  1. I've got a 1988 Stratos 256v with a 70, and it will run 42 with a chewed up prop. Motor height is your friend...Try a jackplate, and a SS prop...Google Mark's Propellers...he can hook you up!
  2. awesome...looks like I will have the perfect set up!
  3. Costa's hands down!
  4. Hey guys, I just started throwing swimbaits here in central AL. The lake I fish most is deep and clear, has some real pigs in it so I'm trying the swimbait. It's still a little chilly now and the bait fish aren't really moving but I have been chunking them just to get a feel. I said all that to ask this. I need a rod for these. I have a heavier duty Quantum DX reel. It's a couple of years old, but it's burly enough to handle the heavier baits. I'm looking at a 7'6" heavy action from BPS. The largest bait I'm throwing is 6" around 1-3oz. I'm not throwing the big 8" trouts or anything like that. I have 25lb big game on the reel right now.
  5. ALABAMALAKES.COM OR COOSATACKLE.COM they are a dealer of NetBait, from what I know it's good stuff, and you can't find better people that they guys at www.alabamalakes.com
  6. thought about playin college golf. i had a rough senior year, our team won plenty of tourneys, we just weren't stellar. I could have played Junior College. I bought a new truck and had to have a full time job so that made golf tough to do. I like playing recreationally now, no pressure. I love fishin tho, and i love my boat. i'm trying to learn alot so i can be good.
  7. i will def keep the flasher then, is it a bad idea to put a fishfinder up there too? i was thinkin about my partner, it would be more convenient that him askin and me having to tell him. i friend of mine has one in his console and it is easy for me to see. so is this a bad idea putting one up there too. maybe i'll just move the older lowrance up there....it shows depth, and the bottom...
  8. on my 88 Stratos, i have an oooooold lowrance up fron, and an oooold humminbird flasher. i don't feel like i need to spend a ton on electronics, i've heard good things about Eagle products and they are very affordable. i'm lookin at either the Eagle Cuda 128, or Cuda 168, seeing as how i only want depth, temp, and a graph that shows the bottom and fish. a guy told me i need to keep the flasher b/c it is better to use while running the boat. my idean was to put both a graph up front and on the console to replace the flasher. I said all of that to ask this....Do I need to Keep the flasher, and would it be a bad idea to have both the flasher and a new digital fish finder on the console?
  9. i threw the tube back in there after i missed them on the buzzbait. i have heard to throw a plastic back in that situation. however, it was rigged with a bullet sinker texas style, i just didn't feel like re-rigging, those were the only two lures i had tied on 2 different rods. i didn't even have my bag with me, i wish i would have had a fluke or a horny toad/sizmic frog now...
  10. i hit the local golfcourse pond last evening. I caught 2 in about 45 minutes, but i missed 4. i started at about 6 30 with a tube, and moved on to a 1/8 black buzzbait as it got darker. I caught the 2 on the buzz bait, but I missed 4. They all seemed like reaction strikes, my 2nd busted it right by the bank when i was about to pull it out of the water. I dunno what my prob was, they all caught me off guard. i usually fish plastics and blades, as a result my senses are kind of numb to the topwater bite. does anyone have any tips for me so i can hook up more on the top?
  11. Stratos rocks! I just got my first bass boat about a month ago, it's an 88 15'6" with an Evinrude 70 horse in it. I beat it up pretty good this weekend, huge water. It's still runnin strong, and the hull didn't split up on me.....good to go...
  12. GO DAWGS! SIC EM... go catch some bedding fish, it took me 3 attempts to get one off of a bed with a craw, hit em in the nose the 3rd time and it was on!
  13. BOOYAH!...bait company. gotta love the Booyah Blades. i dunno if they suck or not, but i like and have had great luck, Terminators are good too. I'm new to spinner baits, my buddy got me addicted to them, everyone here from what i've seen will probably tell you to get some Senkos, they are sweet too. and as far as crankin' i'm not sure... just my $.02
  14. thanks for all of the welcomes, looks like i gotta replace my trim switch and then i'm off to the water. we got her cleaned up this weekend and hopefully have er wet wednesday evening. take care. Josh
  15. hey guys, I just got my first bass boat. I scored an '88 Stratos 256V. i'ts only 15'6" long but it's plenty for me. it has the same model Evinrude 70hp motor. It's in pretty good shape as is. this weekend i plan to detail it, wash wax/polish and see how it comes out. i have a buddy who's grandfather owns a marina and i may get it detailed there. I also know a guy who will sand it down and shoot a new gel coat for like 400 bucks. it's gonna need carpet, and i'm probably gonna buy some new seats. the best part of the whole deal is, i only gave $1200 for it, boat, motor, and trailer. please let me know what you guys think, and i'll try to get some pics up soon. Josh
