  1. Crickets Drive in, in Stratford, ct. they closed over a decade ago but the new one is about to open up soon. Near we're the old place was near the airport. foot long hotdog with the works, buttered toasted roll, deep fried hummels hotdog, hot pepper relish, yellow mustard, sauerkraut, cant eat just one, when i I was a kid working all day back filling foundations by hand with no lunch for supper I ate four foot long hotdogs. My old man would cry. I said you work me like two people I eat like two people. Lmas. The kids today don't know what real work is. The hotdog with the skin is the best. At home cooked over a charcoal/ mixed hardwood fire. You have to have that wood flavor.
  2. How long to use a lure? if it's not producing fish change it. I skip fan cast the whole area then change it. How long to fish a spot? in the past I know for sure where the bass hang out. Fishing from shore I have a selection of lures I throw. I use most of the different types of lures. I go from topwater, shallow crankbaits, smaller spinnerbaits, inline spinners, c rigged plastics, minnowbaits, swimbaits, split shot rigged worms. i use smaller baits in natural colors first if the water conditions are clear to borderline tea color stained. Fished faster. In stained water conditions it's mid sized lures in brighter colors. Fished slower. In muddy water conditions it's the brightest colors in the largest sized fished the slowest. i usually don't give up so easily. I go through my tackle box full of lures. Then I go through them again changing my presentation as I go. i collect abandoned kittens were I fish. I notice each one in the same litter is different. Some will attack a string right away, were the next one won't strike till I pull n pause. Some need to be teased more. Predator to predator the bass are no different trust me? Stay calm and the action will pick up. During the action and the frenzy slows down change colors first. If still no action change lure size. this is my shore fishing experience, get a cast out hummingbird fish finder. I use it to learn the depts, bottom structure, look for drop offs, flats, deeper holes, shallows. This tells me how to fish them. if you say your not going to catch anything before you go stay home. Your a beaten fisherman before you fish. Stay positive and motivated, learn how to use lures. Read everything here more than once. Trust me read or watch the video here then go out the try it. Listen to what the video says but watch what they do with the rod too watch the action. its skill that catches fish not luck, get out there.
  3. The cedarcide is organic. Good for pets and humans it's safe. It won't harm us or the pets. We tested it for a week now. No ticks on my cats.
  4. My misses went to the local grain and feed store and picked up some cedarcide it's organic and safe for humans and animals. So far no ticks on my outside cats. The dog too when she remembers to spray him. The ticks are in full force here like I never seen before. With the warmer winter it didn't kill any ticks. The long cold spells of 10 degree weather and colder kills some of them. This year in ct there are mid sized black ones and the larger gray ones.(raisinets) Cedarcide won't hurt the cats if they clean themselves. where can I fish that has no ticks? Lol
  5. I use a 1/8oz c rig with the Carolina adjustable keepers , 24" leader for all my plastics from shore. Very quiet.
  6. Is spooling up reels with new line better than landing fish? Or watching the topwater action? Sorry I just had to go there lol. the excitement for us growing up was the night before opening day of trout season. Scrambling to clean the tackle box, respool the reels. Back then we fished for bass once or twice a year. But once I was hooked on bass fishing. What trout? Forget about it.
  7. Red w/gold flakes or similar. Amber red, senkos. Carolina 1/8oz, w/24" leader with a eagle claw weedless hook. No scent at first. I use the weed less spring as my strike indicator. If I get the slightest nibble and don't know if it's a strike seeing the weedless spring unlatched it was a strike but they didn't hang on. One shot of scent is a hookup next cast. We still need a assortment of colors. The colors can change.
  8. Tonight it's steak. im really wanting my famous cheeseburgers. I take a grill cheese, add bacon, carmelized onions, and a burger. You won't eat too many of these. i lost over 90lbs now. Lettuce, lettuce, more lettuce.
  9. If your catching 4lbers upsize your baits. i found out that too many fisherman fish in the evenings. I started fishing early in the mornings. I was catching bass in the evenings but they were 5lbs and under many 2-3lbers from shore. Now early morning fishing decreased the number of bass caught but they were bigger on average. Get up at 3:30/4:00am go fishing in the dark. I like fishing smaller bodies of water that most fisherman pass by. Look for ponds that are runoff from big lakes. I like topwater first, inline spinners, rapalas, spinnerbaits, plastic c rigged creaturebaits, split shot rigged worms. Etc. stay going and focused.
  10. I never knew there was different classes of people. Till I ran into them. i accept the things I can't change and change the things within my power. I'm older and wiser now, life's too short. A boater came by so close to us shore fishing he cut our lines my buddy just home from nam picked up a rock and hit the guy he was that close. In my teenage days.
  11. In my pic she's 6lb,1oz weighed at the local deli. My pb is 10lbs. I'm hoping I don't have knee surgery this year so I might go fishing. I have a sport model walker with four wheels, brakes, basket and a seat. Non electric.
  12. Don't forget the garlic. On a slow day when using scents change flavors. I went from a bait mate bass scent, no action, to a garlic scent with plenty of action. we don't eat cheeseburgers everyday, neither do the bass. I been using scents for decades now I never leave home without them. The make fish hold on longer besides attracting them. With plastics that are salted I don't use scents at first. If I get a strike and miss it one shot of scent will make it hang on longer to set the hook. the scent covers oders from your tackle box and your hands. I don't handle a gas pump when I'm going fishing. I was my hands with big range before I leave the house that's my ritual.
  13. French dip sounds great.....I'll be right over lol. tonight it's lamb chops, salad, plenty of salad. I'm under 300lbs now and falling. The goal is 250lbs.
  14. I had a very large bird take off from my back yard. It was about a seven foot wingspan maybe larger. It was white on the bottom. My neighbor seen it around that day too. Haven't seen it again. i did see a hawk fly off with a squirrel screaming one day. I wish he took more squirrels.
  15. I'm ok guys just been quiet. Thanks for asking. this winter has been quiet. Back n October or November I had my 375/400lb Blackbear here at 10am chewing on my bird feeder. I was 30 feet from him in the car. I was going to get out of the car and run him off but I deceided to stay put. He wasn't moving. Finally he left. I never seen a bear so healthy nor the fur so thick. There was no ice to speak of nothing safe so no one was ice fishing. My fishing and hunting license ifs free now that's a good thing. hope you guys are well and your families too. Godbless bigbill bigfoot didn't get me yet,
  16. Thanksgiving is all about getting the whole family together and enjoying the misses cranberry, sausage, bread, mushroom stuffing, I live for this holiday. Christmas eve is the next one. Every food you can think of is served. Everything from king crab to pasta with anchovies/olive oil. It's a feast the whole night. Christmas dinner. From Primed Rib to home made pasta. holidays are about family, friends and great food. The family tradition lives on.
  17. Bass Pro Shop TOPNOCKER the most productive topwater lure ever made. the mili-second I get the rumor one of my hot producing lures is being discontinued I fill a box up with them. I missed the topnocker warning but I won't miss anymore.
  18. I'm new to this more ball bearings vs lesser ball bearings. (Spinning reels) Add in the higher gear ratio retrieve speed along with more bearings and I'm tired after throwing spinnerbaits, cranks ect. I use better quality reels with less bearings for my cranking baits. I use the more bearing reels in my non or less cranking baits. Once the more bearing reels are broken in I can move them to cranking lures.
  19. In the northeast the tics are running rampant check your body, your clothes, your pets and look on the floor for those fat looking raisenets in a gray color. (Tics) Time to clean your clothes dryer and vent pipe. Clean your fireplace and woodstove chimney. Reseal your seams on the pipes with furnace cement. Check for leaks. Clean the oil burner or replace the filter on your gas furnace. Turn off and disconnect your hoses from your outside faucets. Fill your windshield washer with the antifreeze soap. Check your radiator for antifreeze. Fill your tires with air the cold weather shrinks them. Put your snow brush in your car now. Put your snow shovels near your door. Time to put seafoam in your equipment. It keeps the gas fresh in the tank. Run it for a while with the seafoam in it. Put extra warm clothes in your car. Boots, hats, gloves, plastic bag.
  20. Prayers sent. Sorry to hear about your mom.
  21. I told my new boss once a good worker can make it anywhere. Then I said I could eat my lunch anywhere too. Of course on a new job my chainsaws weren't cold yet. I was arrogant. Job wise I went from sinking ship to sinking ship in the 80's. I put job applications in and go back a week later the place closed up. Sad. get nervious when the new CEO gives a speech, after the buyout that no one is going anywhere. This speech means fire up the chainsaws.
  22. I moved 20 minutes to the north of my old house. The difference is my old house was in New York Yankee country. My new place is die hard red Sox fans. I been a Sox fan since they broke the 1918 curse. That's a series I'll never forget. They slammed those Yankees. They can do it again. Have faith in Big Pappy.
  23. Remember good help is hard to find. Well people that actually want to work. Thru my decades of working I seen more people do more to get out of work than what the job required. You have trained people there already use them. I lost my job in '83, '84, '85 I worked only 9 months in three years. That's three months per year. The recession killed the machine tool industry. I wanted to work but couldn't find a job. I took my chainsaws and sold firewood. I had my own job to fill the gaps. I pray for the ones who are out of work I know the feeling.
  24. When we rode dirtbikes I made sure the sparkplug was fresh after I had one foul with a pack of coyotes closing in nearby. The bike was a short push to the trailer. Trust me the after burner was on.
  25. I'm recovering healthwise but very slowly. I'm resting most of the time using a walker now. the other night about 12/1am I heard a stomping grunting, snorting deer come through the property mile seconds later there's a pack of coyotes chasing it. While yelping, barking, ect. Then there in the bottoms and it got quiet. They made there kill because they were singing before it went quiet. now the next morning I went for injections for my lower back. We arrived home at 10:30am. I had a 300lb Blackbear with my bird feeder in its mouth. He didn't spook. He dragged the bird feeder and ate as we pulled in the driveway. No to push him we went for a ride. We got home he's still there so we blew the horn and he slowly walked towards the woods. I tied the dog out and it ran away when the dog barked. I bought the misses pepper spray. I'm thinking this 300lb bear is a female. I seen a larger 400lb bear(male) last year. Maybe cubs in the spring? i told the misses to remove the bird feeders finally she did. I put out the moultry corn feeder when the snow is deep. I plow a path from the bottoms to the water shed past the feeder. there goes my garden, my fruit trees and blueberry bushed/ strawberry patch. have to really watch the grandson playing outside now.
