  1. I kind of dogged the BPS rods in another post. But I'm changing my view. I had a Loomis SBR that busted on me on it's 3rd use. I didn't even want to hassle with their return policy so I took it back and got a 2nd pro Qualifier for 80 bucks at BPS and another revo. I was really pleased with the 7'0 MH for working jigs that I got a 7'0 M for working lighter jigs and throwing spinnerbaits. I'm yet to miss a strike on them. They might be heavier but that's a none issue for me. Get the BPS rod.
  2. Isn't the Shimano Core $300+? It better not have any problems at the prices I see them going for online. I'm picking STXs off ebay for $160. I've had no issues with the STXs. The SX is a different story.
  3. I've got 1 Premier and 3 STXs. I bought a SX last and was not too happy with it because grinded when I reeled it. I realize this was an issue with that reel and not the whole SX line, but I never had any of those problems with the STX. I replaced that SX with another STX. I did notice the SX didn't cast as smoothly as the STXs. I think I like the STXs even more than the Premier. I agree with Micro. If I wanted to buy a cheaper Revo to use as a beater I'd go all the way down to the S. If you buy your STX on ebay you can get it in the 160 range. Which makes it an incredible deal on a quality reel.
  4. Being that "buddy" with the Loomis rods and the Carrot Stix I can say now that after fishing with the Pro Qualifier for 2 days it's not as sensitive as the Loomis rods or the Carrot and it's certainly not as light. My lighter rods have just as much backbone as the Pro Qualifier. I don't even think the Pro Qualifier is comparable to the Loomis rods. That said the Pro Qualifier will do for the applications I'm using it for. I got a 7'0 MH for pitching jigs and it is a good deal at 79 bucks. Certainly not worth full price but you can't find a better deal on something you plan on beating up. I've been fishing it with 3/8 jigs the past two days and haven't missed a strike yet. It's not that bad of a rod. They new model looks nice and the reel seat is more rubbery than hard plastic.
  5. I have a 6'6 MH Triumph that I bought for just stalking around the little ponds here. It's a decent deal for a decent rod. It feels very heavy compared to my Carrot Stix and Loomis rods.
  6. Not an STX but here's my Premier on the Carrot.
  7. STX and the Carrot balance together very nicely.
  8. That's funny I went to try out a 200 series Curado and the thing was huge compared to my Revos. I also tried the 100 series which was pretty close to size of the Revo. But it also that 1/4" play in the spool/handle situation that you mention. I was sold on the Curado and asked the sales man for 2nd one without the play, the next one he took out had the play as well. I left with another STX.
  9. I believe you can use any rod for any application you want. It might not feel right, but anyone can adjust to anything eventually. I've got the 6'9 M Parabolic and it's great, but it's my only parabolic rod and I initially had issues setting the hook with crank baits when I first got it so I could only imagine the frustrations senko fishing with it. It wouldn't be my first choice for senkos.
  10. I got the Premier first and had no problems with it. I then saw all the posts here about how some guys were liking the STX more than the Premier. So I got an STX and a STXHS. The STX looks cooler, but there is no way I'd say it performs any better than the Premier. You can't loose with either one. If you buy a Premier go the Ebay route I've seen new ones as low as $175.00. For that money it's the best light reel you're going to get.
  11. I'm starting to build up a collection again. After making this list I've noticed I need a new worm rod. Baitcasting 6'9 e21 Carrot Stix LTX M Parabolic - Abu Garcia Revo Premier 6'9 G.Loomis SBR812 M - Abu Garcia Revo STX 6'6 Shimano Convergence M - Daiwa Procaster-s153i 6'6 Shimano Convergence MH - Abu Garcia Revo STXHS 6'6 St. Croix Premier MH - Abu Garcia Black Max 3600 6'0 BPS COMPII MH - Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5600Ci Spinning 6'6 Browning Citori M - Daiwa Exceller 2000 6'0 Daiwa Eliminator MH - Shimano Syncopate
  12. Yep that would deffinatly be why it felt like a medium. At least Cabelas messed up and its not E21 making them weird. What do you call carrot fibers wrapped around a graphite core???I'd call it weird... Call it whatever you wanna.... But the one I got is great. I've had no issues with my medium parabolic and I've used it probably 10 times now just within the past 2 weeks. It seems incredibly sturdy. I will admit I'm holding off for a few months before stocking up on these because I want to see how much abuse it can handle. I snagged, fought, and landed a 10+ lb carp and it didn't snap in half. These things could be made out turnips for all I cared, but they are excellent rods at the price.
  13. I think the Premier and STX are both great and I fish them both side by side and can't really complain about either. My Premier coupled with my Carrot Stix make for an unbelievably light duo that I can cast all day. My Premier is just as smooth in reeling and casting as my two STXs.
  14. This year I upgraded to a Quantum Energy PT which I used for the first week of the season. One week after I got the Energy I picked up a Revo Premier for a steal on Ebay. Within hours I had a STX on it's way to my house and the Energy up for sale.
  15. Yeah Simmons is the place. I got mine in 2 days!
  16. "If you like what you already have why change..Just my two cents.." Well you might like what you have, but you may love something you've never even tried.
  17. There's tons of Revo posts in the archives. A quick search through them may find you whatever answer you're looking for.
  18. Cast further with the S? You should have more control over the brakes with the SX and STX so I'd think you could cast those further. But I don't think you can really go wrong with any Revo. I personally prefer the STX and Premier because of the Infinity II spool design, which disengages the spool from the drive train for longer and easier casts. My buddy has an SX and even though I've only casted it a few times that performed well. The S would be my last choice of all the Revos. Though I still think it's a great reel. My major qualm with the S is that you can't adjust the brakes like you can on the SX, STX, and Premier.
  19. The Premier just happens to feel like an STX on a diet. I've got both and they are hands down the best baitcasters I've owned in 15 years of fishing.
  20. This is a pretty redneck answer from a Yankee but I always use 10lb copolymer on my baitcasters, plain, simple, and casts a mile I guess if you were throwing those Carolina Rigs into some heavy cover and really had to yank a bass out the 10lb test might not do. However, that said. Living in Illinois our state record is 13.5 lbs, and you rarely hear of anyone catching bass in the 7+ range up here in Chicagoland. I'd have to hook up a bass plus 5 lbs of slop to put my line into any major stress situation.
  21. If you're patient sometimes you can get a SX for the price of S on ebay. Pick your dealer safely and you should be ok. I'd go for the SX over the S. I've never fished with an S but I like to be able to adjust the magnets on the go.
  22. Of those listed. Revo Premier and Revo STX. I had a Quantum Energy PT but the Revos didn't want it hanging on the rack with them.
  23. I have two mid 90s Convergences. They may not be as great as the Compre, but they are indestructable. All my mid 90s BPS rods have broken guides, but my Convergences are still in use and taking a lot of abuse.
  24. Is the Pro Max one of the new cheaper Revo models? I had a Quantum Energy PT for about a week and then got a Revo STX and Premier and had to sell the PT because it wasn't in the same league as the Revos. The Revo STX can be found on Ebay for about 135. I think you can get an SX for even cheaper though and that might put you closer to the Quantum PT price.
  25. I used a Quantum KVD all year for everything. I figured I'd upgrade and get a Energy PT Burner this off season. I loved it for the week I had it until I got my Revo Premier. Now the Premier is my favorite reel, the weight never really bothered me with the Energy, but the magnets really work better as does the brake on the Revo Premier. I think I'd take a good look at whatever Revo model is in the price range of whatever Quantum you are thinking about buying. That said, my KVD is still in my collection, it was a great deal for $75.00.
