  1. No way. My part of the world is too noisy already. Plus it interferes with the voices in my head.......
  2. That would depend on a couple of things: Spinning rods have the larger first guide, that takes up a little more room. It also depends on how you pack the tube. You may fit more by staggering the rods, by that I mean don't have all of the handles at one end.
  3. Put one of us in a boat with Ike, KVD, whoever. Give them the 'Snoopy' combo, while we get our choice of any rig we want. It's no contest. The ONLY thing high end gear does is enhance the experience. Period. I fished worms almost exclusively back in the Eighties and early Nineties. Always caught fish. Back before Senkos and the like. I still have most of my gear from back then. I could feel the taps back then, though I've moved on to nicer gear. Nicer gear for me is lighter gear, not so much 'sensitive' gear. My opinion is that a lot of guys get caught up too much in the gear itself, especially the names. I think most of this 'technique specific' crap is just that - crap. Keep it simple, shut up and go fishing already. The day a fish pokes it's head out of the water and asks "Whaddya fishin' with ?" is the day I'll change my mind on this subject.
  4. Perhaps PVC tubes and end caps ? They make PVC pipe in small enough diameters so you could have an individual tube for each rod. They could be custom cut for length and you could glue foam in the end caps to protect the butts and tips. Not much to look at, but they would do the job.
  5. I just started this year with braid. Speaking only for myself, I still have to get used to it. I love the strength, sensitivity and how it handles, I just have to tone down on my hooksets a bit, as I have missed quite a few fish by being too aggressive. I don't blame this on the braid at all, just 25 years of mono fishing. No biggie, I'll figure it out.
  6. All good baits, there's a reason they're still around after all these years. Guy's aint buyin' 'em for nostalgia. One thing (my opinion) I do is upgrade the factory hooks. They flat out suck eggs.
  7. x2 on the Sufix. I was a diehard Trilene XL fan (still am) for years. Picked up some Sufix Elite last year on clearance for $4.00 a spool. Have been very happy with it. Just might be my new favorite mono.
  8. Well, if your going to be that way about it, I won't tell about the time I pulled a harpoon out of a whale at the Jersey shore......... :
  9. Used to go there around this time of year. Kingfish were hitting then. See if you can Google "Outer Banks bait and tackle" and try to get the phone # of a local tackle shop. They'll have the best and most recent info.
  10. Just go and buy the Pflueger already..........
  11. That aint Afghanistan, that's the gas station near my house..... 8-)
  12. You're right on when you mentioned the crappy hooks. Going up one or two hook sizes helps, as does going with better quality hooks. They recently had a discussion on the tackle thread about this. Someone was griping about top $ baits with crappy hooks out of the box. So it's just not the cheaper baits. Here's something I started doing last year with a lot of success: On this type hook - http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20291&id=0030842113363a&navCount=4&podId=0030842&parentId=cat20291&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IK&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20291&hasJS=true I crimp a split shot behind the hook eye. Then feed the eye end up through a tube and poke the eye through the top center of the tube from the inside. The splitshot is only to keep the tube from sliding down the hook. I use very small shot, a 1/0 hook on a 3" finesse tube. I should mention I use the thin wire hooks to a) keep the weight down and they are brutally sharp. When the topwater bite is on, this rig can be worked close to the surface and they will kill it. I'm not telling you I have 100% hookups, but darn close. The fine wire hooks practically set themselves. I can't tell you why this works so good for me, maybe it's because they're not used to seeing a tube worked on / near the surface. They usually inhale it. Also easier to remove than multiple treble hooks.
  13. 2%. I only drink milk in the winter months, have no taste for it when the weather warms up.
  14. You REALLY wanna make 'em sweat ? Pour a little oil or antifreeze on the floor under something they just worked on, then ask them "Is that from that car ?"
  15. Also known as the 'Top Loader' - an evil one indeed....
  16. Here's an AC tip - NEVER let your dog pee on the outside unit (specifically the condenser coils). Spring of 1996, wife is pregnant, wife hates heat with a passion. First hot spell. Wife turns on AC. Nothing but hot air. Wife calls husband at work to complain. Husband says "Whaddya' want me to do about it now ?". Wrong answer. Husband calls friend /AC contractor Dan, begs Dan to move us up on list. Meet Dan at house. 30 minutes later Dan shows me cooling fins and tubes turned to dust. Asks me "Does Butkus pee on the unit ?" "I dunno, I'll ask him" One coil in the United States, it's in Texas. Whole new unit 20 minutes away. You know how this ends.........$$$$$$$ Apparently, the ammonia and other compounds in dog urine have no problem eating through the paper thin tubes and fins on modern AC units. If you've got a four legged friend, heads up.
  17. Anyone used these ? Any thoughts ? Grabbed a pack the other day because when I was in the aisle, they jumped off the rack into my basket. All kidding aside, they look like they might produce. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0049287122371a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=yum+doozie&Ntk=Product_liberal&sort=all&Go.y=10&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&Go.x=20&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1
  18. My mother in law just beat cancer - the last tests showed it was gone. She's 76 years old. It was not an easy fight, the chemo treatments were downright brutal. But she did it. Best wishes to your girlfriend. From what the other guys have said, hopefully she'll get through this OK.
  19. funny!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D when i read "Seen this done to newbie mechanics in the shop" i was expecting it to be about the trick where one of the older guys asks the newbie to get him a left handed screwdriver. Wire stretcher Metric adjustable wrench Can of compression
  20. Awesome. I can still remember taking my two daughters fishing for the first time.
  21. Seen this done to newbie mechanics in the shop. One of the older guys will put a funnel down the front of his pants, so the wide part is facing up towards his chin. He then tilts his head back, closes his eyes and balances a quarter on his chin. Then he slowly tilts his head forward, the object being to drop the quarter into the funnel. Several other guys will cheer him on and try it themselves. All of this is done only to stoke the curiosity of the newbie. Then, the newbie is asked if he'd like to try. When his head is back with his eyes closed, a large cup of water is poured into the funnel.
  22. Just watchin' my Flyers self destruct before my eyes............... As much as I hate to say it, Boston is on fire and will be hard to beat. I just hate the Penguins and that little *itch Crosby.
  23. Find another place to fish. Are you sure the chemical is strictly for changing the water color or is it for algae / weed / or insect control ?
  24. Chris, in my opinion, you owe it to yourself to check out Pflueger's reels. The President or the Supreme would fit your needs well. The Supreme with it's magnesium frame is awesome. Light as a feather, flawless line management, butter smooth drag. I know you are a braid guy, I have braid on mine and have had zero troubles. It retails at $99. You will NOT find a finer magnesium reel at this price. Don't let the extremely light weight fool you, it's a solid reel. Then again, those Okuma's are some of the heavier reels on the market. Most other reels will probably feel funny to you in comparison As far as the Shimano thing you mentioned, I had an intermittent binding issue with my Sahara, but I've had bail issues over the years with other models. That's what led me to look elsewhere for reels. I'm very happy with my Pfluegers. Here is the link to their site so you can check out the entire line: http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/home.html
