  1. While, I'm not who's who, my name is Jason and I live in Odenton, MD. I have a 15.5' square stern canoe I use on mainly Rocky Gorge and Triadelphia from time to time. This year hasn't started so good for me as far as bass fishing. The bite has been tough and slow for me so far. I would think the bass are moving up and getting ready to start spawning real soon. I have caught some buck bass but nothing over a couple of pounds thus far. I have been doing a little cat fishing down in the Potomac with some friends and the blue cats can be pretty darn big. I also get offshore to fish about once a month to fish for tuna, mahi mahi, and other assorted good eating fish. Tight Lines MDBassman, MDBuckeye, Jason...
  2. Brian - If you are careful it can be done. Memorial weekend will have a good amount of pleasure boaters out there for the first time of the year so the lake may see some boaters. I was there last year for the 4th of July and took my 15.5' square stern Old Town canoe. Needless to say I stayed away from the main lake during times of high traffic. If you launch from the state park you can find some good fishing and no wake down lake to the left or north I believe. After the state park beach there is a bridge and on the other side is no wake and it's a good area to fish. My buddy caught a 5-7 LM that weekend we were down there on a firetiger spinnerbait. We also caught huge bluegill, perch, and a few smallmouth and walleye. There is a huge selection of fish at DCL so have fun but be safe. Also, the state park police really took care of us while we were there. We were fishing the state park hump, which is right out from the beach very early and we got checked by him. Everything checked out fine with our safety gear so he left us alone. A few hours later, about 8am, some big power boats started to buzz us throwing some good wake our direction. The state police guy pulled him over and gave him a ticket while he was no more than 100yds away from us. We were at anchor so he need to stay away further than he was.
  3. Fantastic day! I may have to hit the river soon in search of some pig smallies myself. Posts like these give me a fever.
  4. Great way to kill your lunch break! I wish I were lucky enough to be able to go cast for a few during lunch.
  5. RW - Have you ever heard of the crazy ninja worm by Jackal.
  6. Lang Lake, Ontario 5-4
  7. Nice work. My brother lives in Warsaw and fishes all of the local lakes up there. He mainly fishes for walleye in the Spring, Fall, and Winter. He will sometimes fish for panfish through the ice as well.
  8. Good heads up RW! I am going to keep an eye out for that one. Thanks
  9. I usually fish my Senko's T-rigged and weightless. I fish them on points and laydowns over deep water 10-20 ft. They sink fast enough just be patient.
  10. You have a few options. One of them is fishing local ponds. Another is to go to a lake which you can rent a boat. There are a few that aren't to far of a drive and the cost is reasonable. There is Centennial Lake in Columbia, Loch Raven in Baltimore County and a couple of others that are probably listed on the dnr website. They also have a list of hot spots on there. Don't be alarmed if the fishing is much different up here than it was for you in FL. The fish aren't as big and not as plenty. There are some good fish to be caught though if you put in the time. Good luck
  11. What's up Skippy? LOL that was funny. Anyway, I am from Odenton Maryland which is about an hour east of you. If you like freshwater fishing there is a lot to be done right south of you on the Potomac. Good smallmouth, channel cats, walleye, bluegills and even a few musky. Deep Creek Lake isn't to far away from you and that is my favorite lake in the state to fish in. You need a boat but if you go there on a weekend which is not a holiday you will have no problem renting one. There are smallies, walleye, perch, bluegill, and pike in there.
  12. Max, thanks for the welcome. Since I live here in Maryland I have never targeted them but have a lot of gear suited toward Stripers that I figured I could make work for Musky. My casting outfit is a 7'2" heavy St. Croix with an AbuG reel spooled with 50lb braid.
  13. basser89 and MskSlyr - I am new to this site and occasionally fish the Potomac. When I do get out I usually target walleye or smallmouth. I have never caught a muskie and really never targeted them. I have fished anywhere from Paw Paw to Dargen Bend. My question to either of you is where would you start targeting them and what would you use? I don't need exact locations just some general ideas. Thanks! Jason
  14. Rocky Gorge can be both rewarding and frustrating all in the same breath. There are some big bass in there as well as some other species. It seems like once the spawn is over the fish spread out and or go deep which makes fishing the lake tough at times.
