  2. It's possible, but IMO would be too much weight. 3" is as big as I would go.
  3. Perhaps cutting your stencil out of a coffee can lid ? The plastic is thick enough but still pliable enough to conform to the body of your bait.
  4. You're using logic and common sense, which has no place in the universe of attorneys, judges and juries. Back in 1980, my friend's girlfriend attempted to board a slow moving freight train, resulting in the loss of her legs. Alcohol was a factor. She survived, and her family succesfully sued the railroad. That make any sense to anyone out there ??? :-?
  5. Try this, it's deadly: Rig a 1.5" to 2" piece of a senko style stickbait (preferably the tapered tail end) straight on a 1/16 oz ball jig head. Cast it and reel it in. Yo yo the retrieve, straight retrieve, whatever. It kills crappie, large 'gills and I've gotten quite a few decent sized bass on it. It's a good way to get some more fish out of torn up stick worms that can't be rigged any longer. I do the same with plastic craw trailers that have had the claws bitten off. Yum makes a 2" Vibra King tube, which is a solid body ribbed tube with tentacles. A good bait rigged on a 1/16 oz jighead also. Black/blue is the color that works best for me. Ultralight is a blast, and you will often hook into decent sized bass when they're in the mood for the small stuff..
  6. They have an X Calibur Foxy Trio kit for $19.99. It's a 3/8 oz xt3 suspending twitch bait, an xrk50 tungsten one knocker lipless crank and a 1/4 oz Zell Pop. All are the Foxy Shad color. Not a bad deal for 20 beans. They better get some fish in my boat.....
  7. Any way to check if it is bent. Remove spool, roll on hard flat surface such as a kitchen counter. Anything bent or out of round will show up.
  8. 28 replies and no one went for the Rebel ? :-? I don't care if your popper was hand painted with feathers from an angel's wing, bass only see the underside of it. Besides the lousy stock hooks, I'll stick with the Pop-R. The Skitter Pop is another good one.
  9. Do they sell one with corn in it ? (for the crap, uh I mean carp fisherman...)
  10. To peg a weightless rig, visualize where the eye of the hook is within the worm (or whatever) after it's rigged. Then insert a toothpick through the head of the bait, through the eye of the hook and out the other side of the bait. Then cut the toothpick flush. This keeps the bait from sliding down the hook. To peg a weighted rig, insert the toothpick through the hole in the weight at the desired spot, either right at the head of the bait or any distance down the line. This keeps the weight from sliding on your line. Different techniques call for different weight placement.
  11. Yeah, THAT is a joke. However, I'll sell you some of my secret formula "Fisherman's InvisibleSpray" for only $49.99 a can. It makes anglers invisible to fish : It also shines boats, conditions line, relieves achy joints and cures hangovers !!! Send (lots of) cash to: bilgerat industries industrial park bldg 5 new jersey 18583
  12. Would you prefer poke? No thank you. I like women. :-* So does my buddy's soon to be ex - wife...... :-X
  13. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa I don't get it.
  14. :-?
  15. Why recently any threads mentioning *** get deleted ? Are the current advertisers complaining ? It just seems odd that on a tackle thread we can discuss any number of tackle companies and their products, but not this one. I'm NOT "lighting the fuse" with this topic trying to start a fight, I was just curious, that's all.
  16. As this is my first season with a baitcaster (over 30 years fishing), I also noticed how odd the shorter handle on my STX felt. I just wonder how it will feel when I nail my first 5lb + fish on the new rig.
  17. NO ONE ever learned to fish reading internet articles or watching someone else fish on YouTube. These things are helpful and have their place, but nothing beats time on the water. So grab your rig and go fishing. A lot. And don't obsess on Senkos. I rarely fish stickbaits at all and I get plenty of fish. Throw them something besides a stickbait, you'll be suprised.
  18. As the father of two public educated middle school daughters, here's my observation. There are MANY parents who treat school as a daycare center. Boot the kiddies out the door at 7:30 unfed and unprepared. Let the school handle 'em. Put them into the after school program until 6:00 pm. When they come home, ignore them. Repeat process until the school year ends, the put them in the summer rec program. Awww, shoot, that only goes until the end of July. Come on September..... ...and New Jersey residents wonder why our taxes are through the roof. Someone has to pay for it all. Then the school board says (with a straight face no less) "These programs are the result of grant money, we didn't raise your taxes!" Hmmmm, I wonder where grant money comes from ?
  19. I was at my local Krap Mart Saturday picking up some stuff and checked out their huge : fishing dept. I needed some hooks and they didn't have the size I wanted in Gamakatsu. They had Matzuo hooks so I grabbed a couple of packs of 4/0 ewg's @ $2.59 for a five pack. My buddy and I went out Saturday night and we both rigged up 4" craw tubes. We proceeded to catch about 20 bass between us in a 3 hour period. These hooks performed way beyond my expectations. A flick of the wrist and they were stuck good. None of the fish were beasts, but I don't doubt they wouldn't have any trouble on a large fish. We both had the same hook on all night and they're still sharp. I still like my Owners and Gammies, but I would definitely buy these again.
  20. Actually they perform as well and in some cases better than rods costing much more. That being said, these days there are plenty of rods in the $100 - $150 range that are excellent.
  21. That tube is grease, which goes on the gears only. Bearings get one drop of oil. Be sure to thoroughly clean all of the parts, as even trace amounts of old lube will not be compatible with the new stuff. Acetone will clean the metal parts, use Simple Green and hot water to soak all of the other parts - no non metallic parts in the acetone ! Use a stiff bristle brush with the bristles trimmed to about 1/4" to apply grease to the gears. Use the brush to force the grease into the gear teeth. Don't over grease, the excess will be forced out on the first rotation and end up where it doesn't belong.
  22. On my baitcast and spinning reels, I fill the spools halfway with any old mono, then attach the good stuff with a blood knot and fill the spool within 1/8" There's no sense filling entire spools with good line as you will never get down that far during the course of normal bass fishing. A mono backing (or tape) is a must with braid, or it will spin on the spool. Store your line in a ziplock bag out of the light and it will last a very long time.
  23. I've been fishing for over 30 years and I just got my first baitcaster this past November. Many people fish spinning gear exclusively, and there will always be a place for it. I only bought the baitcaster to expand my arsenal. I will always have a spinning rig on the boat. As far as someone snickering at someone else for using spinning gear as if that makes them a lesser angler somehow, that's not even worth a response. Anyone that would do that has no idea what they're talking about.
  24. I own an Avid and a Falcon Lowrider. The Lowrider is new to me, only three fish so far, they were caught slow moving a craw tube on the bottom. The initial taps were very light but I picked them up easily. The jury is still out. After an entire season I'll have my opinion. A very well made rod IMO. My present Avid is a replacement for one I broke last season. St. Croix replaced it no questions asked in spite of me admitting the rod broke at night, possibly because of braid wrapping around the tip. That alone got them another customer for life. Finally, I have a St. Croix Triumph. It's obviously not an Avid, but I've caught many, many fish with it. A no BS sub - $100 stick. No complaints here.
  25. Just because I wear in aluminum foil helmet to keep the government and aliens from reading my mind does NOT make me a lunatic.......
