  1. I used to get horrendous outbreaks while cleaning up around my property. Calamine is useless, you might as well spread pudding on the affected area. You need a cortisone shot from the doctor. You have to kill it from the inside. The Technu lotion that was mentioned is the only over the counter stuff that even comes close to working. The trick is to use it as soon as possible after contact BEFORE you break out. One last tip - don't burn poison oak or ivy. You don't want to know what happens when the smoke is inhaled.
  2. A 1/100 oz tungsten ball jig with a single pinfeather. It went 114' 7" into the wind with my supertuned Pixy that has 27 abec 9 orange seal bocamatic titanium NASA spec bearings lubed with baby seal oil.
  3. Ever see a dying fish on it's last gasps ? Often it's upside down while it twitches erratically. A popper designed upside down would probably work well. Same for jerkbaits. Just sayin'....
  4. It may have been intentional. Engine manufacturers purposely blow up engines to determine the limits of various components. The parts are then analyzed to see what the root cause of the failure was. This helps them build things better and helps them down the road when warranty claims are made. What makes me think this may have been intentional is the fact they video taped it. Most dyno runs are not taped but rather recorded onto a file, where temperatures, pressures, hp, boost, etc. are saved. I doubt it was a head gasket as the bottom end is what grenaded on this one. The RPM drop before the explosion was likely the rod or main bearings melting down.
  5. This is what engineers call a "catastrophic engine failure". We mechanics call it an "aw **it". For those who don't know, a dynomometer is a device used to place a load on an engine to determine horsepower and torque. It's used to test engines after overhaul to ensure it will perform at it's peak after installation. This is a Mercedes Benz large bore industrial diesel...
  6. Normally, yes, BUT you can leave the split ring on and attach the duo lock to the tow eye of the bait. The split ring will rattle around and make some noise while the bait is moving.
  7. Nonsense. You gotta have the right equipment. Here it is getting cooked up...
  8. I went through the 80's looking like that and I didn't even go to college....
  9. If you were to go back and read Chris's posts over the last few years, one constant theme is his philosophy of doing things different than anyone else. Live lining a nightcrawler on an ultralight rig for trophy bass. Who in their right mind would do such a thing ? The man doesn't even own a baitcaster. One pitfall of the "Information Age" is there is sometimes too much information out there. It's easy to lose your focus. It happened to me over the past few years. This year I started fresh with a minimal tackle approach. I'm back to the few things that have worked for me in the past and it's paying off for me. No disrespect for those who carry large bags with hundreds of baits. It just doesn't work for me.
  10. I'll take the moolah moolah...$$$
  11. You're not the only one. There's a lake in the Poconos that has some of the biggest and meanest 'gills I've ever caught. They will absolutely demolish a Jitterbug and other "bass only" baits. Pound for pound a superior fight to a LMB. Often I'll target them exclusively. I'll be up there the second week of June and get some pics.
  12. "Alot of the tackle shops around here have bulk bags of tubes. Usually 50 pieces per bag. And I pay $15 a bag. They are the same as the BPS flippin tubes" Not around here. Tubes are probably one of the least used baits in my area. And I like it that way...
  13. Cover tube - *** 4" ***. Just about indentical to Yum's Vibra King, which I think has just been discontinued. Great price and the quality is top notch. He also carries a 4" craw tube, which is basically the same thing with pincers attached. Ghoti. just turned me on to Poor Boys tubes. Check them out on TW, they have some amazing colors. Haven't had a chance to fish them yet but I have no doubts about them. Last is the overlooked Strike King Bitsy tube. 2 3/4" long, it rocks when they want something a bit smaller. It also floats, rig one weightless on a fine wire hook and throw it top water. Better hold on to your rod... It can also be floated underwater on a split shot rig.
  14. All trimming the length does is make for a super stiff guard that is harder for the bass's mouth to mash down.
  15. I think the only way to settle the debate would to start with a freshly cleaned and lubed reel with it's stock bearings. Make about 10 or so casts in a field and determine the average length. Then install the 'upgraded' bearings and repeat the test. I'm sure someone somewhere has done this, but I've never seen anything showing this.
  16. I trim with the weed whacker every other cut and use a mulching mower. I refuse to apply fertilizers or other chemicals to my lawn. There's a price to pay for having a golf course lawn. Remember that when your favorite lake looks like pea soup at the end of July. We've been in our house twenty years and my lawn has survived several bad droughts. It's always come back on it's own. Crabgrass and dandelions here and there are not the end of the world, despite what Scott's has to say about it...
  17. Nothing like your first 5 lber. Now go get some more...
  18. Take this for what it's worth, a Jersey guy telling an Arkie how to fish a lake I've never seen. I have a similar situation out here. We have one sand pit in particular that holds big (by our standards) bass. 8 to 9 lb are not uncommon. It's clear, 45 ' to 50' deep in spots and virtually no cover to speak of. It gets a ton of pressure and the skunk lives in there. I have no doubt there's a state record in there (10 14) When I found the structure, I found the bigger girls. That's only part of the equation. I was throwing the usual baits everyone else was throwing with limited success. When I changed over to light tackle and smaller baits that's when things started to pick up for me. I know a lot of guys don't want any parts of light tackle and small baits. They're locked into the "big fish big baits" frame of mind and IMO they're missing out. Open water with no cover is THE place for this kind of fishing. If you hook into a chunk, let her run and play her out. Where is she gonna go ? Two years ago I lost what would have easily been my PB 20' from the boat. She went for a 4' tube rigged on a 1/8 oz tube jig. Nothing fancy about that at all. I've got several 5's already this year on tiny crankbaits. Hardly anyone around here throws tubes and I get laughed at when they see a 2" crankbait tied onto my ultralight rig. They're mentally conditioned that you can't possibly catch decent fish on such a thing. The point is throw something different and don't be scared of light tackle. When everyone is zigging, you should be zagging. Will you catch dinks fishing like this ? Yep. You also will get your share of nice ones. It's a fact the majority of what a bass eats are between 2" to 4"
  19. I have already. For some reason it takes a while. If I go into my control panel it shows the new one. Maybe it takes time for the auto resizer to set it up. It's been that way for all of my avatars in the new forum.
  20. Man, I haven't thrown them in years. 18 pack for $3.49 @ TW. Can't beat that. Back to the basics.
  21. Ahh well...Props to the Bruins. They were clearly the better team throughout the series. You guys have a hell of a goalie in Thomas. Best of luck, we'll be back next year.
  22. This explains the situation....
  23. For me at least, besides making lure changes easier, I prefer tying knots around a single diameter of wire as opposed to a split ring. I have more confidence in the knot.
  24. We have girls. So much for that. This is the fourth time I've cut this year. A lot of rain + cool weather = lots of grass. There will be no fishing for me this weekend. Mothers Day, I'm in the doghouse anyway and I leave for a 3 day job in New York City at 10pm Sunday night.
  25. I hate cutting the lawn
