  1. i find it hard to even go walmart for bread and milk without going to the fishing section and atleast getting something. it's only $5..... a couple times a week....
  2. from what i have heard they will ruin a pond.
  3. those sure are some pretty fish, i wish we had them here in arkansas.
  4. well got 2 new rods for the night time. one is a berkly glowstik. 7ft. I will only use this for catfish because of weight, but this pole is NICE. it lights up like crazy with the LEDs on. for the night fishers, i highly recommend this pole. http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0031093119906a.shtml the other is a rhino glowtip. this i will use all the time. just the tip glows . its a normal weight and i prefer the foam grips sometimes anyways. I got it at walmart and my get another.
  5. i have heard a rumor of bps coming. but other than what has already been said, there is also academy sports. even walmart is pretty good here, other states dont have what the walmarts do here.
  6. im not the smartest, that i also called a bullhead right?? and from what bob lusk said i need to get those out of my pond
  7. its a catfish, what one i dont know not a channel
  8. well my friend and i decided last night was a good time o fish. we started about 9 and gave up by 10. we live about 10 minutes from the arkansas river and gave it a try from shore. all i can say i wow, that is some high water and insane current. i put a good amount of weight on a catfish line and it still went down stream. the current was so strong i don't know how you could fish the river right now. i hear down by the d**n there are some great fish though.
  9. thats pretty big for a gold fish. do you have a pic? maybe i should put some in my pond...
  10. you could always use a weedless hook with a wacky setup. i even used a weedless hook with a texas setup for fun last week so i could leave the hook sticking out. didn't seem to hurt a bit.
  11. blue gills are your friends in a pond. they are one of bass's favorite food. you will need to throw something other than a "real" worm. this time of year i would go with a senko or maybe even try a spinner bait. that should get ri d of the little guys and only get big ones.
  12. i need to take this advice for myself with my kid. i need to remember its our day, not mine.
  13. i started my son around 3 with trout up in branson. he did fine, but the attention span is short. he is almost 6 now and LOVES to fish, but he still has a short attention span for it. he runs around the pond and then casts a couple times, then goes off to something else. ponds are a good place for kids.
  14. i'll be staying closer to home, not because of gas, because i don't want to waste time on the road for time i could be fishing. if there was a lake i just had to go to, then maybe. but there are so many good ones within an hour around me. 2+ hours would be a "trip" to me, that may only happen once or twice this year.
  15. i went to wooley hollow today. it was a bust. we could see the bass follow the bait all the to the boat. heck, we even saw 3 and 4 at a time follow the spinner, but nothings bitting. we tried a couple different lures and still nothing. on the other hand, the water is clear. i think we tried the wrong time of day, my buddy who fishes this lake often said he hardly gets anything in the day out of this lake, always early morning or as the sun is going down. he said its a feeding frenzy then.
  16. ive got a buddy with a canoe, but we are to busy fishing other places right now to worry about it. but thats what i planed on doing.
  17. are you allowed to pre fish?
  18. oddly enough, i have been having my son use a small fly type lure with a small piece of shad catfish bait from walmart. its almost a cast and reel back in.
  19. im here in ar too, we are going to try wooley hollow state park, ill let you know how the water is there and the action, im going sunday hopefully.
  20. yeah i guess they made it pretty deep. i dont know why, it works for the fish in the winter i bet. i have not checked the depth to make sure that it is really that deep, i will in the next couple of months. im sure its shallower now just from erosion.
  21. thank you very much bob. i'll be looking into everything you said.
  22. im fine with having to put minnows in, even once a month. ($30 per 1000) but i do understand that i cant have 300 bass and 200 catfish in a 3/4 acre pond. I may need to stop throwing them back. There are turtles too that need to go. This pond was stocked a very long time ago and i dont know what they put in there. so the fact there are still bass and cats make me happy. we are going to make the pond larger and also put an aerator in there. should help. we are also going to get a feeder as well. but still, i understand there is not enough water for 300-400 bass in that small of a pond.
  23. i went out to beaver fork a couple weeks ago and had the same thing. No nibbles or anything. my buddy got one lm and it was a good 5 or so lbs.
  24. well i caught some bass and catfish. they were all small though. i'll be buying a 1000 minnows to put in there for growth. we did catch numerous bream. is heres a little guy, caught him while reeling trying for bass at the time. he is only about 8 inches or so. but that means they are reproducing, just need more food.
