  1. Did some more comparisons with the Core and Chronarch Ci4 last night. Both on the same rods and tried the same lures. Spinnerbaits slow rolling in deep water, the Chronarch has a smoother retrieve when stressed a bit. But as a top water reel on my Loomis Topwater rod the Core 50mg7 is nice and light. But I like the way the Chronarch Ci4 palms. I've got big hands, the Core 50mg7 almost gets lost in there. So it's really a toss up. I'm leaning towards selling the Core. I also compared them to a 2013 Metanium. Smoothest cranking on the Metanium. The Ci4 and Metanium both cast further than the Core as well, but not that much further. My finesse line is out for UPS delivery today so I'll finally get to compare the Alderbaran BFS to the Core 50mg7 this weekend.
  2. I've used the Core 50 MG7 and the Chronarch Ci4 the past two mornings. The Chronarch casts further and reels smoother than the Core.
  3. I'm happy as all heck! Is the Ci4 Chronarch an actual official replacement for the Core 50 MG7?
  4. Which is why I'd be hesitant to pit it against the new Chronarch Ci4. The Ci4 just doesn't have the years of proven quality. It's probably a fantastic reel and I love mine, but the core has what 5 years on it?
  5. I own a Ci4 Chronarch. The Core 50 MG7 feels completely different in hand but that's about all I can tell you. I can't wait to fish them side by side, but even after that if I did a review I'd probably do both reels and injustice.
  6. Thanks for all the input. I grabbed a core 50 Mg7 and a Alderbaran BFS from Japan last week. They both got here these week. The Alderbaran is a 2013 model and the Core certainly doesn't look dated next to it. Sadly I can't get out on the water until Thursday.
  7. Mine all range 6:4 - 8:0. I sold off my last Curado 200E5. I like many others don't do much deep water cranking. If I go on a trip and really need one I guess I'll just buy one.
  8. It had been awhile since I purchased a new reel until a few weeks ago when I picked up a Chronarch Ci4 6.4 gear ration at BPS. My previous reels date back to Curado 200e and Revo Premier Gen 2 models. So that's like 2 or 3 years of using those(pretty good for me). Now when I bought the Chronarch the kid at BPS working the reel desk talked me out of the Core, "its out dated next to the Ci4." I know, you shouldn't listen to the kid sat BPS, but heck I thought if this guy is talking down a more expensive reel infavor of something cheaper why should I argue? So two weeks later after reading through forum after forum post and trying to figure out specs(I'll admit I'm a bit lost). I still want a Core 50mg7...the 100 is tempting as well. Is anyone else still buying these? Am I wrong to disagree with the kid at BPS and pick a couple of these up?
  9. Good recommendations. Try getting your hands on both. I used to use Shimanos, then when the Revos came out I jumped to Abu. Last summer when the E5 and E7 were out I sold off my Revos for those. Now I'm in to processes of selling off my E5s and E7s for the 2010 Abu Revo Premier. I go back and forth on these, probably because I like trying new reels all the time. You can't loose with either of those reels.
  10. I fished a tournament last weekend and my boat partner had a Zillion and I have all Curados. I asked to try his Zillion and it wasn't 80-100 bucks better than my Curados. I like the brakes on the Curado, so that casted better for me and the Zillion wasn't any smoother on the retrieve than the Curado. The Curado is also noticeably lighter.
  11. Hmm does that make any sence? Sell both of your rods which I assume you have been happy with for some time bc a pro angler decides to cut ties with a sponsorship... hmmm Hmmm... and now after e21 came out and said there was a problem with those rods, my decision seems to make perfect "sence". Do you really think e21 would have come out and addressed this problem had Boyd Duckett not said anything?
  12. Wow! A 1993 Curado is worth more than my slightly used 1 year old revos.
  13. E21 had to come out with this statement, especially after losing Boyd Duckett in that fashion. I was a Carrot Stix guy but I sold both of mine after the Duckett incident so I guess now I'm a naysayer. Time is the only thing that will give me confidence in buying another e21 rod. Not a business statement.
  14. I didn't like the Citica. It felt grindy when cranking when compared to my Curado Es.
  15. I've been using my 3 E7s and 1 E5 for the past two weeks and I gotta say they are so much better than my Revo SXs.
  16. I just sold all my SXs for Curados. But hell I had to get one last Revo. Thanks for posting this!
  17. I sold both of my Carrots for Shimano Crucial Dropshots. Couldn't be happier.
  18. I dunno but I think it's an online thing. All of us fishermen who bring hobby to level of discussing and debating gear in online forms really want to move beyond just the actual hobby of fishing. Which if fine, it's just that we're all overly passionate about it. As for the Citica? Not an entry level reel in my opinion something around 50 bucks is "entry level". The Citica is a really nice reel!
  19. I just got a Curado E7. I'm using it for small plastics and jigs. Love being able to keep total control of the slack line when moving the bait with the rod.
  20. I've switched over from the Revo 6.4:1 to the Curado 7:1 and I really don't think there is THAT much difference. I'm using the 7:1 for everything including shallow water crank baits. I don't fish deep cranks unless I'm in a boat and haven't gotten around to getting an E5, or justifying it yet. frank stract told me earlier today, and I hope he doesn't mind me repeating this but it rang true and it was that the Curado E5 and E7 make an excellent 1-2 punch. You may wonder what they were thinking when you see it on paper though.
  21. A week now for me with the Curado E7. I've sold all my Revo SXs because these E7s cast like a dream and have little issues when in the wind. I just hope they last now.
  22. Thanks gents. I think I'm going to try to swap gears.
  23. I had a Premier first and it was one of the early models. The STXs I had were just as good if not better. I'd buy neither.
  24. I want something with a slightly slower gear ratio than my 7:1 Curados. Which of these two reel would you recommend?
  25. When I started baitcasting 10-15 years ago I used to buy sportmart specials. Abu Garcia Black Maxs and Shimano Lexicas. Both of those reels had an enormous amount of back play in the handles to the point of where you'd actually start to backlash if you reeled it back. 2007 was the first year I bought a baitcaster in 10 years and I wanted a Curado and the 200d had a little backplay in the handle so in my mind it felt cheaper than the Revo which had absolutely no back play. The Curado 200e series has no back play.
