  1. I've had the same except with a big fat kosher dill pickle in place of the onion. yum.
  2. I don't go to theaters at all anymore. All of the mouth breathing window licking zombies with their big mouths and cell phones ruined that >
  3. Actually it's a remake of a 1972 Charles Bronson movie.
  4. New Jason Statham flick. He was good in the 'Transporter' series. This looks pretty cool : http://www.themechanicmovie.com/
  5. It looks like kite string. I'd stay away from it.
  6. Does daiwa use a tapered pin like abu ? OR you mushroomed the ends of the pin and it won't start in the hole. You may need a jewler's loupe to see these things. I know I do.
  7. Key is line attached. I've used the chain type and the extending pole type and both work just fine. If you put that one on your line and still cant free the lure, what then? Break the line and lose both lure and retriever? Don't know what these cost, but the heaviest dipsey sinker you can find and a cheap snap probably cost alot less and would do the same thing. JMHO. Never had that come up in three years. Its 100%, so far. I was agreeing with you. I was talking about the retriever in the video. As stated, I've use the type you described and had success also. Not so sure about the knocker in the video. If you send it down and it doesn't free the lure, what then?[/quote] That's why they come in packs of two. Send the second knocker down the line to get the first knocker and your bait... : ;D
  8. How so? Are we still talking spinning reels? What advance in spinning reels has occured in the last 20 years that has put so many more fish in the boat that the reels of only 20 years ago should be considered toys... :-? OK...maybe 'toys' was not exactly what I meant. I was referring to the higher bearing counts, better machining tolerances, magnesium construction and bail improvements to name a few. Spinning reels have inherent problems that can be worsened as size decreases. I know there were certain ul reels made decades ago that are still held in high regard, I never owned any of them. Didn't mean to step on any toes, just throwing my $.02 out there
  9. Right on. The reels of 20 years ago were toys compared to today. You still have to dig a little harder to find quality ul rods that are more than 5' long. Finding quality downsize baits takes a bit of searching but they're out there. I know it's a very niche market so I don't blame anyone for the small number of choices out there. This is where the internet really shines.
  10. The comment about the light line Japanese way of finesse fishing made the light bulb above my head click on. I realized it was no fluke that when I got my UL rig a few years back I was very successful with it and, as I tapered off of it, my numbers went down. In a lot of ways, my particular fishing scenario has a lot of similarities with Japan - smaller bodies of water that are high pressured. Trying to utilize Southern huge body of water techniques up here is futile. This is not set in stone as I can throw a frog in pads and weeds up here and have success, but for the most part light tackle is suited well for up here. The internet and sites like this can be a blessing and a curse. There's almost too much information out there and one can be overwhelmed (I know I was) by 'information overload'. I understand where Fish Chris is coming from when he says he goes the opposite way of the crowd. It's not for the sake of being different, it's because he figured out something that works. I guess the bottom line is to keep an open mind and be able to adapt. Don't dismiss a certain technique because no one else around is doing it or someone said "it'll never work"
  11. I don't know yet. All of my baits land on top of the water and stay there
  12. This thread is from last April.. :-?
  13. They must be getting ready for the upcoming spring order of fishing stuff. That's the usual pattern around here. Beware of items on the wrong peg. Check the product description sticker to be sure the item in your hand is the one at the sale price. Often stuff is put back wherever. Been down that road before.
  14. I too have scaled way back. Going through my tackle storage totes in the basement has turned up many baits I had forgotten about that I used to do well with. I got caught up with tying on new stuff too often and not really thinking about what I was doing. I got away from the basics and my fishing suffered for it. This is the first time I'm really focused on what I need to do to be a better fisherman. Clearing out my tacklebox = clearing out my head. I realized fishing is something you can over think too easily and lose your way.
  15. Here's one I got when I was a kid. That's my dad helping me hold it up for the picture.... http://www.mrlurebox.com/pflueger/Perrybassphoto.jpg It was a hell of a fight. The fish drug me through so much brush most of my clothes came off. Got him on a swimbait I whittled that morning before school. After I cut a cord of firewood to take to school. Uphill. Both ways.
  16. Where's that thread about the $1.00 Walmart spinnerbaits ? Let's throw a bottle of Mend-it into the plastics equation....
  17. That was 31 seconds of my life wasted....
  18. 60 degree tube jigs for open water. I came up with an internal weight rig used in conjunction with an EWG hook for when I want weedless and weighted.
  19. No problem. If you have a heat source of 6170* f http://www.tungsten.com/mtstung.html
  20. We've been in our house for about 20 years now. Yesterday I went out to start digging out from the snow to find my next door neighbor had done a sizeable chunk of my property with his snowblower. This is nothing new as I've done the same for him and have cut his grass in the summer while they were away on vacation. We keep an eye on each others property when the other is away, grab their mail, things like that. You can't put a price on something like that. We've had a few flakes here and there on the block over the years but (thank God) I've never come home to find news vans on the street. Do you have good neighbors or are you unfortunate enough to live next to the Mansons ? ;D I couldn't imagine living next to a hellhole, although I realize some do.
  21. Me too. How about potato chips in your sandwich ? yummmm
  22. A man looks in the closet and sees 12 pairs of white shoes. His wife swears they're 12 different shades of white. Go figure :-?
  23. Me and 6 - 7 other guys get a house at Big Bass Lake in the Poconos every June. The house is a rental in a private community. The lake is only a bit over 100 acres, it's probably more like a puddle compared to what a lot of guys here fish. Maximum depth is probably around 15'. It's got a decent stumpfield out in the middle near a small island, lily pads, weedlines, everything that makes a good lake. A majority of the guys are hard core golfers, play 2 rounds a day. I fish 12 hours a day rain or shine. For a small lake, it's awesome. Two years ago I nailed a 6 lb. LM bass on a Jitterbug at 12:30 am. It also has the biggest, meanest bluegill I've ever seen. They'll hit full size topwater baits without hesitation and give you a fight you won't forget. Some are easily over a pound. On light and ultra light tackle it's phenomenal ! There are plenty of other species. My wife's cousin lost a (estimated) 36" pickerel right at the boat. Big yellow perch, big white and black crappie, lmb, pickerel are all in there and plentiful. The only thing that would make it better is smallmouth. I couldn't go last year because of other obligations, but I'll be back for sure this June.
  24. I have 5 freshwater combos and I've been fishing for over 30 years. My wife thinks I have a lot yeah, ok whatever you say dear. That's 5 that I rotate through, not counting what gets retired. My boss swears by Ugly Stiks. He uses them for saltwater where sensitivity really doesn't matter. They gotta be doing something right as long as they've been around.
