  1. I'm a diesel mechanic with no outboard experience, but I have a suggestion. Sometimes when we suspect a fuel problem we will run the engine out of a remote fuel can. We use a five gallon can. If you can SAFELY secure a separate fuel can to your boat long enough for test purposes you may find your problem. This is a good test to determine if you have a bad tank of fuel. If the fuel is crap, no amount of additive will make it better. I've seen fuel hoses go bad internally also. These can be difficult to diagnose as they look fine from the outside but have swelled on the inside, which restricts fuel flow. Also, especially on the suction (or supply) side of the fuel system, tiny cracks in the fuel hose or leaks at hose clamps will allow air to enter. Both of these conditions will allow an engine to run at idle but cause problems under load. These are things you can try on your own at little or no cost. At the very least, if you have to take it to a mechanic, you can tell him what you did and help him with his diagnosis.
  2. No Hardees? I've been in Cambridge for two weeks on a job. Had to stop in Baltimore first before I came here and must have passed 20 of 'em. No Hardees in Jersey :'( Delaware is as far North that I can find them. They are good though.
  3. "Mooooooooom, dad's blitzed again and won't share the Pop Tarts" :'(
  4. Wow, the hype machine is in overdrive. Let's see here. The majority of individual state LMB and SMB records are decades old. Which means they were caught before the advent of this *ahem* new technology. I bet even a few were caught with old school Eagle Claws, which a lot of people consider to be junk. This reminds me of razor blade commercials where they hype the crap out of basically a sharpened piece of stainless steel and then want you to spend $18.00 for a pack of them. I like a quality hook as much as the next guy but this is just silly
  5. :D right on
  6. 100 hours until an oil change ? I'm a Detroit mechanic. Those old 71 series can easily go 250 hours between changes. I'm sure as a Detroit owner you know how tough the 71's are, especially the naturals vs the turbocharged ones. I hope you ran straight 40 weight oil instead of 15w40 in it!! Yeah, they can be $$$$ to overhaul. The factory has been trying to kill them off for years, but there's still thousands of them out there. Getting parts can be iffy and they're expensive. Won't be long until they're outlawed because of emissions. They already are in certain waterways in the US.
  7. Usually watch it shake my bait out of it's mouth as I whimper :'( That happens occasionally to me with single hook baits. Rarely do they get away when I have a treble hook bait tied on.
  8. Technically the area has a curfew, but they aren't really concerned with fishermen as much as people having out of control bonfires or drinking excessively. As long as they don't see beer cans laying all over the boat and everything else is in order they pretty much leave you be. A lot of cops around here are fishermen and hunters themselves so you end up talking about that with them for a while before they go.
  9. Thats basically the same as my finesse jig mold. I guess i can modify a weedguard pin to the mold to make these. Hmmmm] Do grubs stay on this style head good? I'm fussy about the jigheads I buy. Gotta have a quality hook and equally as important to me is the collar / barb behind the ball. I like a small diameter collar with a well pronounced barb. This (I think) keeps the shape of the bait intact and holds it on better. Here's an example of what I look for in a jighead. This will hold any bait well without deforming the head: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74255_100010006_100000000_100010000_100-10-6
  10. Speaking of flashlights and such......... a few weeks back my buddy and I were night fishing a large sand quarry. We were about 50 yards from the launch when someone started shining a powerful flashlight at us. My buddy yells "Hey jackass, whaddya doing ?" to which said jackass replied "Winslow Twp. police. Bring the boat to the ramp" Uh Oh. Everything turned out ok, a few laughs had by us and the cops and we were back fishing within a few minutes ;D
  11. Is this what you're after ? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_97947_100011003_100000000_100011000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT
  12. I feel your pain, brother. About five weeks ago my buddy and I were fishing a sand wash when I hooked up with what would have been my PB for sure. About twenty feet away from the boat she launched out of the water like a missile. A few head shakes and that's all she wrote. Easily an eight pounder. I guess that puts us in the Ahab club. Now I'm obsessed......... :'( Best of luck to you in your pursuit.
  13. I don't know if you were joking or not, but 1 1/2" to 2" tail sections of any Senko style bait rigged onto a 1/16 oz. jighead are deadly. Under a bobber, straight retrieve, yo yo retrieve, whatever. It works. Don't throw out your torn up stickbaits.
  14. I can sympathize with you. My fishing was curtailed when my daughters were young. You'll be back. It's like a looooong winter. Video games don't cut it for me. P.S. I still do my share of the laundry. She has more than enough laundry to do with two girls in the house. I think it's a law that girls have to change outfits at least twice a day.
  15. Be sure to wear lots of Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles gear. The locals will embrace you....... :
  16. Don't be blinded by today's technology. Those reels were pulling in slobs long before most of the members here were born. It'll hold up just fine. I've yet to have a fish poke his head out of the water and ask me "Whaddya fishin' with ?!", although some have commented on my choice of lure .....
  17. Five pages on how to pee in a boat over on the general forum.....
  18. These are far and away my favorite tube http://*.com/disctube Quality is top notch, no deformed or stuck together tentacles like I've found on other name brand tubes and the price is right. I fish them with 1/8 to 1/4 oz tube jigs with exposed hooks when I can get away with it. These particular tubes have a thick head and a double thick body which makes them perfect for Texas rigging and throwing into cover.
  19. The added bonus is they're mighty tasty.
  20. He's a lot more like his grandfather than many would like to admit.
  21. It can be a very good trip. Lots of critters get washed into the water. If the water is churned up and muddy, stick with the dark green or brown plastics in the shallows.
  22. Yeah, they're a blast for sure. Our lakes here in the Pinelands are LOADED with them. Anything that bends the rod is OK by me. Just be sure to have a good pair of pliers and lots of extra baits....
  23. What would a chair look like if your legs bent the opposite way ?
