  1. Other than a boat, what is the one thing you could not live without if you were going bass fishing? You can be as specific as you want with regards to brands.
  2. What sets a bass rod apart from any other rod? Why do you buy the rods you buy? I'd prefer if you didn't use brand names.
  3. What motivates you to fish for bass? If you fish for multiple species, why do you choose to fish for bass that day over something else?
  4. What are some of the best frog fishing lakes in Alabama? Big or small. Any part of Alabama or surrounding states?
  5. I have a lot of confidence in the Yamamoto Flappin' Hog. I really like the bulk of the bait even though its not too big. It's great for smallmouth and spots around here. I fish it on a skirtless, weedless jig head just like a jig.
  6. Roboworms or Reins Bubbling Shaker for most occasions. Most of the time I will use a Robo Rebarb hook because of where and how I fish them.
  7. Well, any help would be appreciated. I knew each model would not be the same but if I can get a general idea from different measurements then that would be really helpful. And after thinking about it. I really only need measurement 3. So I will adjust my post to reflect this.
  8. I am working on a rod project and I need a specification of different reels. I only need one measurement to help me out. I need measurements of any brand you have and different models within each brand. For instance; a Stradic 2500 and 3500 would be helpful to know. The picture below shows three different measurements. I only need the label that is number 3. I am asking for the width of the base that connects the foot to the reel. Please measure at the widest part. Thank you for anybody that has the time to do this. MM is prefered but inches are good too. Please include the brand and make of the reel with the measurement.. Thanks
  9. Where did you get his information? I'm not questioning you, I just would like to know because that would be great. So, by what you are saying is I can use three wires. One would be just for a bait. The other two could have a swimbait on them and a blade. I haven't read anything that would imply this. The article found on http://news.tn.gov/node/7994 says "Each blade of a spinner bait would be considered a lure."
  10. But why should it be illegal? A lot of people say it should be but few offer a good reason why.
  11. Exactly. In Tennessee you can only have 3 baits with hooks and nothing else, no spinner blades or swimbaits without hooks. But, if you only use one swimbait with a hook then you can have as many other baits as you want. So I use two different A-Rigs for Tenessee. One has just three baits with three hooks, the other has five baits with one hook. For those that think it is not ethical to throw it. WHY? You have two arguements. Either you are using too many hooks or it looks too much like a ball of shad. Do you throw treble hooks? Do you throw swimbaits? An A-Rig is basicall the same thing as a trout swimbait, only for a ball of shad.
  12. I never really thought the name stitching came from the way he respooled the line. I imagined the name came from the way the lure was slowly crawled along the bottom. The camping out part was amazing. He felt more in tune with the lake by doing so. Now that's a purist. The patience required for this technique is incredible. Most people don't naturally have this kind of patience and that's why this method of fishing is overlooked. To me it adds to the sport. It's an internal challenge that must be constantly fought while hundreds of things go through your mind that try to make you second guess yourself. But back to my original question. What equipment are you using?
  13. I recently finished reading Bill's book. I decided to finally get it because my fishing mentality has somewhat changed recently. I love fishing tournaments but I like the idea of catching bigger fish than running and gunning for a limit. Swimbait fishing is one method I really love but I also hope to start stitching as well. Bill's book was published almost 20 years ago and I was wondering what changes, if any, would be made to the equipment. I know this is not a popular method with most fisherman but if any of you use it I would like to know what equipment you use. Bill used his long fiberglass rod, what spinning rod would you guys suggest? What line do you use? I'm guessing most would use flouro but I would think braid with a flouro leader would have its benefits. One of the main ideas of stitching is to feel the bottom structure and I would think braid would afford you the best opportunity for this. What baits are you using? I know Bill liked to use bulky straight tail worms of various sizes and that he preferred stiffer worms. It seams to me that a senko type worm would fit this bill pretty well. I want to change my focus towards trophy bass and I understand the benefits of this method. I also understand Bill was not simply conveying a fishing technique in his book. The real importance was placed on where to fish. He understood how big fish related to structure.
  14. I thought this was pretty interesting. I always knew temperature changed as water depth increased but I never knew how much. This is a graph of a temperature reading on Smith Mountain Lake. For those that don't know it's a deep mountain lake in Virginia that is usually very clear.
