H rod until I feel like I really need it. When I need more leverage on a big fish at this pond I literally just walk backwards LOL. I know I've convinced my dad a old time nothing but mono guy to make the move over to braid. I feel for him because he doesn't have anything in the 7ft range for power and he's still been fishing with a frog on mono.
  22. I'm using 40lb Power Pro braid with a 7ft MH rod that I'm sure would break before my line does. That's as long as I don't have a frayed spot in the line.
  23. How about we take a awesome 9.9 and Just cruise up and down KY lake ? ;D
  24. With a crank snag simply move the boat over the crank or on the other side of the snagged crank. I usually won't throw a crank from land. The exception to that is a Rat L Trap.
