  1. Whispers to bass. What do ya' tell em' ? Do they whisper back ?
  2. Done. Did I win the car you promised ?
  3. Line from my original post: Boy, I called that one........
  4. If you are going to hiking down through rocks and such, consider getting a backpack. Cabela's makes several different fishing backpacks, but really, any one will do. Just get some Plano utility boxes for your tackle and you're set. That will leave your hands free for balance and support while you are hiking down to your spot. Safety first
  5. You might want to get hold of a schematic of the reel to see if: It's assembled correctly and The drag stack is assembled correctly
  6. The record only exists in YOUR mind. You either believe it or you don't. Hannon's opinion is just that, an opinion. And you know how that old saying about opinions goes... I've said it here before. If the record was broken tomorrow, there would be naysayers right off the bat. Perry's critics have cited (rightfully so) lack of pictures and documentation. The fact that it was the 1930's before the age of digital cameras, computers, etc. only fuels the fire. In 75 years, people would look back on a 2009 'record' fish with the same skepticism. It's human nature.
  7. I throw the usual stuff in an unusual way - for instance, I'll rig a small (2 1/2 to 3") tube on a straight shank #1 or 2 worm hook with a splitshot crimped behind the hook eye for weight. I'll swim it straight in, sometimes I'll pump it and pause it. The key is very little weight, which gives the tube more "hang time" in the strike zone. I also will run Rapala floating minnows just under the surface with a steady slow retrieve. Just change something a little bit, no matter how ridiculous you may think it is.
  8. Howie better bring some tools to get that thing right again..
  9. DING ! We have a winner ! Congratulations BigBassGuy, you may select a prize from the top shelf....
  10. Who is the guy in Burley's new avatar and who is the character he portrays ?
  11. What was he gonna do with it if he got it home ? Whittle something ?
  12. That was cool. If you didn't show them, they would have got frustrated and gave up.
  13. .....says Doug Hannon in this month's issue of Field and Stream. Here is the paragraph: "I don't think there is a world record bass in Florida. If it happens, it'll happen in California, Texas or Mexico. It's important to be honest about this catch. George Perry's record has lasted more than 70 years, and to be quite honest, it isn't real. The first (certified) 20 - plus pound bass (since Perry's fish) was Dave Zimerlee's 20- pound 15-ounce largemouth caught in California. His fish was 26.75 inches long with a girth of 28 inches. Perry claimed (his 22-pound 4-ounce bass was) 32.5 inches long with a girth of 28.75 inches. It is preposterous to assume that adding almost 6 inches in length and 3/4 inch in girth would only add about 1.3 pounds. The fact that no pictures were taken and that no parts of the fish ever survived the fish fry is telling as well. Perry's fish was probably 13 pounds." This is sure to stir the pot. The entire article is pretty good, that was only one paragraph. Here's a couple of tidbits I found interesting: Most large bass (over 15 pounds) were caught in 6 feet or less of water. (according to his research) He claims 90% of his 10 pound bass came on a 7 inch straight tail worm.
  14. Exactly. Another thing, bump up the size/quality of your treble hooks. A larger red treble hook in the back has been known to make a (topwater) difference for me. x2 Good quality hooks make all of the difference. For example, Jitterbugs are a great bait with horrible stock hooks. A lot of baits have poor quality hooks out of the box.
  15. I use a very small sharpening stone. A few light strokes is all you need. Most hook files are too course to get a sharp point. If you can't drag the hook point across your thumbnail without it digging in, it's sharp enough. If the hookpoint skids across your thumbnail, it needs sharpening.
  16. Sharkbite - South Jersey here, yes to night fishing now. I've been at it about 5 or 6 weeks now, caught quite a few. Really cool nights will slow things down, but from here on out it will only get better.
  17. Rodney to Mrs. Smails at the dinner dance: "Whoa, I'll bet you were somethin' before electricity" "You wanna make 14 bucks....the hard way ?" "Someone step on a duck ?" "This steak still has marks where the jockey was hittin' it"
  18. Blew me out of my chair. And I'm an old fuddy duddy stuck in the Seventies rock fan. She deserves to go very far.....
  19. Right on. Screaming at people who prepare your or handle your food in any way is a risky proposition. My wife's aunt is notorious for sending food back multiple times. She probably does it at least 7 out of 10 restaurant visits. I shudder to think what she's ingested over the years
  20. Man, this could go on for days......... "Spalding, get your foot off the boat " "You'll get nothing and like it" "Hey, you scratched my anchor"... After Rodney drops his yacht's anchor through the Judge's sailboat. The golf course employees laying odds on whether or not Spalding picks his nose and if he eats it...... One of the best comedies period.
  21. I've been a die hard Trilene XL fan for years, still am. Picked up some Sufix on clearance at Wally World last year for $4.00 a spool. This is excellent line also. I would use either one with no problems.
  22. What type reel ? - casting or spinning ? What # test line ? What brand ?
  23. You're not crazy. I'll bet most succesful baits were laughed at before they became mainstream. "That thing's ridiculous. It'll never catch anything" BTW, I fish Strike King Bitsy tubes on the surface with an unweighted #2 straight shank hook. It's a killer when they're surface feeding.
  24. Years ago, me and my buddy fishing his grandad's farm pond. I climb a small hill to get to a different spot. When I get to the top, I'm face to face with a huge p_ssed off female Canadian goose guarding her eggs. As she's squawking and screeching and flapping her wings, I'm tumbling backwards back down the hill, tackle box contents flying everywhere, my buddy laughing uncontrollably........
  25. x2 The Trion is about as bulletproof as a reel can be. I have the 25 size on a UL with 4# mono. Been spooled by an 8# carp, caught literally hundreds of fish over the two years I've owned it. What's line twist ? ;D Seriously, this is one bad _ss little reel. Snookalot, I agree 100% about the handle. It's the ONLY thing I would change if I could. As for the Pflueger rods, never owned one, but I imagine they wouldn't be that horrible......
