  1. Far as I can figure, it really doesn't matter with topwater. Its gonna look black to them from below no matter what color it is. Just to be safe, I like anything with a white belly in the day, black at night. But any color will most likely do.
  2. I bet they could pick up Plaxico Burress cheap if they wanted to. ;D
  3. The only bass I eat come from a lake that needs culling. I keep a few 12-16 inchers a year. Everything else goes back.
  4. I've had pretty good day's through the ice. Is that cold enough? ;D
  5. You got to give them recognition, although I would guess the Giants don't want it. They are very happy flying below the radar and being considered the underdog. And like I said, there is a very tough road ahead of them. I can't even say that they're a shoe-in for the playoffs when they've still got three divisional games to play in a row: 1. at Washington: gonna be a tough game. 2. Philly at home: trap game 3. at Dallas: TO and Romo are getting warmed up. Throw in games against a good Carolina team and a scrappy Minn. Vikings, and you've got a tough gauntlet to run. But the Giants have the tools to do it, and they're hungry.... 8-)
  6. Still the team to beat? Did you bump your head when you jumped on the wagon RW? I can make a case that the Titans were never the team to beat, but I'll let you have your fun! No, the team to beat right now leads the league in scoring and has the best rushing game. The team to beat has had a offense and a defense ranked in the top five all season. The team to beat has one of the pass rushs in the leauge. The team to beat has just defeated five (count em') teams with winning records in a row. They're 10-1, and they're the defending SuperBowl Champs: My NY "Football" Giants! Now the Jints have the toughest remaining schedule in the league, so there is a long road ahead of us. But you need to remember that this is by and large the SAME team that won it all last year, and they're hungry!
  7. Hate to say I told ya so! The Jets are too hot right now. Titans got thumped. Which might be a good thing in the long run. It'll take the pressure off of them and bring them back down to earth.
  8. OK, I'll bite.... If they wre taking bass, I'd watch and make sure they are doing it legally. If they were, all I can do is spit on the ground, curse, and shake my fist in the air (not at them of course). Your right, I'd be a little ticked. But.... They're taking carp. And by your own admission, the lake is full of them. I wouldn't worry about it. And to be honest, this is the first time I've heard anyone cry over a dead carp! ;D Personally, I wish they'd all get caught by the meat hogs.
  9. Brett and the Jetts are hot, I think Titans fall next Sunday, and/or to Pittsburg.
  10. Gotta love fall. Beautiful fish! I almost got shot opening day of goose season this year. Couple of guys floating down river and shooting (illegal) in fog you couldn't see fifty feet in. > The vast majority of hunters are responsible but there are clowns in every town. Be careful out there!
  11. That is about how well they fight! Yes it is true that they look like a hybrid, but I assure you thats not the case. They share commonn ancestors, and if I could find a cladogam that I don't have to pay for I'd share it. ;D "Hybrid" is a term that is thrown around WAY too often. Most "hybrids" aren't hybrids at all, but just genetically unique indviduals from a certain species. Furthermore, speciation by hybridization is very rare, as the vast majority of hybrid offspring are inviable, infertile, etc.
  12. Uh oh...internet tough guy..... ;D
  13. Rockies...worthless? Dredge/wash and bread them in panko. Deep fry until golden brown. Little homemade tarter suce. You'll sing a different tune for sure. Not a hybrid, but in same family as bass/crappie/sunfish: centrarchidae. Nice fish!
  14. ;D The introduction of carp to our native waters is widely regarded as one of the worst stocking descisions ever made. I'd tell them thanks too. Then I'd send 'em to everywhere else I knew carp swam. Hey, could be worse. They could be keeping every bass they caught instead.
  15. Alot of guys prefer hair (specifically hare) jigs in cold water. I've caught smallies on both in the winter. The jig I prefer, however, is the tubeJIG. PS. I just read your story that's prompting this question. Good luck on your hunt! I hope you get to dance with her again, but for the whole number next time!
  16. Fishing with live bait is like bowling with the gutter-bumpers. For me, getting back to basics is picking up a jig, not a bait bucket.
  17. I'm with Raul. Around pre-spawn/spawn time, I'm concerned about the full moon. The rest of the time, I say follow RW's advice. Go whenever you can.
  18. Wait, I thought down south its pop, and up north its soda. Here in my part of NY its soda. A Coke is a Coke. A Dr. Pepper is a Dr. Pepper. Got it? Hey, who likes birch beer? Love that stuff.
  19. Here's my formula: 1. Got to Wal-Mart, pay twenty dollars for a digital scale. 2. Weigh sack of sugar on scale to make sure its accurate. 3. Go catch a fish. 4. Carefully hang fish on scale and obtain ACTUAL weight! Isn't that amazing! Now I know this is a wild concept, but I prefer using a scale. Weighing fish by measurements can be pretty close, but they can also be completely bogus. Hanging a fish on an accurate scale is the only way. Only twenty bucks, people! Only twenty bucks! Just get one! Put down those lures your probably not going to use, walk over to the gadgets aisle, and pick up a scale! I feel like I've taken crazy pills! ;D
  20. You have a good point, but you don't see smallies come unbuttoned as much when they jump, even though they jump more often. Big largemouth head shake and it makes the hole where the hook point entered get bigger, making the hook just slide out. When the smallie jumps, there's not much head shake. Hope I worded that right. Really? I never have problems with LM throwing the hook on the jump, but there are days when the smallies can do it at will. If smallies grew 15-20 lbs, there would be no reason to fish for LM. Period. Could you imagine the fight of a 20 pound SM? The same athletiscism of a 4 pounder in a 20 pound body? LM would be looking for a new job! ;D
  21. :-? Normally, when I encounter a situation like that, I take my rod and snap it over my knee, throw my senkos in the trash, and go bowling. Seriously though, what was the question? ;D
  22. I only watched 10 mins of it and I want them back! ;D One word: corny.
  23. Thats a beautiful creek. Great pictures!
  24. 4 1/2 on the button!
