  1. There are a couple of rivers and a few reservoirs in the area that occasionally produce a few fish but you need to ask the locals about good access points.
  2. Been using the Xps long sleeve tees and World Wide Sportsman Shirts from BPS and had good luck...inexpensive and effective...
  3. Check the break strength of 4# Yo-Zuri.......By the way...all that spf and sun clothes does work...I just got a "Cancer Free" from my skin Doc...for the first time in 5 years.....whew... Grampa
  4. I'm not even gonna ask what kind of boat you have, unless it's a 35' Bertram, you'll probably be able to use it. Speed limit's 12mph...PM me for more details. Grampa
  5. So after 3 weeks of inactivity, I finally got back out for a while, yesterday. You know, the bluebird, high pressure, clear skies day after the storms. Well I went to Whitehall.....started out at 8:30 looking for active fish with a spinnerbait...not even a Pickerel...ok maybe a shallow running crankbait....there you go...a Pickerel...but that was it...ok how about a weighted sanko along the weed lines...another Pickerel...got to a friendly stick-up and threw a sluggo(surprise, surprise)...big headed LMB with no body weighed 2.7lb...6 hours later...5 LMB 5 Pickerel 1 Crappie 1 Redeared Sunfish...all deep in the weeds, and hard to catch,,,just like they're supposed to be after a front moves through.
  6. Bass Prp Shops carry these items in the Fly Fishing Department. Found them after an hour search, one day.
  7. Working on my third pair of gloves...also good for pickerel.
  8. See...now I love conversations like this...between my Buff mask and gloves and a good 100 spf sunscreen I finally got through a dermatology visit without being cut. It took five years but I finally made it. Use this stuff like your life depended on it.....it does. Grampa
  9. I bought some Camoflage worms once....put 'em in the boat...can't find 'em.....
  10. Wachusett Reservoir
  11. Someone gave me a fishing rod a long time ago...then I caught a few fish...then I bought some lures...then I caught a few more fish...then I bought a boat...then I caught some more fish...then I bought some more rods...then I bought a bigger boat...more fish...more lures...more boats...fish...lures...boats............I can stop any time I want to.
  12. 4" black curly tail worm, green pumpkin pepper or watermelon pepper senko.
  13. If I have to........Evan Williams, supporting the folks who support my sport. The rest of the time, Rotgut Vodka for Martinis, Rye Whiskey for Highballs and an occasional flavored brandy.
  14. Semi-retired...I'm one of those folks that you see aimlessly wandering around Home Depot with an orange apron on.
  15. Haven't fished the lake in 2 years, they were having some weed problems and closed the passages between lakes. Don't know what's open and what isn't but it was my home lake for many years. There are many quality fish and a multitude of places to catch them on many patterns.......if the areas are accessable. I personally got a state pin for a 15-14 brood salmon there and occasionally a 20+ tiger muskie holdover from 20 years ago is caught. I was in a tournament there when a 5lb smallie was caught. I've never caught a smallie there personally but...........maybe I'll go this week.
  16. Hmm...experience....well....the trailers that I was towing in 1977 had taillights that leaked if they weren't correctly sealed, that's true. The trailers that I have towed since 1995....a rangertrail....had sealed lights and lasted the entire time I owned the rig....8 years....Now it's a Triton trailer and still haven't blown a bulb. I guess people just have different experiences. Grampa
  17. Whoa....don't be pressured into a move you aren't prepared to make. You have a very nice boat that you use all the time......Think this one out. Grampa
  18. I didn't get there last year, due to circumstances beyond my control. This is normally a regular spot for me and have never had problems. This is a heavily frequented area for locals, as it affords them access to fish, party and jetski. I repeat, I have not personally known of any problems there and have fished alone during the week many times. As an aside, this is a stretch of river that also holds walleye, rare in eastern Mass.
  19. Not in a position to do much planning but I was thinking that maybe Merrimack River, Lawrence ramp, might be fun. Perhaps in early June. Anyone, anyone?
  20. This has been a very enlightening post.....if I was just starting out with a boat trailer, I think that I'd go with LED lamps and check all the chaffing spots for protective devices, and if I ever had a problem, then I'd repair it by soldering and shrinkwraping the connections and then protecting those spots again. I would use dielectric grease on all my connections and when I got to the boat ramp, I might not unplug my lights(might forget to plug them back in) they are sealed and waterproof anyway and if they leak then they should be replaced. That is what brings me to this forum in the first place. Every piece of information is important, as is every person's opinion, melodramatic or otherwise. JMHO Grampa
  21. First of all there is wind and wave action on every lake.....this is just another North-South northern lake, Champlain, finger lakes, Lake George etc. There are many sheltered areas on both sides of the border. The border is clearly marked with many bouys and a check point house. You must check in every time you cross the border. For all the obstacles that you may encounter, the fishing can be very rewarding.
  22. And don't forget to find edges, maybe the most important thing to remember is that fish relate to edges. Weeds, Dropoffs, Riprap, Bottom composition, Failen wood, The surface................they love edges, edges, edges.......don't forget edges.
  23. If you are that close to Newport, fhen don't forget Memphremagog, also filled with great smallies and some, bullet fast, lake trout who will hit crank baits and finesse plastics readily.
  24. Every time I see Mike Iaconelli explode during a tournament. I suggest to the tv set that he stop the nonsense and just continue to fish, but he and his behavior are one of the reasons the ratings for tournaments are so high. Some people just go to the races to see the wrecks. The question that comes to my mind is "How real is this loss of control?" and"Is he being compensated for his foolishness? How far away is the WWE?
