Not knowing which model reel you have I can only offer a general suggestion. There is a knob on the handle end of the reel which applies tension to the spool. This maybe too tight. For best performance a reel needs to be set up using a combination of brake setting and spool tensioning. If the spool tension is too tight what you described will happen.

I have caught both LMB and SMB in Lake Michigan. The Classic was held here in 2000. Both species were caught but as I recall Woo won with a bag of Smallies.
You know I did try these and thought I had hook up problems. I attributed it to the bend in the hook. These are definitely of good quality so maybe I will have to give them a try again. I might have been slow on the draw that day. :
Thats pretty sound advice.
I have found an exception to this. It is true that you must find the fish. I have experienced bass busting on shad. Both LMB and Stripers in Power Plant Lakes. You will see huge pods of shad just busting the surface. You can throw topwater baits at it and maybe get a few. For some reason without exception a Rattletrap in a Shad pattern will only catch numbers and usually the largest of the bass present. In my mind that is a perfect example of matching the hatch.
You have to be careful with Cabelas on new releases. If ordering on the internet it appears they have items in stock. You place an order and then you get a backorder notice. They did this with the Curado and Citica E. You will find that they will be one of the lastg top get them. Tackle Warehouse will usually be among the first.
I am with you on this one Muddy, as a kid growing up on the Southside of Chicago, I had fishing, played baseball and football. I lost a lot of friends who did not. I thank God everyday. I do suck at baseball and footbal now though,
I never seen this but will have to look out for it anyway. Boy they will not give out mortgage loans and loans to smal businesses to keep them afloat but they still will rack in the consumers on credit cards. GO FIGURE!
