  1. Change baits, change colors, change presentations till you get action. change the speed of your presentations. Add a pause. my favorite presentation topwater is the one, two, three rip n pause. Do even rips, exactly even. Vary your pause on different casts. i have seven cats, predators like bass. Take a string and play with them. One won’t play right away but if I pause it he will attack. Another one will jump on it right away. Others take two or three casts of the string to get action. Bass are no different. A slower presentation speed wise is better than going fast. We tend to try to cover more water by going faster. now don’t fan cast next to your last cast. SKip fan cast. So your not spooking the fish. read every article here, watch every video here. Time spent on the water will improve your skills. Go out and practice with different baits and presentations.
  2. I wear those one piece red long johns with the trap door on the rear. Then heavy winter woolen socks, camo tee shirt with long sleeves. Next jeans with a sweat shirt. Next a full camo one piece insulated suit. Or a camo insulated bib and jacket. At least 1,000 gram thinsulate boots. Uncle Georges Quote. If your too hot you can always take it off but you can’t add anything on once your out. i purchased all my insulated hunting gear on sale.
  3. Red and black colored skirt on jigs, spinnerbaits. Red is a hot color here. Red with a orange bottom, with a black back for crankbaits. Senko s in a reddish color or a amber color with flakes. redapple bomber crankbait model A or FAT A in ponds, lakes etc. in rivers the crawfish color changes to a tan color.
  4. I always checkout my local mom and pop bait shop for clearances. They have a section of older, some dusty marked down baits. I sometimes drop $50 on the older baits. The problem is to me that some of this stuff is collectable sooner or later. Do I use it or stash it away? i been collecting early plastic baits too. There not refined like the baits of today.
  5. My three hottest baits that probably caught most of my bass are. 1. REBEL BIG CLAW crawfish crankbait, dives to 10’ / floats too. In chartruse color. 2. BPS TOPNOCKER COLOR 25 chartruse. 3. Bomber crankbaits, fat A / model A size o5 in red apple craw. all the other baits and colors catch bass too but I probably stay with what works more often and constant. My time fishing is limited because of my health. I have to gun and run sort of speak.
  6. My hottest color in senko type baits has either gold or red glitter. In worms it’s the opposite the two tone Shad colors or solid black, reds work. I think it’s a toss up what works to the water condition and the sunlite too.
  7. Prayers sent.
  8. This is my never ending story from hardbaits/topwaterbaits. The bps topnocker was still is the hottest topwater bait I ever used. I could have anyone catching bass in five minutes. Bps discontinued it. The bps stik o worm in amber red flake. Again a great affordable fish catcher. Bps never restocks this color. i hate it when a great fish catching bait is discontinued. Now when I find a bait that works so great I buy enough to fill a box up. My kids will never run out in their lifetime. fact, I’m a shore fisherman and these baits make me look like a pro. They see what I’m using and the next day they show up with new baits, rods and reels plus new tackleboxes. I’m a in the field salesman for fishing tackle. I love it when they mimic my tackle and they catch fish too. They I passed the torch. I like to see others catch fish too. I always stop fishing to help kids. Then I know this sport will survive for many future generations.
  9. Just $50? I need another Plano 9606 tackle box for topwater wake and prop baits. Need to scale back and carry less but it’s not working.
  10. My thoughts are I was fishing everyday for months. Wearing polarized glasses while I’m fishing. I fish manmade dams were droppoffs are. While my pb is 10# I have seen bigger bass swim by me. These bigger gals appear like ghosts then there gone. I lost a few I poked too. My thoughts are if we have bigger bass here in ct then every body of water to the north and south must hold bigger bass. It’s impossible to target bigger bass. But stay going and being constant should pay off. I was just bass fishing having fun. I didn’t care about the size. Once I left the crowds fishing in the evenings and fished in the early mornings when it was quiet the bigger gals show up.
  11. I was told the north end of the body of water warms up first because it gets the suns heat first, the suns heat longer. Now where are your spawning beds located. One of my local spots had a low water level. And the beds were located in the north end, small body of water. on the coldest of nights my 7 cats have circled their wagons around my Woodstove. Predators are drawn to the heat. Or warmth. Cats are very similar to bass in their actions. Lol that’s all I’m going to say about that.......he....he.... All I’m going to say is in the spring while the rest of the body of water is cooler the north end warms up first.
  12. I started off with senko, then used the bps stik o worms as close to the senko color as I could get, both worms wacky rigged on a c rig worked great. The reddish color or amber red color worked great here. Maybe I get hung up on one brand or color for too long. I tend to stay with what color works.
  13. My son purchased my misses a straw broom from Salem,Mass when they went there for Halloween. She stood it up leaning on the kitchen counter and she went in the basement. I was sitting at the kitchen table when the broom when across the kitchen and fell on the floor by itself. This is funny. I adopted three black feral kittens. There grown now and finally there freindly. The misses walks the dog every morning before she goes to work. What ever black cat is outside they follow her and walk with her and the dog. My neighbors and passerby’s in cars stop and tell the misses she has black cats following her? I just laugh they probably think my misses is a witch. I told her to take the straw broom with her to get them thinking that even more. I think the neighbors are afraid to talk to the misses. Again I just laugh. The moon does effect the bass fishing. There’s a Infisherman tv show about catching trophy size fish during the full moon phases. The ice here is early and as thin as Saran Wrap, it’s going to be a long winter in the northeast. Lol
  14. Glad it turned out ok. i had a 79 Chevy c20 with a rack body. They wouldn’t steal it they would probably leave money on the seat for me to replace it. Lol I sold it for $250 for parts.
  15. Enjoy your holidays. It’s the best time of the year, bill
  16. We clean the dryer pipe every year, the dryer too. The dryer can be a treasure trove of coins... one year we hit $11.
  17. Funny how these guys are when the pressure is off. Good people of this sport. i think we’re all wackos going after that little fish trying to out smart it. Most of the time it wins think about we spend so much on tackle and electronics to hunt it down and to fool it, the fish has nothing and wins.
  18. I mind my own business. but I do stop to help kids out. I share knowledge and my scents. They are the future of this sport. i keep my tacklebox closed. Less eyes, less words spoken. I never make fun of someone’s tackle. its me against the fish. Not the a hole near me saying I got another one(bluegill) if I wanted bluegills I’d fish for them. I find when they look in your tackle box it’s game on to out fish you to be little you. There using worms and catching pan fish not bass. I fish from shore. I will not go to their level and show them my bass. There’s another reason I switched from evening fishing to early morning fishing. The wildlife I can put up with even the bears are more civil. I usually don’t rant. Bill
  19. Hooking a smallmouth is like having a 5lb bluegill on the line what a fight. A pickerel is more intense depending on the size but it darts and makes more runs. A LMB fights but not as violent. But there are lazy LMB and active LMB too. I can pretty much tell whats on my line before I see it.
  20. I use the rebel BIGCLAW crawfish crankbait that dives 10’ everywhere. In chartreuse. It works everywhere here. Even in the rivers were the crawfish are a light brown. Normally in the ponds I fish the crawfish are red sides with black backs. I’m not sure about the habits nor life of crawfish about them changing colors when they shed their shells. But chartreuse works, I use the d74 rebel craw, cast it out I do a sweep back on the rod to make it dive them reel it slowly. Or let it float and twitch it. i purchased mister twister craws on sale I save them for rivers.
  21. We hunted deer and Blackbear, with some bird hunting inbetween, for many decades. Well since 1974. I’m a heck of a cook too. We had roast beef wraps in out stands for lunch, pastrami rubins for supper, sausage, egg, cheese on muffins for breakfast. Example, the wives said we went hunting to eat. We ate good, hunted hard, slept great. It’s the good times we remember forever. i invited my neighbors for a pastrami Rubin lunch on opening day once. After that it was lunch on every opening day ever since.
  22. Cornbread with chili yup good eating. we italians had a dish we cooked cornbread and poured a meat tomato sauce over it. The old people made this many times(mom).
  23. Catch a live small blue gill and send him out there.
  24. I use a weighted jig head with a worm rattle on my 10” & 12” worms.
  25. I would go on vacation to Maine just to shop at the Kittery Trading Post. Awesome adventure shopping there. Awesome fishing department and gun department. Plan on spending a day there. The place across the street is good to eat at too. checkout the dragon flies in the fly fishing area.
