  1. I used the Wal-Mart FLW Chunk trailers. The uncle Josh pork trailers I split them in the middle. I use the mister twister 4" split double tail grub trailer on my spinnerbaits. They work awesome. I haven't tried them on anything else. Optimum baits has a grub similar to the MT grub but it's a tad larger. I bought some but been thinking about trimming the body to fit a jig or Buzzbait. Sorry but I been switching from pork to plastics the white pork turns brown.
  2. My normal fishing season starts in the spring fishing every morning up at 3:30am for over three months straight till I get burned out. It's fish, eat, shower, sleep, repeat. Bed by 8pm. When I became sick I stopped. Once your in the groove it's easy. But many of mornings I dragged myself out of bed at first. Being retired it becomes an addiction every morning. Grab that first cup of coffee on the way with a doughnut or bagel.
  3. What do the bass in the colder climates do in the winter? Do they stay suspended? Sleep? Bury in the mud? I don't know the winter cycle of bass. My point is we see ice fishing for pike, perch, panfishing but never ice fishing for bass? Is ice fishing for bass more rare. All the bass don't migrate south for the winter, lol.
  4. When you get older and fish less you will feel it in your shoulders and neck more. It's like hitting the gym after some time off.
  5. You never know I would of bet my life I'd never catch a PB of 10lbs too. It was never a thought. It was kind of a curse. Then I seen bigger bass and lost a few bigger ones too. If you watch the bass pond guy Lusk talk about the odds of a bass growing that big we have better odds in hitting the lotto. We just never know. Large mouth bass aren't native to our area. We have idle bass hatcherys just sitting here. Where do you think these millions of bass fry are coming from? Hint it's not the single digit bass making these millions of fry? These big double digit gals are swimming nurseries. God I love bass fishing.
  6. I see the change in the length of the upper foam handle on some of the better quality higher priced rods. One of my longer foam handles cracked parallel to the centerline of the rod.
  7. I believe slow fishing baits is the key to fall fishing success. The bass want a good meal for little effort. It's there time to put the feed bag on for there winters rest. I find they hang around the same neighbourhood where they hung around all summer. I suggest if you live in the north don't stop bass fishing till the ice is on. Fishing big soft plastics with a slow dying minnow twitch presentation is the way to go. Using a pearl yum money 6" minnow example. Go up one size larger on the hook. In my picture is a 6lb.1oz lmb I pulled out of the pads. In the late summer. She was a bulldozer in the churning pads. I thought it was one fish. I had her lip grabbed and the pads were still churning. From shore I couldn't reach the second bass. I marked her GPS in my mind for another time. Fast forward to just before thanksgiving it's cold with snow flurries the pads died. I tossed a pearl 6" money minnow as far into the pad area as I could. Using the dying minnow twitch slowly she attacked it like a magnet to steel. I set the hook and for a while the battle was on. I never had a bass bend this rod in half the way she did not even my PB#10lbs. She's a big fish. Then the unthinkable happens the line went slack. She spit it. Then we start to ask ourselves what did we do wrong? The right sized hook, good tight knot, I got the bait with hook and knot intact back. I thought I set the hook hard enough. Then I started thinking the power of the rod should of been stronger. I used the same med rod I caught my PB on. I feel the upper section of the rod was weak. I used a med power when it should of been at least a MH power rod. It was time to up the game, regroup, lick my open wounds and upgrade. I upgraded my rods power to a MH, my line from 8lbs to 12lbs, and one size larger on the hook. Live and learn. Just some free info, we never know what's going to strike. I didn't expect a fight like that. Listen to the gurus here it's good info. Tom in the above post is spot on. Beyond my pads is a rocky end of a dog leg shaped body of water.
  8. Never get rid of baits. I take them out of the batting line up and sit them on the bench. I will return them to the game again. Keep the faith sooner or later all baits will work. I believe we can have every bait in the world, but if we don't know how to present it were not going to catch anything. Fact, I purchased three new crankbaits all the same brand and size/color. One caught every fish in the pond. The other two I couldn't snag a fish. Break out the needle nose pliers and adjust the nose ring. So it runs straighter and the right and left wobble is even. Your presentation has to be Oscar winning perfect not golden globe I said Oscar.
  9. I purchase a few different colors at first. When a bait has success I purchase all the colors. Example, the Norman thin N in chartruese worked awesome first night out at dusk. The presentation is the key. I casted it out to the middle of the pond and just a twitch. The bass were attacking it.The violet is another good color. They all work sooner or later.

  11. But a gazillion people will invade the place were u caught it. I feel bad for the fish.
  12. The 7 1/4" bps stik o but make them 12"
  13. New2bc4bass, after going through the female hormone injections I feel bad for all women who go through this too. I even had the crying part over nothing. I'm still here. Guys young old get your prostate checked. I'm a lucky one. I have a second chance at life. All I thought about was my 5yo grandson. The sleep overs and the 4am fishing trips I can wait. He likes fishing already.
  14. Is the roller loose enough to spin freely. How often do you lube it?
  15. I'm on my third year with prostate cancer the PSA is zero. The female hormone injections are killing me. Cold sweats, hot flashes, wake up soaking wet sweats. Crabby, grumpy. All I think about if fishing.
  16. How old are you son? I think $100 worth of lures could get you going. The other $150 towards furthering your education.
  17. I'm disabled I can't walk far. I fish not too far from the car. I mail order all of my stuff. I would like to wander in cabelas, dsgs, even Wal-Mart. I have three bad discs in my back, I'm recovering from prostate cancer. I have a golf ball sized kidney stone, bad knees. I purchased new rods just to see if I like them. Either way my family will get them. I just had a disc pop in my back the other day. I'm dying to go fishing. But I need to get better first. My son's do stop by and take me fishing. I didn't want to tell this but now some will understand. Please I'm fine. I'm down but not out. I will fish. I don't drink, smoke or drive all my extra money goes into fishing stuff for me and the kids. For every lure I buy I buy six so everyone in the family gets one. I even gave them new spinning setups. They all fish even there spouses and my grandchildren. Money means nothing family makes us rich.
  18. Well I was never into the higher prices fishing rods. I'm frugal. But when I seen the still brand new LEWS SPEED STICK spinning rods for 50% off a year back I ordered them. These are the older model a year old I guess but there still nice and have a smooth feeling blank from the handle to the tip. I can't pass up a deal on a decent quality rod that's affordable. I know there are better quality rods out there for a higher price but for now the LEWS will do.
  19. I find the more bearings the tighter the reel feels. The less bearings the reel is a tad looser.(spinning reels) Are the 6.3:1 / 7.2:1 casting reels easier to crank with burning spinnerbaits? Over spinning reels?
  20. Sorry I should of checked back here sooner. When I was using my 6.3:1 spinning reel with ten ball bearing I found it harder to reel spinnerbaits over a lesser bearing reel that's 5:1 ratio. The faster reel wore me out.
  21. I just purchased a 6'6" med/hvy spinning rod for topwater. I'm hoping with heavier test line I can keep them from going in the deep weeds on me.
  22. Tom There is no topography maps of the small bodies of water I fish. I use a $25 rod n reel setup with braid to cast out the fish finder pod. The pod is light. My point was the good areas to cast a line we walk by sometimes not realizing it's there we don't see it. The shape of the points can vary. I was hoping more would chime in here with your thoughts too. It's not just the Bill and Tom show.
  23. Welcome to the bass forum. Fishing 5 to 6 days a week it was costing me $50+ a week on live bait. That's roughly $350 a year. Then one night I found out inline spinners caught more bass then live bait. I started fishing using two setups one with live bait and the other with lures. The more I learned about the presentations with different lures the more I continued to out fish live bait. I started using lures only and spent $50 a week on lures. Once you learn how to use lures your catch rate will increase. The bass are predators like kittens they want something moving to attack it. Now is $250 too much to spend on lures? Let's say it's a good start.
  24. I won't bother sorry.
  25. I like using the HOT CHARTRUESE color skirts and chartruese trailers with a rattle and a scent in low light, dark stained waters to muddy waters. Even with the blade baits. We're playing on all the basses senses.
