  1. i have curado Es and a few zillions and i love them all. however, for froggin' and pitchin' plastics, i prefer the curado E7. hollow-body frogs are pretty light and i get better distance with light lures with my curados than my zillions. same with pitchin'...i rarely use more than a 3/16th weight and the curado seems to allow me to get the bait out easier. also, when i pitch, i use my wrists a lot and feel that the slight weight differential makes a big difference at the end of the day. now, if you tie on any kind of leader to your braid, the knot does pass through the bigger eyelet of the zillion easier but that's rarely a problem either way.
  2. slipknot, it'd be helpful if you provide some explanation.
  3. i think you misread that article. he says he's helping design three duckett swimbait rods but that he is currently using a soft flipping stick. in the tackletour article, he said that ONE of the setups he was using was a 7'10" duckett, which he did throw on the first two days but no one claims he won with it (although him posing with that rod and the trophy WAS pretty skeevy).
  4. yum, if i understand you correctly, you want to put 100 yards of fluorocarbon onto each of your spinning reels and the rest would be cheaper backing, like mono. if so, using cheaper backing is a good idea with fluoro...not just because fluoro is more expensive but because fluoro at the end of the spool isn't as usable since it gets tightly packed around the arbor and will come off in tight coils since fluoro is stiffer and has more memory. bass pro shops actually is a really good source for finding IPT (inches per turn). on their website (or in their printed catalogs, look up your reels and the IPT is listed between the gear ratio and reel weight as "line rec." (which is 'line recovery in inches per turn'). however, be aware that IPT changes depending on how much line is already on the spool.
  5. this is consistent problem with all of the chrome or gold ones...the other red eye shads are much better.
  6. i've had luck with all the colors. in muddy water, go darker...in clear water, go lighter. i really like the clear with gold and silver flake in clear water...very shad-like. while you're at it, you might want to try out the damiki hydra.
  7. well, something is up. the SKT in the TW photo has a plain sideplate whereas the SKT in the BPS photo has a dial:
  8. i visit the TW site practically everyday and have done so for the past couple of years. i think that event was more of a sale to generate some business during tough economic times.
  9. speed traps are my favorite crankbaits...i like them even better than the worden's timber tiger (which was the original designer's "improved" version of the speed trap). anoither site has the custom paint shop versions of the speed trap on sale. these finishes are really nice although i have no problems with the finishes on the standard speed trap.
  10. http://www.sufix.com/usa/fishing_line/performance_braid/ fwiw, sufix neon fire is bright but the orange color wears off very quickly and it does not fish as smoothly as green sufix. i have yellow power pro too and i like it better. as for whether fish bite it or not, the jury is still out on that for me. i've been marking it black with poor results so i will try it unmarked. maybe i just too much confidence in green.
  11. it is an interesting design, especially the straight-on view from behind. here's what tackletour says about the unique design: from: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast09okuma.html
  12. they moved to the "infini II" spool design and reconfigured the magnets, making them stronger. IIRC, the new SX has two rows of magnets now instead of one.
  13. i had all three iterations of the prolite finesse. the B and C versions are great reels...pretty darn close to a daiwa sol in casting performance at half the price. the carbonlite i have not fished yet so i can't say anything about the perforrmance. but, despite being built on a 10-size frame, it is barely larger than the 05-size prolite finesse and only 0.1 oz. heavier than the last C version. here's a pic of the two (prolite on the left, carbonlite on the right): and here's a pic of the carbonlite and my daiwa sol:
  14. heh-heh...this is exactly why strike king pays KVD almost $500,000/year!
  15. JFYI, it was posted a couple of weeks back that blood red is now available...not on the website yet but you can place your order via phone and request it. i'd think that is more useful than metholiate.
  16. the daiwa megaforce plus is on sale online at cabelas.com for the same price: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0049032122341a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=megaforce&sort=all&Go.y=0&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/search/search-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=0
  17. is this the black one with the gold graphics and flat paddle handles? i believe the spool was black and didn't look like it was aluminum either. if so, i had one way back in the early 80s. i honestly don't remember how well they casted. david, the ones we're talking about must be different because i know i had mine before 1985. the reason i remember that is because 1985 was the year i began my 25-year fishing hiatus and i had been using my black bantam for a least a year before that. j.francho, i had a couple of the PL-1000s back in the day as well. man, i loved those reels.
  18. a lot of guys on the california delta throw peanut butter and jelly. i only throw brush hogs in muddy water and my personal favorite is camo.
  19. hooligan, i bought a few a couple of years back when *** had them on liquidation. i liked them except that the free-riding hook tended to get hung up in underwater branches a lot...in fact, i've only got one left. i'd recommend throwing them in open water or over grass but not in deep timber. i also wished they came in heavier sizes but, otherwise, they are a quality spinnerbait. i sent you a PM too.
  20. sending you an email. thanks.
  21. did your walmart have the trigger x flappin' bugs? if so, would you be interested in buying some and trading with me for some genuine yamamoto fat ikas or some other plastics i have? my walmarts don't carry the triggerx stuff and the flappin' bug looks interesting to me. thanks.
  22. this is interesting to me. i bought a curado e and thought it was great. then, one day i tried out my fishing partner's curado e which was bought within a month of mine...i absolutely could not believe how much further it could cast or how much smoother it felt...both our reels are stock.
  23. i think it is awesome. for some of us, TW's demo program is the only way we'll ever fish a $480 steez! you can also demo the new ABU garcia premier and STX, the daiwa sol, the new pflueger patriarch XT, and those funky arden flip-and-pitch reels. the shipping is two-day shipping too.
  24. flappin' hogs are awesome. i rig mine texas style with a light bullet weight or as a jig trailer. avalonjohn is right...get a bottle of mend-it. bass tear these things up pretty bad but mend-it will fix them up great.
  25. save phace has another series called 'just ill' that are plain with solid colors like black, red, or white.
