  1. my local river produces nice big bass when the water is up, and its waaay up now. i am goin tomorrow morning. cant wait
  2. plecos and tilapia are everywhere. wait til you get a bowfin....for a minute you will think you have a monster bass lake tarpon is a good lake once you get familiar with it.
  3. k-marts everywhere have those 'rod riot $9.99' poles. its a piece of crap, but you can have 2! or just save up and get something decent.
  4. good post....i worked for sears back when they sold the fishing/boating stuff, and yep....people will steal all kinds of parts off the combos. try out everything before you buy it. sometime i'll post about the kid that took a big rapala lure out of the box and shoved it into his pocket. i had never seen a shoplifter ask for help before that one ;D
  5. at about 1000lbs you are probably getting near the max for weight capacity. as far as motor goes for small lakes, up to a 9.9hp should do ok, but depends on what you want
  6. my favorite is a 4'6" shakespeare micro lite paired with some cheap mitchell spinner reel i got from some other combo years back. i put about 14lb power pro braid on it and that is almost exclusively my worm rod. sounds weird, but i caught a 9lb 13oz bass on it and will use it again tomorrow. its got serious backbone if you can find one in medium action
  7. you probably like your truck, but how many payments did you have to make before the new wore off? if its lke me, pretty quick. if you got a boat now, and can buy one cash in a year, thats the better deal. your money, your choice
  8. similar situation here in fl. i got a trailer with my boat with no visible vin#, and the tag was to a camper.....so the tax collector office is going to issue a new vin. good luck
  9. nice fish. its easy to justify buying gear when you catch fish your first time with it too!
  10. i have seen this lots of times here in FL. it happens when large birds fly over and cast a shadow on the water that i guess the fish see and the fish maybe dont know if its an osprey or what. its crazy when it happens and you dont expect it
  11. it sucks to lose a big fish, and it sucks to see someone lose what you know would be their PB. i have seen my dad lose 2 fish that would have easily been his PB. one around 8 and one maybe 12 that pulled the canoe pretty good, and if we would have had a net, i might have been able to get her. i can only guess the size based on my PB, but i think the estimates are good, and i hated to see him miss them. is your line good and fresh? you think it might get brittle if its old? whatever the cause was, i feel for ya
  12. ive never been one to wear a life jacket on the boat, but recently my son has started joining us too. i make him wear one the entire time and he doesnt complain. i just figure i need to lead from example and wear mine too now.
  13. awesome. is your boat a rigid bottom?
  14. nice fish!
  15. hate 'em too. had to get a good size one out of my parents pool a while back. strange thing is, their house is not real close to water
  16. thanks y'all. simplejoe, i think i have narrowed it down to a tohatsu 6hp, and i already have a minnkota 40lb trolling motor w/ battery from my canoe. the local river i fish is min wake, so i really dont need anything bigger. i might go to some lakes around here that i wouldnt go in the canoe too
  17. the bait monkey will have his way with you, but you'll probably enjoy it
  18. yes...the canals. i went through your area last summer and was impressed by the places i could fish......but i was there for baseball, not fishing
  19. no more canoe for me! i found this in the local paper and picked it up. its a Grumman 14ft. built like a tank. i put a couple seats in it so far, but dont know what else i will do. i like to keep it simple.
  20. if he keeps pulling in fish like that he wont need weights!
  21. thats what its all about.
  22. i found the best for that is to locate cover or structure close to the deeper channels and work it good with a t-rig worm
