  1. From 2004. Out of a kayak no less... http://www.stripersonline.com/surftalk/showthread.php?t=372899 And the grandaddy of them all http://www.stripers247.com/world-record-striped-bass.php As with every record fish, this guy has taken more than his share of lies and abuse over his catch. Even to this day.
  2. ...they sure can fish ;D http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/girl-catches-58-pound-bass/64xditb?q=River+Monster&rel=msn&from=en-us_msnhp&form=msnhed&gt1=42007 Guys have spent decades trying for a fish like this. You can hear rods being snapped across knees all throughout the state
  3. Bring back Hee Haw
  4. Ding Ding Ding....we have a winner
  5. My father was a machinist's mate (fancy talk for aircraft mechanic ;D) in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He never spoke about the war. He died when I was 12, I never got to talk to him about it. I can only imagine some of the stuff he saw. Then again, maybe I couldn't :'(
  6. ...or this guy
  7. We're probably the ghetto of the universe. Aliens warn each other to "Stay away from there"
  8. You'd think Jerry would offer fans 'paper or plastic' when they enter Cowboys Stadium. Paper for those who don't want to be identified and plastic for those who want to kill themselves.
  9. That's a good point. I'm a marine diesel mechanic and I've been on some scary vessels in my time. I've even refused to go on a sea trial in some of them, they've been that bad. On the other hand, aircraft are ridiculously OVER maintained and scrutinized. Get the happy pills and take the trip of a lifetime.
  10. I didn't even mention some of the other nickle/dime stuff that has occurred over the years. The heaviest thing mine ever hauled was a kayak ;D You seem to have had very good luck with yours Jack. Maybe I got the lemon, I don't know. It didn't start to make lemonade until after the warranty expired. I do know that back then my research found mostly positive things about it. Now that time has gone by I see that many others have had similar experiences with theirs. Anyway, here's wishing you another 200,000+
  11. http://automobiles.honda.com/cr-v/exterior-photos.aspx The second transmission failure in 4 months on our '03 Ford Explorer was the last straw > 79,000 miles, owned since new. Air conditioning compressor failed at 65,000, that was good for just under $1,000. Two transmission incidents totaling over $1,000. Rear differential at the beginning of a failure. I'm done. My first new vehicle ever was a '85 Toyota pickup I drove for 14 years and well over 200,000 miles. A clutch was the most expensive thing I put in it. A 2003 Ford Explorer that I maintained religiously is wheezing at 79,000 miles. Pathetic. I was half tempted to let Ford know my feelings but I think they really couldn't care less. So I let my wallet express my feelings. I'm confident about the Honda. They were also great people to deal with. Here's to many years of reliable transportation
  12. How do you suggest I spin the bearings? Is it okay to leave the bearings out to dry for a day after soaking it in Acetone? As was said, you can put them on the tapered end of a pencil and spin them by hand. If you have an air compressor with a blow nozzle attachment, you can dry them by hitting them with short blasts of air AS LONG AS YOU DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO SPIN. Spinning a bearing by blasting it with compressed air is a huge no no. Leaving them to dry overnight will do no harm.
  13. You Floridians are lucky to have grass, pads, reeds etc. I'd be more inclined to throw a 'spoon' horizontally if there was any salad to fish up here. It's straight up vertical jigging suspended fish around here. Tie direct to a Johnson Spoon or use a snap ?
  14. i agree 1000%. quality reels already have quality bearings. cleaning them and a proper lube will be more than dropping in "magic" bearings. JMO Yep. Hey Jai, consider this if you would. BEFORE upgrading those bearings, perhaps you could cast several times in a large open area and take an average measurement of, say, 5 or 6 casts. Then do the same AFTER, (with the same weight of course) and report back. Even better, if you have the time, would be to get your measurements with the stock bearings before and after a thorough clean and lube, then see what the bearing upgrade brings.
  15. Go vote if you haven't already. For the under 18's, make it a priority on your 18th b day. For those who have cast their ballot already, well done. Like the old saying goes, if you didn't vote, don't complain. That is all
  16. Make sure you fill up that spare spool that came with your reel and carry it with you. It doesn't do you any good sitting in the basement. It won't take up that much room in your tackle bag either. Just ditch a couple of those non producing baits to make room
  17. I remember posting about the brutal cold last winter, then bitchin' about the heat this past summer. Some of us are never happy are we ?! > Oh well, I fish up until the bitter end when the ice shows up for the long haul. Got some kayak additions and modifications to do in addition to the normal gear maintenance. Come February I've about had it.

  20. The brushes are spring loaded to maintain tension. Did you have them pulled back out of the way before you tried to install the shaft ?
  21. I remember someone posting here saying you 'trim' the weedguard by reducing the number of strands but NOT by trimming the length. By doing that you actually make it stiffer and possibly interfere with a hookset. This has worked well for me.
  22. D-A-L-L-A-S ;D I'm lovin' it. America's team my rear end. This picture ices the cake: http://www.knowyourdallascowboys.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/2418384.jpg
  23. I was a hard core red box Trilene fan for years. I've since switched to Sufix for my mono and braid. I made the switch to braid (Sufix Performance 10/4) on my ul rig. Even the best mono would give me grief on my spinning reels after a while. The braid is a winner right out of the gate and it only gets better as it breaks in and softens up a bit.
  24. False. I've often wondered why so many spinning reels have deep spools with a lot of line capacity. It costs the manufacturer no more to make shallower spools. A 2500 sized reel should hold no more than about 1100 yds of 8 lb mono, and less would be OK That's a big *** reel
