  1. Shane these are nice smallmouths. Not everyone has the opportunity to catch smallies. Certainly not in such adverse conditions regardless of the weight I feel this is a great accomplishment. It is funny I have had guides show me how to take a photo of catches so they appear to look larger. They do this so they can use them for their websites with no claim of weight. Can not blame them they need to make a living. It is obvious that a photo does not represent the true weight, sometimes even a scale, heck I went a whole year one time using a scale that read 6 oz light. In the end I had a better year then I thought. The joy is in the hunt and catch unless you are looking to cash a check. Keep em coming and stay warm.
  2. Yep and the locals are ok too!!! Deb we did not forget about ya all! All you good people were part of the group, a bit too hospitable but I think we can forgive you for that.
  3. For anyone on the bubble please do not miss out. This will be my 3rd. Kentucky Lake was the 1st with about 50 attendees, what a blast. Pickwick last year smaller but good fishing. This has been some of my best time fishing over the last 3 years. Learned a lot and had a good time. I bet we can get up to 50 before it is all said and done. Kentucky Lake is a joy to fish. Like picking fish off the pantry shelf. A Uncle Leoism, ledge fishing at it's best.
  4. Do you have any Fossil Plants in the area that use a lake for cooling water. We have some in our area and the Heron never leave as the water is warm all winter. Lakes closed to fishing for us but not for them. That could be a good reason why he is around. Best indicator that bait fish are in the area (Heron) IMHO and Rick Clunn's.
  5. Much more like a dying shad, I will ahve to check these out. I fish a Power Plant Lake that has a lot of shad as primary forage. Would be good when the bass are busting shad.
  6. Beautiful, Chris!
  7. I did vote for the Dobyns as this is all I have any experience with. Please keep in mind that this will be somewhat subjective as most will not have experience with all of these rods and will have their favorites. Unfortunately it will be very difficult for you to handle all of these rods at a single location but the best experience is one you have for yourself. Be careful on making a selection based on this. Many of rod racks are full of rods collectiing dust. I wish I had half the money back that I spent due to this.
  8. I have found that working a crank in clear water is good mostly for a reaction strike. Unless you can find schooling bass, than multiple hookups are possible. Clear natural colors seems to work the best. If banging the bottom I would assume that this lake could have crayfish as forage dependant upon how much rock. If so I would think a crayfish pattern worked on the bottom would be best. It would seem that a dropshot would be a good choice also based on you description.
  9. Unless you consistently throw a DD22 a 6.3:1 ratio reel will do everything you want to do. A Citica D or E is also a 6:1 ratio. You can but gears for your Citca D to make it a 5:1 ratio if you really feel you need one. Most will throw a DD22 very little, dependent upon the lake you are on. If you use mainly plastics and jigs you would want a higher speed reel to take up slack line, a 7:1 may help, but a 6:1 will do the job. The main thing is to buy what you feel comfortable with and would use. Believe me I have my fair share of rods, reels and lures which I bought because I wanted them, not becuase I use them. Best laid plans will prevail.
  10. Normally higher than a car loan but less than a personal loan. Will be higher for something that is used.
  11. Like this, I suppose it is personal preferance, Got to love America.
  12. Try these jigs. http://yourbobbersdown.com/alljigs.html The Wolfram Jigs are widely used in Europe where small jigs that get down deep excel. I have caught more Perch and Bluegills with these then all other combined.
  13. Yes I agree.
  14. Smiles all around, ya baby!
  15. I see no problem with this. This is why I no longer eat and drink at Hooters the night before a day on the water.
  16. Old news means nothing unless you get your *** down in 2011. : As Da Coach says losers live in the past. >
  17. By the way mine was Jim Croce, Time in a Bottle. I guess I am aging myself.
  18. Been there done that, winter has been too long Kent.

  21. 7 foot Med Power Fast Action will cover a multitude of applications.
  22. Early or Late and even in between. This past fall when the lake temperatures dipped into the 40's a Shaky Head was one of the few techniques that helped me to get a bite.
  23. Yep that is why on the above post I suggested Webster Lake and Barbee Chain due to good management and less meat fisherman. This is where true Musky Hunters in our area fish. Maybe I should have recommended neither.
  24. Way to go Steve, looks like your having warm weather and no wind. gotta love Texas!
