  1. You laugh but I've weighed many a big Crappies while Bass fishing. My big Crappie is a little over two pounds this year,
  2. So I'm a little PO'd right now. I bought a nice Terminator Spinnerbait today with a hard to find Indiana blade and I loved it. I got a hook up pretty fast and caught a nice 3 pound bass. I go to un hook the fish and I look at the spinnerbait and the darn blade is gone! I couldn't believe it. I had the thing on less then 20 min and after only one fish it lost it's blade. I plan on calling them or emailing them but I didn't know if anybody else had these issue with them. What got me even more mad is I really liked the Spinnerbait before this and it was the only Indiana blade I could find.
  3. IMHO all the advise you got was straight on. We all have opinions and I'd agree with what you were told. Many people don't like Fluro on Spinning gear because memory issues. So many people have gone to braid because of it's no memory and low stretch with a fluro leader. The leader gives you the added benefit of the line not being very visable without the downfall of fluro on a spinning reel. As far as invisx it's my favorite Fluro out there. I think it has less memory then any other Fluro out there. I personally don't like Yozuri much but I've never been able to get my hands on the soft version.
  4. As far as the Carrot goes. like many owners I love mine. I've had no issues with it and I use the 7'8 heavy gold. It's strong and sensitive and I love the form factor of it with my citica E. I'm not a big fan of the guides they use but I don't think it's cost me any fish or anything. I had the chance to use a IMX the other day and it was the only rod I've ever felt that compared to my Gold. I'd probably give the IMX a 10 and the Carrot gold a 9 but they were different lengths and different line. So I can't judge 100% for sure what I would think is more sensitive. I understand why many have backed away from Carrots on here after what Duckett said, but we don't know the full story IMHO yet. So as long as E21 keeps up with there lifetime warranty I'm happy.
  5. I usually fish four or five times a week most of the fishing season.
  6. BTW bass wrangler569 I can tell you from experience it can be tough being the co angler. I'd say if you feel he's struggling get him on the same pattern as you but maybe with a smaller bait. I often find success with a smaller bait fishing behind my Pops. The old man is not a big fan of being in the back of the boat and since I grew up fishing that way it doesn't bother me all that much. There are days when I get flat whacked simply because he gets first dibs on everything. Then there are days I figure out what they want and he hasn't. Only for him to realize I'm whacking him and so he checks what lure I have on and copies it LOL. Some partner huh! ;D So just remember it's not always easy being in the back of the boat.
  7. My friend lost his in a minnow bucket once! ;D ;D
  8. Ya you should spool up some braid and throw a spro frog around. The Spro popper might be a good choice if you want some extra noise to get attention. I'd also suggest getting a heavy weight and toss around a sweet beaver some. Depending on the pond and the type of grass density there is a VERY good chance they are stacked up in there and you need to punch thew to get to them. Also if the entire pond is covered instead of just covering the pond right away with casts. Take a few minutes and observe the pond. Try to figure out where it might be deepest. Do you see any feeder creeks that could attract fish or provide them with a depth change? Maybe a weed line makes a point or a couple holes in a otherwise covered pond. Anything that's different that could draw fish to it. I'm sure you'll start caching fish soon but there is one thing you have to get used to. YOUR GOING TO BE PULLING OFF WEEDS!! Get used to it and keep at it. Ponds with allot weeds provide a great buffet line for Bass.
  9. You kidding, I gota keep my old buddy Big-O employed. I shout Rage Tail from the mountain top as if I'm sponsored LOL. I'm know this isn't the smartest thing to do but the Bassresource spirit of sharing knowledge is tough to turn off.
  10. I better listen to this guys he was just featured in my Bass Master mag. ;D Congrats Brokeju and I'll also read up on the Dobyns.
  11. Well if I'm not mistaken spotted bass tend to school up more then LM and usually prefer cooler water. I'd also suggest feeling for a rough spot on the tongue and if you feel one I believe you got a spot. BTW there are many types of bass not just two.
  12. I'd kill to be able to use a float tube! We have some seriously great ponds around here in a wildlife refuge. Some of them are very remote and you have to whack your way threw some thick stuff to get around the ponds. I'd kill to be able to use a float tube but they don't allow any flotation devices. Swilly78 that sure looks like some serouis fun right there. I guess you could drop shot with the line hooked to your toes. ;D

    New PB!!!

I hope so cuz I am headed right back to it tomorrow in my boat. I was with a friend today but there is a launch ramp close by so I can make a short run to it with my boat. I only have a trolling motor. I'll bring my 9.9 to Texas for a couple days if you provide the lodging! ;D BTW Nice fish!
  14. Hmm it is resized 800x600 I think. My browser usually formats the page so I don't scroll to have to read. I only scroll to see a small portion of the picture. Are you saying you having to scroll to read as well? Update I went ahead and changed it to 640x480 for ya.
  15. Ok do I've finally decided it's time to upgrade my pitiful spinning rod. So of course I'm planing to use this for light weight techniques mainly shacky head, tubes/light jigs, and senkos. I'm trying to get the most sensitive rod I can and also have good ergonomics. I have a Berkley Amp spinning that's been holding me over and I just hate the fact it basically has no grip. I'm just holding the blank which works great for me on my baitcasting Gold Carrot Stix, but on the amp after a time it's just painful. So I'm not really considering the Gold spinning rod simply because of this. Otherwise I've been so happy with the Carrots I'd get another. Here are the Rods I'm conidering any feedback about sensitivity and conmfort of these rods from users would be great. Cumara Spinning Rod 7'2" Medium list price $220 Powell Max Spinning Rod 7' Medium list price $140 St. Tournament Spin Rod 7' Medium list price $210 G. Loomis Spin Jig GL3 842 7' Medium list price $215 G. Loomis Shakyhead Spinning 6'10" Mag-Med list price $235 (getting out of my price range here). Right now I'm leaning toward one of the first two.
  16. So I get a call Friday afternoon from a member of my bass club. I fished a club event with him last year and he asked if I wanted to go fishing in like a hour. I told him sure and an hour latter I went and met up with him at the boat ramp. I jump out greeted him and asked where he wanted me to set my rods. He looks at me funny and says "Your not who I thought I called". I didn't understand because he called me by my first name. He told me he knew another person with the same first name. I told him ok but do you want to fish with me (It's past 5pm with only a couple hours of light). He actually has the gaul to wait a couple seconds and tell me ok as long as I didn't share his spots with anybody. So we set out and ran all the way across the lake. We go bye another boat ramp and there is like 15 boats lined up. I turn to him and say "It looks they are having a tourney or something.". He responds "Ya that's what we're doing 6pm until midnight. Didn't I tell you?". I looked at him with my mouth wide open and told him "No!". He paid my way but I think he'd like me to pay him back and I offered to give him some cash at our next club event. He didn't say anything like "No problem, I invited you and I didn't even tell you it was a tourney. So I got this one." or any other response I would said in his situation. We wait around to 6pm and take off. I was actually eager to fish with him since I fished my first tourney with him and knew I had improved a great deal in the style if fishing he likes. I asked what it usually takes to win this tourney. He told my usually 10lbs or 11lbs wins it. I was shocked until I remembered the crazy slot on this lake. For this tourneys sake as a boat you can have 2 fish over 18inches and two fish between 12 and 14inches. Usually this lake lets you keep a crap load under 14 but for this tourney they also had to be over 12inches. Leaving a crazy slot for your 2 unders! Well we got to his first spot and we tried to locate his first brush pile in 15-20ft of watter. He's got his big worm on and that's all this guy ever throws. The dude puts a hat over his worms to hide them as if everybody doesn't already know what he's throwing LOL. I started out with my new SK Thumper worm but switched to a finesse jig with a rage craw to catch a few fish a break the ice. It wasn't but a couple casts later and I hauled in my first small 11'1/2 inch fish. I catch another that size at that spot and release it too. He doesn't have any bites and we move to another location. Here we are fishing a deep break and after a few minutes I hook up with another small one. This time it barely hits 12 inches. He tells me if it's that close just release it. This was a mistake and I regretted it as soon as I let go. After neither of us have any more bites we move on. The sun sets and the moon comes out in all it's glory. The bad news was so did the mosquitoes. We put on the bug spray and kept at it. The next spot was of course deep but I can't tell you to much because I couldn't see a thing despite the moon. I finally located a ditch that had some rocks while my partner focused on the point I could make out. By this time I had switched over to a Mop Jig with a Rage Lobster to offer a big presence. This combo paid off!! I get a good thumb in the rocks and hauled as much line as I could on the hookset. A few seconds later and we have our first over at 20inches! I felt allot better to have a keeper in the live well and to be showing this guy who didn't mean to invite me that he was lucky he did ;D! Then disaster struck. I was fishing the same spot after a re dip of some JJ's Magic. My partner then casts at a backward angle and appears to have crossed my line. Well I'm the guest and non boater so I decide to quickly reel in and get out of his way. Well right away it felt heavy and I was saying to myself crap we're already tangled. I kept reeling and it gets heavier. I say I think are lines are crossed. He doesn't respond at all. It gets worse and I say "Ah man I think were tangled really bad!". He finally said to me "No I got my line right here we're not tangled. I thought to myself "OH SH**!" and said "Then I got a fish!". Right then the fish wakes up and finally knows he's hooked. She runs fast for deep watter and goes under the boat. I was unfamiliar with his boat and didn't know if I could around the motor or not and it all happened so fast. My partner was down by me with the net and my 7'8 heavy Carrot Stix was bent over like it was going to launch a arrow a 1000 yards. I was even cursing Boyd Ducket for making me worry my rod might break lol. Mentally I was freaking out because I knew I didn't have a good hook in her but it WAS HOLDING! I had reeled and reeled in line and still she wasn't up but I knew I only had a few feet more. Then POP I felt the jig come out and it shot out of the water with less the three feet of line left. I was serouisly bummed because I knew that fish was at least over 6lbs IMHO. I wished I had gone to the other side of the boat despite my worries of getting around the motor and a different angle possibly causing the hook to come out. What do you guys do in this situation do you try to set the hook again? I was psyched and bummed at the same time after that fish. We left the area to let it cool down and he asked what jig I had. I told him and he asked if he could borrow one. I told him sure but I didn't have it in the same color (I didn't). He told ok then that's alright. I offered to let him use one of my other jig in the same color, he told me no thanks. Well we went fish less after that for some time. Then finally with about 45 min to weigh in he gets on the board. He set the hook on a good fish and I grabbed the net and shot up the boat. He kept saying keep the net in the boat until it's close. Mentally I was saying to myself "I know how to net a fish!". Right about then I go to net it and I'm freaking hung on one if his reels. He has his rod holder set up where his buts point to the co anger across the deck. This opposite of how I do it and I expect most others. At this point I cursed the darkness, the rods, and my partner for not mounting his rods like a normal person. Most of all I was cursing myself for being such a moron. All this happened in less then a second and then I yelled "**** IT! I'll LIP HER!". I stretch out over the boat and reach out and grabbed that girl like a teenager does his meat! She turned out to be another nice 20 inch fish. He told me he would have killed me if I had lost that fish. I told him I would have went swimming for that fish before I lost her. He goes on to tell me that happened to so and so as well. I hope he realizes now that might not be the best set up for his rods, but oh well we got the fish. After that I switched back to my smaller jig in hopes of getting some other small fish. We only had a little time now before weigh in. We ran to a beaver pile and with 10 mins left I get a bite and set the hook. The fish felt decent but not huge. I was excited because that was the size we needed and then it jumped and threw the jig. At this point I was ticked LOL. Time runes out and we couldn't get any 12-14inch fish. Our bag ended up weighing a little over 9lbs and it took 11lbs to win. Like most anglers I can't help play the coulda, woulda, shoulda game. Heck I even had a half eaten thumper worm and two rage craw trailers eaten coming off hooksets. Who knows what those fish would have been. All and all it was a good time and thanked my partner for the unintentional invite. I told him I loved to do it again but maybe next time let me know if it's a 6 hour midnight tourney ;D! I know it probably seemed like I was complaining about the guy but I do like him more then most do. He's got a bad rap in the club because he can be a ***. He often cuts people off, doesn't always slow down by a fellow angler when he's running ect. He even left a note on a fellow club members window because he had parked in a handicaed spot. Turned out the guy is legally allowed to and after things got blown out of proportion the other guy left the club. Despite all this he's a pretty good guy to fish with as long as you don't mind his quirks and I love being shown all the deep brush piles! ;D Any way I didn't mean for this to go on so long. Here is a pick of our fish.
  17. Thanks for all the responses guys! Weeds are just about everywhere and I had planned to fish it there on calm days. We also have a crap ton of shad schools around here that the bass are just busting like crazy. I had planned to use the Fluke to slowly fall threw the school and hopefully get nailed but I noticed it just floated or became suspending.

    RoadWarrior

I think I saw him unplugging your charger too! ;D You got to love RW, he loves his booze and hates undercooked chicken! I swear I also think I saw him eating a fat ika and I asked what are you doing. He told me "The bass seem to think there twinkies and so I thought I'd try one.".
  19. My thoughts and Prayers go out to you and your family FrogTog.
  20. I live just down the road from Rend and it can be a great lake. With that said it's mostly a very shallow muddy lake that is great for buzzbait's (it was invented on this lake), Spinnerbaits, Bagley B's, and pitchin and flipping. This lake was made by damming up a lowland that the Big MUDDY River flowed into. It also has some MONSTER Catfish in it! So I'd tend to say they may have just been in there normal hang outs considering the water color and the average depth of the lake. With that said the weather has been crazy and I'm certainly seeing a Fall fishing pattern now with this crazy cold front weather and no doubt the days are alot shorter! BTW Rend Lake also claimed a life of a angler a couple weeks ago. He was fishing a buddy tourney and they went to run back to the weigh in station. He was bending down and strapping in his rods when he had a heat stroke and fell off the boat unconscious. His co angler heard the splash and he jumped in to to get him. The problem was the guy who fell in didn't have a life jacket or a auto inflate one. The other guy did and when he jumped in his went off and he couldn't get to the other anger who sank right to the bottom.
  21. Nice review FiveBaddlimit!!
  22. I wouldn't want to blame it on the bait yet. Maybe one lure but most of the others should be good. No doubt I always try to buy the ones in the clam shell though. The Rage shad is a great but frustrating bait IMHO. I now usually use the owner twist lock hook with the shad but I still often have issues. It's often caused by the small stretch that is caused by skin hooking it. I fish allot grass and I just have to bury the hook or else I'm hauling in crap 90% of the time. Personally I like the Rage frog more. It puts out TONS of noise and splash but it runs better IMHO. Plus is seems to come threw grass better. The Rage Shad seems to often hook it tail around a reed or Lilly pad stem.
  23. Ok so I'm new to fluke fishing and finally was able to pick up some of the Elaztech Flukes. PitchnKid had some at KY when I fished with him and I was impressed by the action of the bait. I love walk the dog baits and was he able to walk it most of the time. I went out for a couple hours and threw it some on spinning and then bait casting gear and I'm able to walk it some but my problem seems to be ZERO sink with the lure. Should I consider using a slightly weighted keel hook? Any tips on the bait would be great and please don't just link to the fishing articles section LOL! Believe me I will be reading any and all I can find on the topic.
  24. I've tested out allot of jigs and prefer finesse jigs because I often fish clear water. When I'm able to go to a full skirted jig my favroit is usually the Revenge jigs. I like the hook, the color schemes are great, it has a recessed line tie, and it comes with rattles. These all add up to plenty of fish in my boat. With that said I'm always trying new stuff but when it's time for a tourney a Revenge jig is close by. Tackle Wharehouse has a good supply of them in tons of colors.
  25. I'm a tivo nut. I've had several since like 2000. Tivo did have a special for on the website for $199 but there will be a montly fee. It also will let you record two channels at a time. Although I'd sugest getting ATSC tuner for you PC if price is the main concern. Windows provides guide data for free to set up recordings and it also lets you pause live TV extra, By the way in case you didn't know a ATSC tuner is the new over the air standard. You can buy some internal or external as well and then just use you PC HD to store the shows. I'm not sure what your set up but my PC is hooked up to my TV but even if you don't connected you can use a Xbox 360 to stream the shows to it if you have one. Send me PM if you have any questions on the subject,
