  1. Brown with Green Pumpkin chunk. Pretty simple but very effective.
  2. I'm a deepwater guy so this is what I fish especially in the heat of the summer. 1) Ol Monster Worm Cali 420 with 3/8 weight and 5/0 VMC 2) Greenfish Tackle 3/4 Football Jig in Greenpumpkin Purple and GP Netbait Paca Chunk 3) 3/8 Custom J Will head with trick worm, speed worm or speed craw....deadly in hydrilla If the bite is tough I will go with a 3/16 Greenfish Tackle Shakyhead with Zoom GP Trickworm.
  3. If this has not been mentioned it also used when the grass on the bottom is growing and you want the bait to stay off the bottom and on top of the grass. On the lake that I fish it is very hard to throw a T Rig, Jig or Deep crankbait in the summer because it just gets bogged down in the grass.
  4. I disagree with splitting all the cost unless your splitting ALL and I mean ALL the cost. That means insurance/routine care ect. What my partner (non-boat owner at this time) does it pays all the entry fees and then we split the gas in half. You also have to consider that you are more than likely not just fishing the tourney but a practice day or two. Boating cost is high....period. We feel like this is a more than fair plan for us. Just for the record we do split all winning which have been very good over the last few years. As far as asking if he wants to fish them. NO PROBLEM. If you like to fish together and can work well as a team it is a blast.
  5. Fluke, What do you know about The Hill? LOL. Don't be sending people to my summer holes. All kidding aside and as Randall has said, herring take the bite deeper and many times they will be there one day and not the next. I will be fishing humps from 15-30 feet deep and looking for bait. You will know pretty quick if they are there. Usually make about 10-15 cast per spot and if you get a bite fish it hard if not try another spot. I will throw topwaters on all those deep areas if I see bait fish and some schooling action. A fluke is also a must if grass is present. PM me. I fish the Hill 2-3 times a week and will help you out with a pattern....no spots though.
  6. Stops all line twist which keeps bait swimming correct. Makes it much easy to swim a fluke which is my favorite way to fish the super fluke.
  7. This topic has been talked about a bunch so I would also search this website. That being said there is always a weightless super fluke on deck. 14 pound gamma edge, I opt for a 5/0 offset round bend hook. You need a bigger hook to clear all the plastic. I use a 12" leader the same as main line and a med size bronze swivel. The thing that is so great about a fluke is it can be worked at every depth. With the sensitive gamma you feel the tick or if fishing it up toward the surface you see the fish take the bait. Just my thought on line I would go with at least 14lb floro or higher. You need a solid hookset and little stretch. Depth is controlled by how long you wait to start working the bait. Thinner line means less than solid hook sets and that means less fish. As far as how you work it most people use a twitch, twitch , pause. I work it different depending on the mood of the fish. Ripping it or a slow steady retrieve works best for me.
  8. I am with Senko on this one. I have tried several other brands of frogs and have had the best results with the Spro. The best thing with the Spro is the hook up percentage. I barely miss one now. I was fishing another brand which will remain nameless and missed 7 straight. Switched to Spro and it was game on. I know everyone likes to mess with the frog but I have had great results right out of the package. The only thing I do on all of them is trim the legs.

    JJ's

I keep mine in plastic containers and have never had a problem.
  10. I fish every Wed night in our local tournies. I have had had lots of success. This year 2 1st's 2 2nd's and 1 3rd. been in the top 5 in all 10. I fish the same spots that I fish during the day. Humps or Bream Beds. Bait does not change very much. I will change from Green Pumpkin at times to a Junebug. I fish Ol Monsters T Rigged, Trick Worms C Rigged, Brown Jigs and Blacks Buzzbaits.
  11. The worm does not need to float with the head design. Worked on slack line it stands right up. The only negative to the spot remover is in rocks but there are some ways to make that work also.
  12. They suck...don't use them in any lake that I am fishing. Just kidding. I have one tied on all year long and every time I fish. Don't use braid. The hooks on the standard version were designed for floro and mono. Go up to a the Magnum Spot Remover if you must use braid. The spot remover matched with a zoom finesse worm has caught me more fish then any other bait that I throw.
  13. Throw a dark 1/4 - 3/8 jig...black and blue or all brown with a matching zoom super chunk. My second choice would be a Ol Monster or Mag II in Junebug T Rigged using 1/4 to 3/8 weight. Have you tried it at night? You may get your arm broke off.
  14. 3/8 Brown Mop Jig with Super Chunk Green Pumpkin. The only other jig I even would consider would be a 1/2 Brown Mop Jig with Super Chunk Green Pumpkin.
  15. When fishing a tournament you can't just be grabbing fish. It comes down to ounces at times. I have won several by a ounce and lost several by a ounce. If you want to make sure you are weighing the the best five a scale or a balance beam are a must. A balance beam and culling tags are the easiest way to make sure you will have your best 5 going to scale.
  16. Get you a balance beam at BPS. Tag every fish. Color code one or two of the small fish. Use the beam to figure out which one is the smallest. I usually color my 2 smallest fish with blue or orange. Those are my least favorite colors because of the Gators (LOL) and want them out of the boat. It only takes a minute but it help from making a mistake and culling the wrong fish or having too many in the livewell.Just my thoughts.
  17. How deep is the timber ? Are they lay downs on the bank or tree tops. When fishing deep trees I like to throw a t rig or spot remover let it go down to where fish are suspending and swim it back. A big bladed spinnerbait is also awesome on fish that relate to deep timber. Shallow timber I throw a Buckeye spotremover with a finesse worm, Buckeye mop jig with super chunk, t rig baby brush hog , speed craw or ultra vibe speed worm.I also like on certain lakes to throw a swimming jig in a pattern that looks like a bream. A weightless trick worm or senko is hard to beat at times when fish are around shoreline cover. There are a million different ways to fish trees just keep trying to you find out works on your lake.

    Fluke

I fish a fluke all year long and use the same weightless rig, rod and reel and line. I use a 6'9" MH Kistler casting rod, 14lb Gamma and a #5 Hook. I always use a swivel. The Gamma gets the bait down quicker. I would not use anything less then 14lb test because you need the extra strength for a solid hook set. The larger line does not effect the depth at all. Just my thoughts.
  19. Not to start a fight on here but I always do better in cold water on a bigger jig. 1/2 Mop with Super Chunk. I think they want something bigger being that they feed less and tend to be on the deeper side. I never trim my mops regardless of the time of year. I fish a jig all year long on several lakes and have never seen a huge need to downsize because the water temp. I think it has more to do with bait size. I know everyone has a different way of doing it and this is mine, So far doing pretty good on it.
  20. Any help at all. I am not wanting to fish your holes. I also need some help with hotels around the south end of the lake.
  21. Well I have next week off and the FLW guys are on my home lake so guess what? Road trip. I am going to load the boat and head west to Al. Anyone give me a heads up on Guntersville. I have never been there and want to catch some fish. Any help would be great.
  22. This rods look real good on paper but was wondering if anyone has had one in their hands yet? I noticed a review on another website but wanted to here from someone that actually has fished it. Price seems great and look like some great components. Any thoughts would be great.
  23. It happens it most sports. I go to the Masters here in Augusta every year and the majority of the golfers use stuff other than what they have on there bag. A example of this in fishing 2 years ago the classic winner said he was fishing a prototype of a Booyha jig. We all know he was fishing a Mop Jig made by Buckeye but they don't pay him so he goes on the stage and says he took the rubber off the mop and put it on the proto type head. Whatever.
  24. I will say that it is refreshing to see that but it does not happen all that much. I have been able to get to know several of the Elite and FLW pros because of my relationship with a certain company which I will remain nameless. Several of these pros have won and get up on the stage and say they won with the sponsors bait. TV coverage shows that was not the case. One pro even one a MAJOR TOURNAMENT with a certain bait and even had them brought to them by the owner and after he won said he won on a sponsors bait. I understand they need to protect the dinner table but I would rather them just be honest and say I found a bait that worked better on that given day or days than pad the pocket. Just my thoughts. By the way most sponsors do care. If a bait wins a classic or a major than equates to millions of dollars in product sales because...yes we are suckers.
  25. Clear Water...Glimmer Blue or Firecracker with double willow nickle Stained Water...Chart/White with col/willow combo with the willow being gold. Dirty Water Chart or Red. Big Gold Col Blade
