  1. I loved the part at the end w/ bill dance. Great video and great work guys! 8-)
  2. what setup are you using? what lures do you use the most and on average, how long do you fish them?
  3. I'd say you could be over thinking it abit. Many fish will just tug and nip are your bait just to get a feel for what it is, without committing to a real gulp. You always have to account for how much plastic is exposed beyond your hook that they may be grabbing ahold of. Try shortening the lengths if you can. Also I'd reccomend wide gap hooks as well. Should help abit. but remember, you cant hook all the bites you get. Many many many fish will just grab a piece and spit it out just as fast. You cant get em all!
  4. I'd recommend zoom super flukes aswell in your plastic line up. Great for targetting bigger fish, but it is somewhat limited. Flukes dont sink very fast (weightless) and need the user to put some effort into their presentation as well. Still a successful bait however. Personally however I havent seen much success w/ berkley power baits. Not saying they wont work, its just they havent produced much for me. :-/ colors I would recommend are white, pumpkin seed and watermelon. Those seem to be the top producers in my experience.
  5. most of my color bleeding has been accidental. I find that dark reds and blacks will bleed onto other plastics if left side by side long enough. The success of them doesnt seem to be different though, atleast in my case.
  6. arg! i hate when bats hit the line! Its the worst when cat fishing, late a night just staring at your pole waiting on any movement. I think the bats like to annoy us!
  7. Just like Brian said, go w/ pumpkin seed and watermelon colors. They are the BEST. so this is how I like to rig my tubes w/ a jighead. *this is a zoom tube, pumpkin seed, size small I know that a lot of people prefer to rig it differently, so feel free to try it however you choose. I like my way for the action it gives the tube and just the right weight that is not too big and not too small. In this picture I feel the hook may be just a tad long but it works.
  8. I say plastics plastics plastics! Flukes, tubes, senkos, and grub tails are my go to baits for when nothing else is working. They also have VERY different presentation aspects from crankbaits, for when a change is necessary. That said, WELCOME and GOOD LUCK! 8-)
  9. When to set the hook is definitely one of the hardest aspects of fishing. Too soon and you can pull it out of their mouth. Too late and the fish may have already spit it out, or swallowed it. I have two conditions that will make me set the hook. I will wait until I see my line moving on its own, when I am sure I am not doing it. The other is when I feel the wiggle of a fish's tail as it squirms with my bait. I think wiggle is the perfect way to describe it. The kind of movement thats definitely not an object that isnt moving. I guess I am in the more conservative hook setters though. If I am unsure I feel its best to wait and be sure.
  10. x2! Texas rigged plastics are as close to weedless as you can get in my opinion. Great producers too!
  11. You are right on target! I agree w/ everything you said. I also agree w/ the importance of knowing a strike from a bounce or snag on structures. I will usually wait until I feel that wiggle from a fish or see my line start moving on its own. A lot of time w/ jigging it is easy to confuse a bounce off the bottom w/ a strike. Also watermelon is a very very reliable color. It is always my first choice, with pumpkin seed not far behind.
  12. In my experience I have caught fish by retrieving in 3 or 4 different ways. 1.) steady retrieve. Not letting the grub/jig touch the bottom, but not too fast to out pace fish that are holding to structure. Gotta find that nice happy medium. 2.) very slow retrieve. Letting the jig fall to the bottom and reeling it in slowly, pausing to let it fall every few seconds. I like to give jigs little tugs to trigger reaction strikes, and to hop over things that may snag your jig. The key here is not to over do it. Too hard a tug and you'll freak the fish out. Just give your pole a steady tug for a second, covering only a few inches. Easy does it! 3.) middle of the road approach. I catch most of my fish using this medium pace, almost bouncing retrieve. Reel in slow to medium and steadily, with little tugs every 2 or 3 cranks. Ideally your jig will rise and fall over and over. Not too fast, not too slow. Works for me and I bet it'll work for you
  13. If I had to come up w/ 3 set ups out of the given options, I would go w/ 1.) tube set up w/ jighead for brush, cover, and structures. Mix up retrieves between bouncing off the bottom, steady retrieve, and letting it sit on bottom with small tugs every 20 seconds or so. 2.) rapala shad or baby bass colored jointed shad rap. Very versatile bait, for shallow to medium depths. You can really retrieve it any which way and produce. Just see what works for your area is all I can say on how to fish it. WATCH FOR SNAGS! Those treble hooks will cause you problems if you are running into logs or sticks 3.)the last set up I am torn between a spinnerbait and a drop shot rig. It all depends on where you are at the time, deeper areas being much better for drop shot, while shallower areas being much more favorable to spinnerbaits. (when i think of drop shot rigs I think of minnow or bait fish imitators and/or grub tails)
  14. great info! I recently had a small mouth completely swallow a 4'' tube and was very frustrated I couldnt get it out. I really dont like letting fish die to hooks and I hope i can use this technique in the future to prevent it from happening again. thanks glenn! 8-)
  15. shimano sedona! go under dog goo!
