  1. quality electronics are key for successful winter bassin... I generally fish rapala ice jigs and really heavy carolina rigs.

  4. inconsiderate fellow anglers. when you're on a point and a troller comes within 20 feet of you, smile, and wave. causes brain hemorrhages every time...

  7. in many lakes in socal the water is gin clear and the fish are really pressured. fluoro seems to be the standard for lots of folks down here, and 6lb test is really common. on tough bites i head down the the dangerous territory of 4lb fluoro, but I do notice a major difference in bites. landing them is another story...

  10. they're a bit over 100 but the dobyns savvy series is worth a look. pay a bit more for a great warranty... crucials arent a bad choice either. find either used and they'll likely be under 100
  11. here in socal i do most of my jig fishing deeper than 25 feet and drag/ small hops. i also might be in the minority cuz i like a heavy rod. my combo is a dx744, td-z 103h, 12lb toray
  12. primarily topwater... but comes in handy for deep water jigs.
  13. I owned a first generation shimano coriolis in the late 80s/ early nineties... a shiny black and it had the flippin switch that some of you were talking about, and true to form that reel crapped out on me in the first couple of months. that reel was supposed to be one of their higher end selections back in the day, but i can guarantee you there was a design defect with that reel. the quintessential clunker... thankfully shimano hasnt had something that bad in a while, but the corsair in the late 90s came pretty close.
  14. the 743 extreme is a great rod for 3/8 and its the only rod if fish for that jig... but a 1/4 i move down to a dobyns champion 702 (not the extreme finesse version). the champion 702 is medium action, but fishes closer to a medium heavy, and I believe its a PERFECT 1/4 jig rod. just my opinion though. for a reel i go with a steez 103sha. pricey but d**n fun to fish...
  15. ive given the McStick several hours on the water... its a decent bait with a nice tight walk to it, but vision 110 it is not. The vision has more of a roll to it. I would say the action is more akin to an ima flit... ive caught fish on em, but i will say that the 110 and flit have caught more fish in comparison. Not really scientific, just my experience. the price is nice, though.
