  1. X2 on the Perception Frogginstein showed. I'm over 200 lbs and I have no trouble with mine. If you research the Perception, one knock on it is some complain it sits low in the water. I've never had an issue with water coming in and I've fished in some nasty windy conditions. I haul mine on the roof of my Honda. I hold it overhead and lay it into a set of "J" shaped kayak carriers and strap it down. I've seen devices that fit into the trailer hitch receiver of a pickup that are used to haul canoes and kayaks.
  2. As long as it's there it doesn't matter to me. My daughters are always getting 'stranded' because they think it refills itself.
  3. The Square A's are still $1.97 on the BPS site.
  4. NetBait Tiny Paca Chunk trailers. At 2" they're the perfect size for smaller jigs. You can get them for $1.72 a bag at BPS online. I'm pretty sure the sale ended yesterday but they're still on the site today at that price. I would have gave you a link but I can't make links work like I used to on the old site
  5. That's more fun than anyone should be allowed to have I've never had anything close to a numbers day like that. Well done.
  6. Check you out fishin' with a t shirt on... We have a ways to go here for that. Nice fish. Two chunks like that on the same day is a beautiful thing.
  7. I suck at posting pics....here's the fish
  8. Got this toad yesterday in the cold and rain throwing, of all things, a BPS "Crappie Maxx" crankbait in a watermelon splatter pattern. She was 17" long. I don't carry a scale but she was well over 5 lb. This is where a smooooth drag pays off.
  9. It's all in your head. I spent last season trying new baits too often and got away from my fishing strong point - light and ultra light tackle. I lost focus on what I was doing and why I was doing it. I was going through the motions. It was my worst fishing year ever. This winter I cleared out my tackle bags and went back the basics. I started the season with a clear head and focus on what works for ME, not what the latest trends are. I'm off to a great start this year. Your zone is still there, it's behind all of the clutter.
  10. I'm sticking with the old reliable tube. Nobody hardly uses them out here and that's fine by me. Let 'em throw Senkos....
  11. A thick walled tube (Yum Vibra King for example) rigged weedless on a 3/0 EWG hook and internally weighted. Slime it up with your favorite attractant - more for the lubrication to keep the plastic from clinging to the stems and leaves - and fish it throughout the pads. Nah, nevermind. Nobody fishes tubes in pads...
  12. Years ago my first 5 lb bass was caught when I overthrew a ballhead jig and plastic onto the bank from my jon boat. As I was trying to get it free from the grass, it popped out and into the water where it got freight trained by the fish. A few times over the years I have caught fish after picking out a backlash after throwing a worm. It sucks when that happens because they're usually gut hooked by then. Have you ever caught any under unusual circumstances ?
  13. Tubes, worms and grubs. Tubes are versatile, grubs are great moving plastic and worms for the bottom.
  14. You wouldn't appreciate them as much if they were available year round. You would be sick of them within six months. When I was a kid there was one time they were putting packs of Starburst candy inside a plastic bag that had an advertising circular in it and hanging it on doorknobs. My friends and I went through the apartment complex we lived in and got as many as we could, probably 20 packs each. To this day I get nauseous just looking at them
  15. The starter itself may be bad - the heat you spoke of may be the starter drawing a lot of amps in an attempt to crank the engine. Consider removing the starter and having it bench tested. While you're at it, have the batteries load tested as well. Otherwise you'll be throwing money at it until it's fixed.
  16. Yeah, I've heard that before and for years I stuck to it but trouble free line appeals to me more. Believe me I tried it all from using KVD to letting all of the line out and reeling it back in. It is what it is...
  17. 6' 6" is the smallest ul rod I would get. Trying to throw small stuff on short ul rods can be frustrating. Look at the Fenwick Elite Tech River Runner line of ultralight and light rods I use braid on my ul rig. Even the best mono will eventually let you down. It's the nature of the beast with small spinning reels. I use 4 lb diameter braid with a mono leader. Stick with the line ratings on the rod. Pretty much any bait is available in ul sizes these days. 1/8 oz crankbaits, tiny poppers, plastics, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, jigs and trailers.....you name it. Strike King makes good cranks and jigs. Use any technique the situation calls for.
  18. For the last three weekends I was tearing them up on Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow crankbaits. Today it was a Strike King Bitsy Bug 1/16 oz jig with a NetBait Tiny Paca Chunk trailer. Can you tell I like throwing small baits ?
  19. I just got a half dozen of these...http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Crappie-Maxx-Crank/product/73316/-1335949 ...in the 1/8 oz 1.5" size. Small cranks have been doing good by me this season. These appear to be well made. For $2.99 a pop I'll take a chance.
  20. Over twenty years ago my buddy and I are fishing his grandfather's farm pond. I wanted to get to another spot which required me to climb a small hill. As I got to the top, I was face to face with a huge female goose sitting on her clutch of eggs. She starts honking and flapping her wings. I about crapped myself and went tumbling backwards back down the hill, my tacklebox dumping it's contents the entire way. I'm laying there with grass and leaves all over me as my buddy is in tears. I hate geese to this day.
  21. Last year I strayed away from my ultralight and small baits in general. It was one of my worst fishing years ever. There were other things I did that contributed to it, such as trying too many different baits too often and losing focus on what I was doing. One of the hottest summers on record didn't help matters either. Speaking for myself, I clearly saw positive results when I started using smaller baits. It's a technique that's worked well for me. Not everyone will embrace it, just as throwing swimbaits isn't for everyone. Both methods catch fish. Funny you hardly ever hear anything about Mr. Twisters in a 'serious' forum such as this, as if they're somehow not worthy. They are some fish catching machines.
  22. There are two types of reviews - those from people who have actually fished with the product and reviews that start with "I heard"....disregard the latter, usually nothing more than parrot squawk. Learn to read between the lines and you can get quite a good bead on different reels right here. I like Pfluegers and Abu's, some here wouldn't use either as a paperweight. In the end it's what YOU like.
  23. South Jersey here (where are all of the Jersey guys period ? ) Been doing ok the last few weekends, especially when the sun is out. Tiny crankbaits on ultralight have got me a few nice bass and a ton of crappie. Only catch on plastic has been one small bass on a 4" worm. This recent cold snap sucks....
  24. Prety much all I use are small lures anymore. 1/8 oz Strike King cranks are hot for me now. Last spring I nailed a 5 lb bass on a 2" Senko rigged wacky on an Owner Mosquito hook. As for "no action" baits, at times they are what's needed. I've been known to rig 2" tail sections of old stick worms on a 1/16 oz ball head jig and crush all species, including crappie, bass and pike. The biggest load of BS in fishing is "Gotta have big baits to catch big fish"
