  1. Baby seal fur and melted polar ice cap water. I use aerosol cans to spray the seals in the eyes. This accomplishes two things - spraying them in the eyes stuns them so I can club them. The use of aerosol cans hastens the melting of the icecap, thus insuring a steady supply of the water. Take that PETA.
  2. I laughed so hard I, I, I,...................Whoops gotta go.........
  3. I don't own a President, but I have a Pflueger Trion (towards the bottom of the Pflueger scale) and a Pflueger Supreme (top of the line) Both are great reels, you'll have no problem with the President.
  4. Good for you. Ya gotta start somewhere, no one was born knowing how to repair a reel. One more tip - a lot of reel schematics are on the small side. If you have access to a copier that can enlarge, it makes things easier to reference while you're working. BTW, thanks offering the cat. The answer is no
  5. Put on some long pants, load up with bug spray and get a machete. Now go to some of those ponds and look for areas that are inaccesible and carve yourself a path there. Most ponds have X number of fishable spots that have been beat to death. How many times have you looked at a spot you couldn't reach and thought "Man, there's gotta be some pigs back there"...... OR fish those same ponds at night or in the rain. You will be pleasantly suprised.
  6. I tend to have success with a certain bait or technique, then abandon most others. For instance, I fished worms for years because it was easy for me. I still fish the worm, but now I'm into throwing I guess what you'd call swimming jigs - ball head jigs with any number of plastics on. I catch ore than enough fish to keep me happy, I'd just like to master something new, like crankbaits or jigs.
  7. Tell us what exactly you are looking for and there are plenty of Pflueger, Shimano, Daiwa, Abu, etc. guys here that can get you where you're going.
  8. You Hadda bring that up huh : Or a trolling motor......... : The body could be Rick the *ick from Muddy's trolling motor story. Hope you got an alibi Muddy
  9. This is the story I have heard. They called it the "Tourist Rig" as I recollect.
  10. While your at it, put the cat in another box and ship him somewhere.....
  11. In a snowstorm no less. Barefoot.
  12. Grow one of those bushy Super Mario Brothers moustaches. Then no one will notice a few stragglers hanging out of your snot holes.
  13. Keep in mind the guys you mentioned WERE the KVD's, the Ikes, the Reeses, etc. of their generation. They smoked the generation that preceeded them. The same fate awaits KVD and the current crop of anglers. Absolutely NO disrespect intended, it's just the evolution of the sport. It applies to just about everything these days. My middle school age daughters take math that I didn't learn until high school. Somewhere out there is a twelve year kid no one has heard of fishing from a bank. You'll know his name in ten years when this comes up again in a future forum; "What ever happened to......?" Grigsby, Clunn, Nixon and the rest laid the groundwork for the current ruling class. The cycle continues.......
  14. That brings back memories. 10 years old, fishing with my buddy. Watching my entire rig dragged off the bank of Newton Creek by a catfish ;D Learned my lesson. A half hour of casting with a sinker and a bare hook got my pole back. No, no fish on the end either.
  15. He needs to revive Beavis and Butthead. Some of the funniest stuff that ever was.
  16. I used to change truck tires years ago (tractor/ trailer) 22" and 24" The smaller the tire, the tougher they are. Anyone who's done it will back me up on this one. You had your work cut out for you.
  17. They named it golf because all of the other four letter words were taken.
  18. And everyone made fun of Pflueger for sending customers new reels when they sent them in for warranty repairs...... : Maybe a couple of ticks on the Lame - O - Meter there, but it seems like Quantum rung the bell on that one.
  19. Thank you. When ALL of the coals are ashed over, it's time to cook. Not a minute before.
  20. OK, so which is it - Charcoal or gas ? I'm a charcoal guy. I have a Weber kettle grill for quick burger/ dog meals and I have a New Braunfels smoker grill for bigger meals or smoking. It's got the offset firebox for slow indirect cooking, but you can set it up for coals directly under the cooking grates for direct heat. I figure the gas guys outnumber the fire guys. I know gas is quicker, more convenient, etc. I still like lighting the fire, cracking open a cold one and watching the heat shimmer away....... Mmmmmmmmmm I love me some Barbeque
  21. Remembering my father. WWII Veteran, United States Navy, Pacific Theater. Everything I am is because of him. Hats off to all of the others, past, present and future
  22. Downsize, downsize, downsize. I fish primarily light tackle to begin with, about 50/50 light and ultra light. I did a lot of reading up on light tackle a couple of years ago and it really opened my eyes. It appeals to more than panfish. Just yesterday, I was out for about three hours and landed eight fish. Four white perch, one yellow perch and three LMB, the largest going about 2.5 lbs. Not bad for goofing around with the ultra light. All but one of the bass were taken on a 1/16 oz jighead with a 1.5" Yum Curltail grub. The last bass went for a 3" Slider worm T rigged on a little #1 Gamy EWG hook, with a tiny splitshot at the top of the worm just to give it that extra little 'oomph'. I've caught more than my fair share of 4# plus bass, nice pickerels, etc. over the last couple of years on light tackle and small baits. A lot (not all) of the time I'm catching when others are struggling, especially post spawn to the end of the season. There's a lot of good articles on this site, here's one of the better ones : http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/light_line.html
  23. #2 #1 is closer to my fishing reality (except for the 32 fish day !), so #2 appeals more to me.
  24. "Ya buy a hat like that, I bet ya get a free bowl of soup" - Rodney Dangerfield, from Caddyshack
  25. Pick most any product (doesn't have to be fishing related) and there are only X number of facilities that are capable of producing them. There are way more brands of anti freeze, chewing gum, etc. than the factories that produce them. A lot of name brands are just that, a name. The name, especially an old established one, is a powerful marketing tool. The original creator of the product could be decades out of the picture, but the name lives on because customers are comfortable with it. It's possible that the Lucky Craft brand could be sold off, and the new owners decide to cut costs (corners?) while still selling it under the Lucky Craft name. Happens all of the time. After fishing for a while, you'll figure out what to stay away from. There's plenty of crap out there, but a lot of hidden gems also. My point is that the more educated you are, the better choices you can make. If a .99 cent bag of clearance bin worms catches you fish, you scored an excellent deal. Run back and get more before they're gone. It's only fishing, no one gets hurt. People that buy $20 baits shouldn't worry about people that don't and that works the opposite way also.
