  1. We used to have a warm water discharge on the river in our area but they shut it down a few years back. It's good for the river but it sucks for me. I fish until ice up, usually around December. Then, the auger and the Marcum get busted out.
  2. Chain pickerel
  3. Can't believe I'm saying this, but I am looking forward to ice fishing. Last winter was so warm we didn't have very much safe ice. The river didn't have any, which was a bummer because the winter before I had gotten into early morning walleye fishing. Nothing like sunrise on a frozen river in the middle of January. I'm not, however, looking past the fall smallmouth bite. Bring on the cooler temperatures!
  4. The tail fin on the first fish looks small because the fish isnt fully fanning it out. Simple as that. Also, the way you're holding the fish by the gill is pushing its head closer to the camera lense than the tail fin, giving the illusion that the tail is much smaller compared to its head. You also have it held at angle, and the tail isn't perpindicular to the lense, making it look even smaller. Hold them by the lip and the fish will hang straight and look more proportional for a picture. They all look like normal largemouth to me. Anyway, nice fish.
  5. Lol, okay. That goes for any QB, in any game. Sounds to me like you're nervous. Nervous that Manning is going to be torching the Raiders twice a year now. I would be if I were you.
  6. Meh. I doubt that. From what I've heard his surgery was a big success, and he looks sharp in camp.
  7. Mizmo Big Boys!
  8. Peyton Manning will make Bronco fans forget all about Tebow. So many people got swept up by the Tebow hype it's hilarious.
  9. Tragic results from the actions of a corrupt institution. Stinks for the players, its not their fault, but thats the breaks. Its not the NCAA's fault either. The blame rests on Sandusky, Paterno and anyone responsible for the cover up.
  10. See, when I hear this, it makes me feel like I've taken crazy pills. He didn't do enough, not even close. When you find out someone is raping children, you tell the POLICE. Not your superiors, THE POLICE. Unless, of course, you want it covered up because you don't want your beloved football program to be destroyed. Good grief.
  11. Not harsh enough if you ask me. Pedo State University should have been burned down. It was an intstitutional rape factory, disgusting.
  12. Susquehanna Fishing Tackle 100 ct bags of Mizmo tubes and 100 ct bags of barrel tube jigheads. Free shipping on orders over 50$. Check it out.
  13. Don't believe it.
  14. I hate sleeping on the couch. I have a memory foam mattress and its the best thing since sliced bread.
  15. Yo Zuri ZZ Pop Jitterbug
  16. My poppers of choice are the Yo Zuri ZZ Pop or the Pop n' Splash- but those are both hard to find now. Skitter-pops and Chug Bugs are good alternatives. Buzzbaits also work great. When the water in your river gets really low and clear, make sure you you throw topwater around riffles, both upstream in the push, and downstream where the riffle is really churning up the water and the bottom starts to gradually drop back off. Throw into the fast current and work the bait quickly. It's some of the most fun you'll ever have. Also, don't forget to try a Jitterbug at night.
  17. More litterboxes and a trip to the vet to see if it's not something else causing the accidents.
  18. Smallies go CRAZY for mayflys. During the hatches is one of the rare times that smallmouith will key in on one forage and ignore any offering that doesn't look like it. Are they white mayflys? I use a Number 1 (or 2? cant remember) silver mepps agilia with white hair during the white mayfly hatches on the river. I burn it right across the surface. It's the first thing I tried that worked during a hatch and it got instant results. When I first tried it, I didn't think they would notice the spinner's tiny tuft of white hair among the sea of white mayflys dotting the surface of the water, but I was wrong. Boy was I wrong. I always keep one on me now.
  19. You're welcome, yep, sure, mmhmm, no problem. All acceptable.
  20. I prefer smallmouth because they fight harder, are more aggressive, and I love the acrobatics. Plus I love fishing in rivers and catching smallies in fast current.
  21. Don't know what you mean by "closed boots", because all boots are "closed." If they're "open" then they're not boots, they're sandals. Also, the waders in the link are stocking foot, you can't "attach" boots to them. The boots go over the neoprene booties (which are attached to the waders and are waterproof) and protect the booties from getting cut up. Whatever brand you choose, you'll have to decide on either felt or lug soles. Felt is best for algae covered, slippery rocks, while lugs are best for muddy banks. I use lugs with my waders, because I only use them in cold water when algae is not a factor but the clay banks are slippery from spring rain. In the summertime, I wet wade as I said before, and I have a pair of felt soled wading shoes for slippery rocks. Just get the best you can afford. Or get the cheapest ones, but don't expect alot more than a season or two out of them. But thats okay, since they are seperate from the waders and can just be replaced.
  22. Inline spinners can be lethal and don't get enough play by alot of anglers.
  23. Keep a tighter line, pay closer attention, and set your hook sooner. Not uncommon to deep hook a fish while fishing weightless plastics, but 1 in 5 is very high. Also, there is a really nifty trick to getting the hook out of a fishes gullet that greatly reduces the damage to the fish. I would describe it but I know I would mess it up. Pretty sure there is a link to it floating around on this site somewhere that has step by step pictures.
  24. I do ALOT of wading In the summer time,I just wear shorts and a pair of wading shoes or sandals when the water is warm. Thats usually mid/late Maythrough September in the southern teir of NY If you need waders always go for breathable. They are lighter and more comfortable than any other type out there (and just as warm if you layer up underneath.) I would avoid the waders with boots attached. The boots will almost always wear out before the waders, and then you have to buy a whole new set. With stocking foot waders, you just buy a new pair of boots. Simms are hard to beat but are pricey. I highly reccomend Cabela's: great waders, warranties and customer service. Like I said though, in the summer, just put some shorts on and get in!
