.45 is a great caliber. I've carried one for several years now. Right now I carry a 1911 Springfield 4" barrel.
I also have a 9mm. I carry that one once in awhile.
Anything over a 1/2 doesnt work all that great. Especially the farther casts or deeper the water. I fished one of those rods for years. At that time the jig I threw 99% of the time was a 3/8 finesse jig on that rod. It was a perfect match.
I'm actually looking at offering something similar to this for 2013. But an easy fix and the route I would go is the other way. Put a hitch hiker on a jig and cut off the weed gaurd or leave off.

I should probably take that off my site because I know they catch fish and its proven in the Fishing reports on Bass Resource regularly.
