  1. Ok, I admit it...I went fishing on Mother's Day week end. 4 hours midday Saturday. Caught some nice fish too. 63-65 water temps and males are moving in. Lost count but more than a limit of 1.5-3.0 males. No fat females were within range of my seeing them. They would follow my Zara Puppy but not hit it and hit the follow up Shaky head or 4" Senko or Sluggo. The drop baits were very productive. Hope this helps. Grampa
  2. Ok...My turn at the podium....My old pal Rhino and I went out onto Charcog....Webster Lake yesterday. 7-2 and the weather was warm with high pressure and no wind. Beautiful. Good thing it was nice out cuz fishin' was sparse to say the least. We both tend to like to bounce plastics off the bottom and his shaky head caught a few nice bass, a couple of fat pickerel and a sunfish. I have some new things to try so I threw an Underspin to no avail and a squarebill with just as much success. So at about 10:30 I picked up my go to bait which is a 3" Sluggo on a 1/16 oz 1/0 leadfree ball jig and managed to recoup the day with a Sunfish, a nice fat Pickerel and finally a nice chunky LMB over in the corner by the Pump House. I saw a lot of cruising fish and beds starting to pop up. Water temp went from 57.2 to 62.5 by the end of the day. Hope this helps Grampa
  3. Calm down Dogbone...it's fishing not world peace. Just take one type of bait with you for short trips. Just bring a Twitchbait one day and throw it everywhere......bring something plastic to bounce off the bottom another time and throw it everywhere.....bring a Spinnerbait or Crankbait and throw it everywhere. When you do, be mindful of weather conditions and where you have luck. Pretty soon you'll lose count of how many fish you catch. Remember...Fishing is Fun. Grampa
  4. Mlinskyhockey...welcome aboard...nice report. Even better with Dad...I found excellent results with Hula Grubs and a 1/8 Dropshot hook. Doesn't sound like you need advice but perhaps you could give it a try. Gives the bait a nice stand up pose. Grampa
  5. Bass laughter is a cold...cold sound. Good effort though and nice thinking outside the box on the clips. Grampa
  6. Some mighty fine weather due up this week, fellers, so get yer gear all oiled up and go get 'em. And don't ferget yer Sunscreen. Grampa
  7. 10 to 2 today on Webster. Water temp 50.2-53.6 backwaters were warmer. Plenty windy but when you could maintain contact with the bottom for more than 2-3 seconds, you might get a bump on small rubber stuff. 2 keeper bass and a pickerel for me and a somewhat smaller bass and a perch for the little woman. Oh and the next time you see a lamprey.....crush it's head with pliers. Where there's one, there could be enough to ruin your body of water.
  8. I find that after the boat and truck are put away, a good alcohol rub is very helpful......applied internally.
  9. Pay attention now when I tell you this.....My wife bought me my last 5 bass boats.....Take her fishing and let her win.... Grampa1114
  10. Gramma1114 and I went out yesterday on Webster lake for the shakedown cruise....water temp 47 deg...just like the "Classic"... so I tried the 'underspin' lure that they used to win...........Nuthin'......what did work was 3" Sluggos with 1/16 oz non-lead jigs in alewife color......unfortunately the little woman was throwing them. After her 2.5 pickerel and 1.5 bass were 3 hours old.....I finally caught a 1lb pick and tucked my tail between my legs and went home. The year has begun. Grampa1114
  11. Sorry that you had to find out the hard way Joedodge and I hope you feel better soon. Don't forget that it takes some time for those effects to wear off after you stop taking the meds. Grampa
  12. The last time I went Ice Fishing....I caught 200 lb........brought it home and the wife tried to cook it up.....we almost drown.......
  13. We chatted.....I showed him my wallet......He left screaming....
  14. Before you buy new.....think about using the stuff that you gave up on.......but still have.....maybe you know how to use it now........
  15. I wish this horse was dead but it's not so here I am again.....Spring is here and the sun can kill you so.....COVER UP.... thank you Grampa
  16. I wish this horse was dead but it's not so I'm gonna beat it again.....Spring's coming and don't forget that the sun can kill you...please COVER UP......thank you Grampa
  17. Light plastics on light jig heads...(3" sluggos on 1/16 oz non-lead jig heads) only need 1 medium light spinning rod.
  18. Stay calm and take deep breaths.......
  19. If the weather is very windy when you go, there is a ramp at the bottom of the Vergennes Dam at Otter Creek. Fish the creek out and Kellogg bay for Largemouth. If the weather is nice then go south to Button Bay for some great Smallmouth. Doesn't matter where you go, just watch the Weather and stay safe. Grampa
  20. King...I remember fishing the Res a long time ago......when I lived in the area....for 35 years....there are plenty of fish to be caught on the ridges that are adjacent to the Islands. Try a Zara Puppy in the cove behind the big island in the spring for Largemouth and in the corner to the right of the dam. The area in front of the little brook to the right of the ramp and the whole face of the dam will work for medium running crankbaits. The squarebills should work just fine at the point before you go around to the beach. Keep your eyes open for the ridges that extend off points. Oh yeah...twitch baits work all over the Res. Crayfish and Baby Bass along with Perch are usually good choices. Grampa
  21. So I think this is the right place....I was sick of trying to unhook my baits from my net so I broke down and bought a rubber net which does a very nice job of not getting hooked but it seems that they don't like to be slammed under compartment and livewell lids so they break and leave gaping holes in the net. Alright...lesson learned, I'll be more careful. I couldn't tie or glue this thing back together and went looking for a replacement net. Frabill wants $35 for just the netting....The whole net cost $28.....but.....searching around brought me to Amazon and for $22 I got new replacement netting and it was delivered in 2 days. I thought I'd pass this along.
  22. Ok guys....it's just winter....it happens every year...I know that for a fact.....if you don't ice fish....and 2 hip operations say I don't ice fish, then all that's left is the bait monster or...........tackle maintenance.....cheaper and very worthwhile is replacing crankbait hooks and spinnerbait skirts and reel cleaning and lube.....not to mention practicing with that baitcaster that you got for Christmas. Tie on a bobber and chuck it on top of the snow in the back yard. Fishing is great and prepared fishing is even better. If you're having trouble with your baitcaster or cleaning a real or replacing a rod tip then now's the time to ask and get it figured out. The northeast is without a doubt some of the best fishing in the world.....let's be ready for it. JMHO Grampa
  23. Ah yes....the affects of a hard winter effect us all....John , don't forget that this is exactly why we have fishing forums.....Steam is built up all winter and 0 degree days don't help. So fellas just remember how many opinions that there really are.... I don't care if you weigh your fish or not, I don't even care if you are accurate........but you should. JMHO Grampa
  24. May 1 to Oct 31 I fish 3 days...MonDAY, ThursDAY, SaturDAY and any other DAY that I can get out.
  25. Exactly...That time of year the sun is still coming up from the southern hemisphere and shines North. Warmer water...more activity from cold blooded animals.....etc...etc...
